Chapter 213.2

Downstairs, seeing Yu Hanshuang still looking at the bracelet, Cheng Feng suddenly snatched it away and threw it to the ground. “Do you like it? If you do, I’ll buy one for you.”

“What are you going crazy about?” Yu Hanshuang said coldly.

She glanced at the maid nearby, who bent down to pick up the bracelet, but Cheng Feng said, “Don’t pick it up.”

Yu Hanshuang rolled her eyes helplessly and turned to go upstairs, but Cheng Feng grabbed her wrist. “He seems to care about you a lot, even remembering your birthday and sending such expensive gifts.”

“As you said, we’re old classmates.”

“Just old classmates? I think he has other intentions.”

Yu Hanshuang chuckled softly. “So what?”

“You’d better tell him to give up this idea.”

“I’ve told him. Unlike you, I don’t play with ambiguity. I don’t want to give him false hope because we won’t be together. So, there’s no need for you to be so nervous.”

Cheng Feng looked at her, his right hand clenched into a fist. He couldn’t understand how the woman in front of him could be so heartless. She had loved him too, so how could she just let go so easily?

“After all these years, can’t you forgive me?” He looked at Yu Hanshuang, his throat sour. “What more do you want me to do? What can I do for you to forgive me?”

Looking at his pained expression, Yu Hanshuang found it somewhat amusing. “Cheng Feng, nobody asked you to do anything, and you don’t need to put on such a pitiful act. I haven’t made things difficult for you, nor do I plan to divorce you. Weren’t we clear when we got married? You do your thing, I do mine. You enjoy your playboy lifestyle, and I don’t want to talk about love. I forgot about this arrangement for a while, so I reflected on it, but now you’re the one who’s forgotten?”

“A contractual marriage—what forgiveness do you need? Is my forgiveness so important to you? Apparently not, otherwise you wouldn’t have been with other women after I left at that time. I didn’t come home, and you didn’t either. What great parents we are, no wonder Xiao Yu feels like we’ve abandoned him.”

“That’s all in the past!” Cheng Feng said anxiously. “That was nine years ago! I admit I was wrong then, but haven’t I changed since? From when you came back until now, all these years, I haven’t had any other woman besides you!”

“Is that so? How terribly miserable for you, how extraordinary.”

Yu Hanshuang gave him a mocking applause. “Should I send you a banner to hang in your bedroom?”

Cheng Feng felt a sense of defeat in his heart. Looking at Yu Hanshuang, she was still the young, familiar figure, but he seemed unable to get close to her anymore. Yet they had been in love once; she had liked him and would smile at his concern. How could she be so hard-hearted now?

Yu Hanshuang didn’t waste any more time with him and slowly went upstairs.

She sat on the bed, and put the bracelet in her jewelry box, planning to return it to the sender tomorrow.

She didn’t need others’ affection. For most of her life, she had calmly watched one man after another pass through her life, never moved, never interested. The only time was with Cheng Feng after marriage.

But the love from that time no longer existed, and new love had not yet been born.

So, she didn’t need someone whom she only considered a classmate to court her while she was still in a married state.

There was no need at all.

She smiled as she opened the gifts from Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu, then went to the bathroom to take a shower.

The next morning, Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu took a car to school.

Lin An Lan was tired and dozed off on Cheng Yu’s shoulder the whole way, seeming to wake up only when they got out of the car.

Cheng Yu pinched his face. “Why are you so sleepy?”

“I want to sleep in.” Lin An Lan said. “Why isn’t it the weekend yet?”

“Soon, soon. I’ll treat you to dinner this weekend.”

“Another one? We just had one yesterday.”

“Xu Sheng says there’s a new restaurant that opened. Let’s try it together.”

Lin An Lan nodded, chatting and laughing with Cheng Yu as they entered the classroom.

Jiang Xu’s gaze locked onto them the moment they came in, but gradually settled on Cheng Yu.

Is this his son?

The son he raised from childhood, who grew up by his side?

Jiang Xu stared at Cheng Yu but couldn’t see what was so special about him.

What did Cheng Yu have that he didn’t?

Their grades were similar and their appearances comparable, even their ages were the same. So why was Cheng Yu the one who grew up with his father and not him?

Just because he had a mother with a more noble status?

But wasn’t it Cheng Feng who chose to have him with his mother?

Why, why didn’t he want him specifically?

Jiang Xu was jealous and resentful.

He hated his mother for abandoning him, and he hated his father for not being by his side from childhood. At the same time, he also hated Cheng Yu for enjoying the fatherly love that he couldn’t have but deserved.

His gaze was fixed firmly on Cheng Yu until Cheng Yu noticed and looked up, meeting his eyes.

The moment their eyes met, Jiang Xu turned away.

Cheng Yu frowned, not understanding why he had been staring at him, and seemingly with ill intentions.

“What’s wrong?” Lin An Lan asked him.

“Nothing.” Cheng Yu said. “I just felt like Jiang Xu was looking at me, but when I looked up, he turned away.”

“Probably just unconscious.” Lin An Lan said.

Cheng Yu didn’t think much of it and pulled him to their seats.
