Chapter 45.1

The filming went on in an orderly manner. Lin An Lan and Fan Ruiwen both performed very well, but Cheng Yu’s performance was a level better than theirs.

The director felt that he was getting into the scene, that was why every time he was in a scene with Gu Shuyu, he was extraordinarily full of emotion, and on several occasions he’d had to remind Cheng Yu to suppress his feelings, otherwise the emotions in his eyes would have been too contagious.

This was both good and bad. The good thing was that once the actor got into the scene and understood the character better, the production would come out well.

But the bad thing was that it was easy to get into a scene but hard to get out of it. If Cheng Yu couldn’t get out of the scene and fell in love with Lin An Lan who played Gu Shuyu, then wouldn’t he, the director have imperceptibly bent him?

Director Zhang was a conscientious director. In addition to the filming, he spoke to Cheng Yu, telling him that a drama was a drama and a person was a person, and that one could get into the scenes, but one couldn’t take a drama seriously.

“In a couple of days, I’ll change your shooting schedule, so you can take a break and relax from the set.”

He added in his heart, so you stop facing Lin An Lan every day, just like Jing Huan does.

Cheng Yu obviously didn’t feel Director Zhang’s good intentions, he just said, “I don’t have any dramas to film in two days, I have to record a variety show, have you forgotten?”

“Right, right, right,” Director Zhang remembered. “That’s good, you should go out to meet people and change your mood.”

“I’m in a good mood.”

“Then meet more people.” Director Zhang asked, “Are there female celebrities in your variety show?”

“Yes.”

‘That’s good’, Director Zhang thought to himself, ‘he should meet more girls and preferably have a relationship with them or something, so that he didn’t have to worry about Cheng Yu getting into the scene. He was too scared.

However, as soon as Director Zhang let out a sigh of relief, he remembered something and asked, “Wait, is Lin An Lan also going with you to record the variety show?”

“Yes.”

Director Zhang: ……

The director was silent, how come they couldn’t be separated?

He sighed silently and could only pray in his heart that Cheng Yu, who seemed to be very thoughtful, would not be easily influenced by the characters in the drama, and would be able to get out of the scene quickly even if he got into it, and would remain a straight man!

Cheng Yu only thought that Director Zhang was concerned about the physical and mental health of his actors, that was why he was asking him these questions, hence he didn’t think anything of it.

Of course, in a sense, he was right to think so.

He continued to film his scenes as usual, taking each day very seriously.

But as Jing Huan’s feelings for Gu Shuyu deepened, Cheng Yu’s emotions also ebbed and flowed.

His own feelings for Lin An Lan were already very deep, so when combined with Jing Huan’s feelings for Gu Shuyu, the two overlapped, often causing Cheng Yu to feel like Zhuang Zhou dreaming of butterflies and butterflies dreaming of Zhuang Zhou 1So basically this is from an idiom. It means one is never certain whether what one sees is reality or an illusion. It is from a tale in the book Zhuangzi: Once, Zhuang Zhou dreamed he was a butterfly, a butterfly flitting and fluttering about, happy with himself and doing as he pleased. He didn’t know that he was Zhuang Zhou. Suddenly he woke up and there he was, solid and unmistakable Zhuang Zhou. But he didn’t know if he was Zhuang Zhou who had dreamt he was a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming that he was Zhuang Zhou.  Thank you Mika for providing the explanation.

It seemed as if he couldn’t tell who the one in the drama was, himself or Jing Huan.

He looked down at Lin An Lan. Gu Shuyu was asleep, and Jing Huan was sitting next to him, reading a book while peeking at the person on the bed.

Gu Shuyu was on his side, his face flushed as he faced Jing Huan.

He was watching him quietly, unaware that he was dazzled.

He reached out his hand, as if to touch Gu Shuyu’s cheek, but withdrew it hastily when it was about to make contact, curling his fingers up in silence and just staring at him in fascination.

Gu Shuyu’s place in his heart was so special that he didn’t know how to define him, except that he was like the embodiment of all that was good, like a god who was staying among ordinary men.

But the god was too majestic and distant, so Jing Huan preferred to let him be the angel of his heart.

He didn’t dare to touch him and didn’t dare to defile him.

But he couldn’t stop thinking about him and couldn’t stop dreaming of embracing him.

He opened the window and allowed himself to feel the cold wind outside, which made him feel a little better.

The lights outside the window were bright, it was late in the night, and the world had fallen asleep.

He glanced back at Gu Shuyu, at his angel who was sleeping soundly.

He was sleeping on this earth, inside his heart.

The director shouted ‘cut’ and praised, “Very good, Xiao Cheng, your show of emotions just through your eyes is really getting better and better.”

Cheng Yu smiled, his heart heavy with emotion.

Lin An Lan sat up from the bed. He was still wearing Gu Shuyu’s pajamas which was pure white, revealing a pale and slender neck with wrists that looked spotless.

Cheng Yu felt that he was more of an angel than Gu Shuyu.

It was just that he, Cheng Yu, was much more despicable than Jing Huan.

He walked up to Lin An Lan and bent down, causing Lin An Lan to look up at him as he asked, “What’s wrong?”

Cheng Yu wanted to hug him, but there were too many people now, so he just smiled and said softly as he looked at him, “Go and change your clothes, today’s shooting is over.”

Lin An Lan smiled in response and got out of bed, walking towards Yang Wang who was waiting on the side.

Wang Cheng walked to Cheng Yu’s side hurriedly and handed him a bottle of water while telling him about the message he had just received.

Hearing what he had to say, Cheng Yu walked out with him.

The two of them got into the artist’s van and the driver started the car, but as soon as they started to move, Cheng Yu called for a stop.

The driver turned around to look at him, “Cheng Ge, what’s wrong?”

Cheng Yu looked at Lin An Lan’s artist’s van next to his then said to him, “You can go have a cigarette break. When I call you, then you can come back.”

“Alright.” Not asking too many questions, the driver got out of the car.

Wang Cheng looked at Cheng Yu suspiciously, but Cheng Yu didn’t explain, he just said, “In just a moment, go down and keep watch for me, don’t let other people come near.”

“In just a moment?”

“Mhmm.” Cheng Yu leaned back in his seat and looked out the window.

The night was thick, as if ink had been spilled in it, but it was this kind of darkness that could conceal everyone’s thoughts.

Cheng Yu looked at the starlight under the dark night waiting for him not far away.

Instead of changing straight away, Lin An Lan put a windbreaker over his pyjamas as a way of keeping out the cold.

As this was the location of the drama and not a costume room, it wasn’t convenient to change his clothes, so he usually removed his make-up and changed his clothes in the artist’s van as he left the site.

The wind at night was cold, so Lin An Lan wrapped his clothes around him tightly. Yang Wang walking next to him opened his mouth, “Lin Ge, you and Cheng Ge acted really well just now, you guys are awesome.”

“We’re alright.” Lin An Lan said modestly.

“But after tomorrow’s shoot, it’s time to go back to recording .”

“Hmm, I understand.”

It had been more than ten days since the last filming of the variety show, and during that time, the large chat group that the guests had created while they were filming the show still had people talking all the time, and Lin An Lan would occasionally glance at it, so he remembered that someone in the group had said a few days ago that this time’s filming was finally going to be recorded abroad, just like the last season’s.

He had little interest in going abroad, but was more interested in having fun, so he couldn’t help looking forward to it.

The two of them were walking when someone suddenly reached out from the car beside him and took his hand.

Startled, Lin An Lan tried to break free, but then he heard a familiar voice: “Come up.”

It was Cheng Yu’s voice.

Relieved, he got into Cheng Yu’s artist’s van.

Cheng Yu glanced at Wang Cheng, who instantly understood and cooperated by getting out of the car and pulling Yang Wang to the side.

“What are you doing? Does Cheng Ge need something?”

“That’s right, otherwise would he have asked Lin Ge to get into the car? Wait a bit.”

Yang Wang nodded, saying in his heart, ‘Sure enough, it was his Lin Ge who was so refreshing, not neglecting love while working, unlike him who only had work with his girlfriend’s location unknown.

He sighed, feeling really miserable.
