Chapter 99.2

When Hua Rong came to see Cheng Yu, he realized that Cheng Yu was in a much worse shape than he had thought.

It hadn’t been more than a few days since the day they had met in the supermarket, but he seemed lifeless. He was obviously the same person, but he also appeared to be a different person.

“Come on,” Hua Rong placed his hand around his shoulders, “come and have a drink with big brother.”

“I don’t want to go.” Cheng Yu refused.

“Isn’t this just the right mood for you to be in for a drink? Let’s go, let’s go, it’s on me. I’ll ask Xu Sheng to join us.”

Helpless, Cheng Yu could only get into the car with him.

Xu Sheng arrived a little later than the two of them and when he entered the private room, he saw Hua Rong pouring wine for Cheng Yu.

Cheng Yu had a wan expression on his face and when Hua Rong poured, he would drink. If Hua Rong didn’t, he wouldn’t bother to pour wine for himself.

“What’s going on here? “Xu Sheng sat down beside him, “How did the New Year celebration turn you into this? Did you and your dad have a fight?”

“You’re giving his dad too high of a praise.” Hua Rong said to him with a cigarette in his mouth, “His dad fights with him, but that’s only if he’s willing to acknowledge his dad. Does it look like Cheng Yu would acknowledge him?”

Xu Sheng thought about it. He made sense. In all these years, the only time Cheng Yu had taken Cheng Feng seriously was when he was a child and longed for his father’s love.

Then his mother went away and his father continued with his affairs. From then on, Cheng Yu looked at his father as if he were a passer-by on the road, with no thoughts, no expectations, no feelings and no mood swings for him.

To say he’d had a fight with Cheng Feng would indeed be giving Cheng Feng too high of a praise.

“Then what’s wrong with him?”

“Lin An Lan knows the truth and walked away.” Hua Rong answered.

Xu Sheng was surprised, “When did this happen?”

“Just two days ago.”

“Damn!” Xu Sheng turned to look at Cheng Yu hurriedly but saw that he still had the same expression on his face.

After thinking about it for a long time, he could only pat Cheng Yu’s arm and say to him, “My condolences.”

Smiling a little, Cheng Yu nodded.

Xu Sheng instantly became more worried about him.

“What happened? How could he suddenly discover the truth? Was it Jiang Xu who told him? Or was there something else you didn’t pay attention to?”

He asked with sincerity, his words full of disbelief, “You’ve been hiding it from him for a little over half a year, how could it be discovered at this time?”

Yes, Cheng Yu thought, how could it have been discovered at this time?

Because it was originally a lie, and as a lie was always a lie, there would always be a day when it was exposed.

If it wasn’t today, then it would be tomorrow.

There was no escaping it, and nothing short of it.

Pouring himself a glass of wine with his head down, he sipped it in silence.

“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Xu Sheng asked him.

“There’s nothing to say.” Cheng Yu said in response.

Xu Sheng glanced glumly at Hua Rong, who shrugged, “Don’t look at me, there’s nothing I can do. If I could make him talk about it, would I have called you?”

Xu Sheng could only turn his gaze back to Cheng Yu, “Ah Yu, you should talk about it. If you don’t, then aren’t you making us worry ceaselessly?”

“There’s nothing to worry about.” Cheng Yu told him, “Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.”

He poured a glass of wine for Hua Rong and Xu Sheng then handed it to them, “Here, have a drink.”

Looking at him, Xu Sheng could only clink glasses with him helplessly, watching him as he sipped.

Cheng Yu didn’t really want to drink in the first place as he wasn’t a heavy drinker and didn’t have the habit of buying drinks to drown in his sorrows. He could drink but didn’t do it often.

But slowly, after a few bottles, he felt the beauty of alcohol and thought it was really a good thing to have a drink at this time.

He didn’t have the habit of confiding in people, and he hadn’t been good at pouring out his troubles since he was a child.

As a teenager, he couldn’t face Yu Heng who believed in him and say, I’m not as strong as you are inside, I want someone to be strict on me, I want someone to care about me all the time, just like parents do to their children in a normal family.

Now, too, he was still unable to speak of his pain, of his sorrow and despair, to his trusted friend.

He was used to growing up on his own, used to digesting his joys and sorrows within himself.

When he encountered something that made him happy, he could come forward and share it with everyone.

But when it came to sad things, he preferred to bear them alone, to grieve alone.

He didn’t feel the need to speak out. Love was a matter between two people, so neither Hua Rong nor Xu Sheng could help him.

The only person who could help him was Lin An Lan, but Lin An Lan had already withdrawn himself from his world.

So, there was no need for too many people to be involved in this love affair.

He didn’t need to be persuaded or told that there was plenty more fish in the sea. He knew all that. He was just stuck in the mud and unable to break free.

Everyone understood the reasoning, but how many could actually do it?

Pouring more of the wine, he sipped it slowly.

Hua Rong, seeing this, took him by the shoulders and advised him, “Ah Yu, big brother, as someone who has been there before, I would like to say to you that emotional matters cannot be forced. The first time you liked him, you thought he didn’t give you a chance, you thought if you could get in touch and understand each other, then you could definitely become a pair, but now, you tried, the opportunity was given to you, you even got along for a little more than half a year, and you still split up, which proves that you two might really not be suitable for each other.”

“Love isn’t something that can be established by saying that I like you, I like you best. He has to like you as well, it has to be mutual, otherwise how come I don’t see you with someone when there are so many guys and girls who like you?”

“So, you can’t force things like emotions. Maybe you don’t have a destiny with Lin An Lan, so you shouldn’t keep hanging on to him.”
