Chapter 37.1

When Cheng Yu first met Lin An Lan, he only thought he was good-looking and had good grades, so it was no wonder he was the one the girls at school always talked about.

But that was all. Cheng Yu didn’t notice much more.

He only really noticed Lin An Lan from the time he broke into an internet cafe one night.

That day, Cheng Yu was surfing the internet with Xu Sheng and they had just finished playing a round when they heard an argument coming from not far away.

Cheng Yu thought the voices sounded familiar so he looked for the sound and realized it was Lin An Lan and Jiang Xu.

They were in the same class, so it was no wonder their voices sounded familiar.

He saw Jiang Xu sitting on a seat not far away and Lin An Lan standing. It was obvious that one was an Internet addict who was addicted to games and the other was a triple A student who was disciplined.

The good and the bad were clearly distinguishable.

He looked at Jiang Xu and said to him “Come back with me.”

Jiang Xu refused, “I haven’t finished my game yet.”

Lin An Lan reached out and turned off the console “Now you’ve finished playing.”

Jiang Xu looked at the suddenly black display and asked angrily, “What are you doing?

“What are you doing?” Lin An Lan was obviously angry too, “Look at you now, do you know what you’re doing now?!

“It’s none of your business.”

“What did you say?” Lin An Lan said in a cold voice “Jiang Xu, say it again.”

Jiang Xu gritted his teeth as he looked at him, but he couldn’t say anything.

Cheng Yu who was watching from a distance thought it was quite funny.

When Lin An Lan saw that he hadn’t spoken out of turn again, he eased his tone, “Go back.”

“I’m not going back.” Jiang Xu bent down and turned his computer back on.

“Are you just going to keep playing games?” Lin An Lan asked him “Is playing games going to solve the problem?”

“It’s my business.”

“So you don’t need me to care, do you?”

Jiang Xu didn’t answer.

Lin An Lan asked him “You still don’t plan to go back is that right?”

Jiang Xu didn’t say anything.

Lin An Lan nodded and said, “Then have a good time.”

He turned and walked in the direction of the door, never looking back as he left the internet cafe.

Cheng Yu who finished watching a play, sighed with emotion, “Why bother?”

He asked Xu Sheng “If I played games in an internet cafe, would you advise me to go home and study hard?”

Xu Sheng pointed to the computer in front of him, “I’ll tell you in action, let’s have another game.”

Cheng Yu laughed and happily played another game with him.

He felt that Lin An Lan didn’t need to worry because Jiang Xu was right. He didn’t need to worry about him, his parents didn’t even come to the internet cafe to arrest him, Lin An Lan, his friend, didn’t need to worry so much.

But soon, he saw Lin An Lan worrying again.

It happened in a bar not far from the school, but it wasn’t really a bar. It was more of a bar that sold drinks and offered board games, but the layout was made to look like a bar with a bartending gimmick, so it attracted some students from the neighbourhood.

Cheng Yu went there to have fun, but he found Jiang Xu there too.

Jiang Xu was obviously a bit drunk and there was no one around, so when Cheng Yu’s friends saw him, they asked him if he wanted to join them.

Jiang Xu didn’t refuse, so he sat on a couch along with his friends.

Cheng Yu sat at the head of the sofa, mainly for fun, but Jiang Xu drank a lot.

Everyone had all stayed up until one in the morning and got sleepy, so they decided to go to the hotel next door and get a room.

But Jiang Xu didn’t want to, yelling that he wanted to go home.

“Then go”. The others replied as they also didn’t want to him stay.

Jiang Xu staggered to his feet, took two steps and fell back onto the sofa, took out his mobile phone and started to call Lin An Lan.

He was so drunk that when he woke Lin An Lan up as he answered the phone, he only heard him shouting, “I want to go home, I don’t want to go to a hotel, I want to go home.”

Lin An Lan looked at the time and listening to his voice, asked him, “Where are you?”

Jiang Xu gave the address, hung up and leaned back on the sofa.

Someone patted him on the shoulder and said, “Come on, if you want to go home, you have to go out and take a bus.”

Jiang Xu shook his head

“So you’re staying here tonight?”

“Lin An Lan will come to pick me up.” He said vaguely.

Cheng Yu looked up at him, “It’s already one o’clock and he’s still coming to pick you up.”

Jiang Xu nodded.

Cheng Yu wondered “Did you just call him? Why didn’t you call your parents?”

Jiang Xu suddenly seemed to be irritated, and then he burst out and yelled at him “What do you care about me! Do my parents and you know each other? Who are you to talk about them!”

Cheng Yu was speechless.

Cheng Yu’s friend beside him said, “What are you shouting for? Isn’t Cheng Yu asking out of concern? Why shout? Psycho.”

Jiang Xu looked at them and walked shakily to the other side of the sofa.

Seeing this, Cheng Yu’s friend didn’t say anything more and just said, “Let’s go, it’s time to go to bed.”

Cheng Yu however was curious and asked Xu Sheng, “Do you think Lin An Lan will come?”

“It’s late. Lin An Lan must be asleep.”

“Even if he’s not sleeping it doesn’t mean he’ll come. He’s not his father so why does he have to take him home?”

Cheng Yu thought that was about right, but to test his curiosity, he didn’t go to the hotel with his friends, but sat on the sofa and waited to see the final result.

Xu Sheng was so sleepy that he couldn’t even open his eyes, so after he stayed with him for a while, he went to the hotel next door to sleep.

Cheng Yu sat alone and watched Jiang Xu from afar.

At 1:40, he saw Lin An Lan come through the door and walk up to Jiang Xu.

When Jiang Xu saw him, he looked like a stray dog that had seen its master. He was so obedient as he stood up and walked outside with him.

Cheng Yu stood up and approached them.

It was only then that Lin An Lan noticed he was there and gave him a surprised look.

“You came to pick him up?” Cheng Yu asked.

Lin An Lan nodded his head.

“Then you’re really good to him.”

Jiang Xu looked up at him like he was protecting his food and glared at him, “What do you care?”

Cheng Yu smiled a little innocently, “Be careful on your way.”

“Thank you.” Lin An Lan whispered.

He helped Jiang Xu out as the taxi driver was still waiting for him, they got Jiang Xu into the car together.

Cheng Yu who was watching this from afar was inexplicably a little envious.

He took his phone out and looked through his contacts but couldn’t seem to find anyone who could pick him up at this time.

Xu Sheng was drunk and Yu Heng had left the country.

His mother was long gone, his father was as good as dead.

His home didn’t feel like home either.

He put his phone back in his pocket and walked to the hotel next door.

After that day, Cheng Yu found himself sometimes looking at Lin An Lan unconsciously.
