Chapter 186.2

Editor: Jodi

Lin An Lan dreamed of that day more than once afterward. He wanted to go back to that day, to bring someone with him, even if it was just a pretense, so his father could at least leave without any regrets.

He had still been young when he had been in his twenties, and so stuck to his principles, which is why he later began to regret it.

Later, after proposing to Cheng Yu, he dreamed of that day again. But this time, someone was with him. In his dream, he brought Cheng Yu to meet his father, saying, “You can rest easy now. I won’t be alone. Someone will take your place and stay with me.”

His father smiled at him warmly, just as he always had, and touched his face, “That’s good.”

Gasping, Lin An Lan took a deep breath, then returned from his memories. He looked at the cold tombstone in front of him and reached out to touch his father’s name. “I will be very happy in the future.” He whispered. “You don’t have to worry about me anymore. You can rest easy. I won’t be alone.”

The leaves from the trees drifted down slowly, landing at his feet.

And standing up, Lin An Lan took one last look at his adoptive parents, smiling at them.

“I’m leaving now. I’ll come see you again another day.”

Then turning around, he walked step by step down the stairs.

A breeze blew by, and the fallen leaves danced, while the leaves on the treetops rustled, as if saying goodbye, as if giving their blessings.

Lin An Lan walked out of the cemetery, following the sunlight. Cheng Yu was leaning against the car, looking down at his phone.

He walked over, and Cheng Yu, putting his phone away and asked him, “Did you say everything you wanted to say?”

Lin An Lan nodded, then looking at the person in front of him, asked, “Have you ever met my parents?”

Cheng Yu nodded, “I have. They came to one of the parent-teacher meetings in high school.”

At that time, he had been surprised at how old his parents had looked, much older than the other parents in the classroom. However later, he realized that they didn’t just look old—they really were old.

“They seemed like kind people, very gentle.”

Lin An Lan smiled, “They were very gentle.”

“They both had great personalities, so they would have probably liked you a lot.”

“Really?” Cheng Yu was delighted.

Lin An Lan nodded. He actually really wanted to introduce Cheng Yu to his parents, not in the way things were now, with them lying cold beneath tombstones, but alive, with warm smiles, asking him what he wanted to eat today. But in the end, that opportunity had been lost.

If there was a next life, he hoped they could meet earlier, without having to go through hardships or endure long separations, that they could meet the moment after he was born. He wanted to meet his parents, then take Cheng Yu to see them while they were still alive, and introduce him, saying, “This is my boyfriend.”

And his parents would be content and pleased, no longer having any regrets.

Stepping forward, he hugged Cheng Yu, whispering, “You would have liked each other. You have a great personality, and my parents were very kind-hearted. You all would have gotten along well.”

Cheng Yu hugged him back, saying back softly, “I think so too.”

Then he added, “It’s okay. We’ll wait until the next life. In the next life, I’ll meet you sooner, and we’ll go home together.”

“En.”

Lin An Lan hugged him tightly, a slow smile spreading across his face.

Perhaps it was because their wedding was the next day, but that night, neither Lin An Lan nor Cheng Yu could sleep as they lay in bed, feeling more nervous than usual.

The more Cheng Yu thought about it, the more surreal it seemed, and the more he thought, the more unreal it felt. He was actually going to marry Lin An Lan in front of everyone. He wasn’t dreaming, right?

He pinched himself secretly, and he surprisingly didn’t feel any pain!

He was completely shocked!

But then he quickly felt Lin An Lan’s touch—gentle, tentative, and slightly warm. Only then did he relax. If he could feel something, then it wasn’t a dream.

He turned his head and saw Lin An Lan looking at him sideways, his face innocent and pure. “I can’t sleep.”

He turned to face him as well. “Me too.”

Their eyes met, both of them feeling a bit helpless, but they ended up laughing.

Cheng Yu pulled him into his arms, saying softly as he did so, “If we can’t sleep, then let’s stay up and talk.”

“Talk about what?”

“Let’s talk about our school days.” Cheng Yu suggested.

Lin An Lan nodded, and Cheng Yu asked him, “Back in school, was the only impression you had of me that I was handsome?”

“There was more.” Lin An Lan told him. “I also thought that you really wanted to be my friend.”

“Just those two things?”

Lin An Lan thought for a moment, then added, “You were also very smart. You weren’t in the advanced class before, but you still managed to get in, which shows that you’re really smart.”

“Or that maybe I just worked really hard.”

Lin An Lan chuckled softly. “How could that be? There were so many times when you sat in front of me, and whenever I looked up, I’d see you either sleeping or reading comics.”
