Chapter 214.2
Editor: Jodi
Cheng Feng entered the elevator and returned to his office. He asked his assistant to look into Jiang Liying’s current situation. After getting the results, a mocking smile appeared on his face. He knew that woman was still as foolish as ever.
Cheng Feng called her. “Have you forgotten what you said before? Whose child is Jiang Xu? You’d better remember clearly. Otherwise, when the time comes for an elder to bury a younger, don’t cry too much.”
Jiang Liying was startled, immediately remembering how when she brought Jiang Xu to Cheng Feng, he nearly had someone drop him to his death.
“I, I understand.”
“Don’t tell your son things he shouldn’t know. Watch him carefully. Otherwise, if I’m unhappy, do you think you can still be happy?”
Jiang Liying nodded repeatedly. After hanging up Cheng Feng’s call, she immediately contacted Jiang Xu.
Jiang Xu answered the phone, heard Jiang Liying’s voice, and looked at his phone in disbelief. He hadn’t expected her to call him. For so many days, he couldn’t contact her, but now she was contacting him proactively.
“Did you go find Cheng Feng?” Jiang Liying asked.
“Yes, didn’t you say he’s my father and I could go find him?”
“You can’t!” Jiang Liying shouted. “Don’t go find him. I was wrong. I told you wrong. He’s not your father. Don’t go looking for him.”
“Then who is my father?” Jiang Xu asked. “Tell me, who is my father?”
“You don’t have a father!” Jiang Liying cried out in desperation. “No one ever wanted you to be born. It was me, I was wrong to give birth to you. I was wrong!”
Jiang Xu stood there, speechless.
Jiang Liying started crying, then remembered what Cheng Feng had said on the phone. “Come to me. I’ll tell you where I am, and you come over.”
“Now you’re willing to take me back.”
“Xiao Xu, mom has no choice. I can’t bring you with me, or I won’t be able to marry your Uncle Chen.”
“Then why are you asking me to come?”
“Come to me. We won’t live together. Don’t let your Uncle Chen know. Be good and don’t let him discover you, okay?”
As Jiang Xu listened, the words “you should know what ‘secret’ means” echoed in his mind. His birth was a secret, and now his upbringing would be a secret too.
His father wouldn’t acknowledge him, and his mother didn’t want him either.
Jiang Xu suddenly felt his life was a joke. He hung up the phone and wandered the streets alone.
Jiang Liying, afraid Cheng Feng would pursue the matter, flew back that day and asked Jiang Xu to leave.
Jiang Xu asked her, “What difference will it make if I leave? I’ll still be parentless. You won’t live with me either. You only want to be with him now. You don’t want to take care of me at all, do you?”
“But you can’t keep staying here.” Jiang Liying said. “Come with me. As long as you don’t appear in front of your Uncle Chen, don’t let him know you exist, that would be good.”
“Why? Am I a rat in the gutter? So shameful to be seen!”
Jiang Xu angrily rushed out of the house, shaking off Jiang Liying, and hailed a taxi.
He had never felt so angry and helpless, sad and ridiculous as he did today. Sitting in the car, he didn’t even know where to go or whom to find.
But was this his fault?
What had he done wrong?
The ones at fault were his parents, who gave birth to him and then didn’t want him!
Jiang Xu gritted his teeth, hatred rising in his heart. If he couldn’t be happy, then how could his parents be?
His father didn’t want to acknowledge him, all because he had his own family.
Since he wouldn’t let him be happy, he wouldn’t let him be carefree either!
He took out his phone, opened the class group chat, and sent a private verification message to Cheng Yu.
Cheng Yu was playing with his phone when he suddenly saw Jiang Xu wanting to add him. After hesitating for a moment, he accepted the request.
As soon as he accepted, Jiang Xu’s voice call came through.
Cheng Yu was a bit confused. “Hello?”
“Are you happy now?” Jiang Xu said sharply. “Being with your parents, are you happy?”
Cheng Yu frowned. “Jiang Xu?”
“Yes, it’s me. Cheng Yu, do you think the happiness you have now is all real?”
“You call me late at night just to say this?”
“Of course not. I’m here to tell you, my good brother, how sad it is that we met but didn’t know each other. We’re both sons of Cheng Feng. Although we have different mothers, we share the same father’s blood. Don’t you think that’s quite a connection?”
Cheng Yu was stunned. “What did you say?”
“I said, you and I are half-brothers with the same father but different mothers. Cheng Feng has another child besides you. Did you know? You should know now.”
As he spoke, he felt a sharp, almost gleeful pain in his heart, like a blade cutting through flesh. How could he suffer alone? Cheng Yu, who was also Cheng Feng’s son, how could he continue to live in happiness without knowing anything?
In this world, someone had to share his pain. Wasn’t Cheng Feng willing to acknowledge one son but not the other?
Then, he would make sure the people Cheng Feng cared about wouldn’t be at peace either.
“If you want, I can do a DNA paternity test with you. I’m waiting for you anytime.”
After saying this, Jiang Xu didn’t hang up, quite happily waiting for Cheng Yu’s reaction.
He hoped the other would be in pain, would be furious, even hoped he would argue and curse.
But he waited for nothing. All he got was the call ending.
Cheng Yu looked at the person in front of him in surprise. Lin An Lan was holding his phone, staring at him intently.
He had noticed Cheng Yu’s facial expression change halfway through the call with Jiang Xu. And when he moved closer to listen, he heard the line “I can do a DNA paternity test with you. I’m waiting for you anytime.”
Lin An Lan reacted almost instantly, taking his phone and hanging up.
Cheng Yu was stunned for a moment before looking at him and saying, “He said he and I are half-brothers, that he’s Cheng Feng’s illegitimate son.”
Lin An Lan couldn’t believe it. He clearly remembered, when he was in third grade, hiding outside the door, hearing Cheng Feng say with his own mouth that he only had one child, Cheng Yu, and no others.
“That’s impossible.” Lin An Lan said. “He must be lying!”
“If he’s lying, why would he dare to offer to do a paternity test with me?”
Lin An Lan felt a bit helpless. “But…”
He opened his mouth but couldn’t find the words. He knew Cheng Feng had been with other women. What if, at that time, he hadn’t been careful, and the woman had gotten pregnant? That wasn’t impossible.
Cheng Yu was silent for a moment, then turned and walked out.
Lin An Lan quickly followed. He knew where Cheng Yu was going—to Cheng Feng’s study to confront him and find out the truth.
He unconsciously quickened his pace, walked to Cheng Yu’s side, and reached out to hold his hand.
Cheng Yu’s steps faltered, and he turned to look at him, his eyes filled with unconscious sadness.
Lin An Lan gripped his hand tighter and said, “I’ll go with you.”
Cheng Yu quietly looked at him for a long time, then suddenly pulled him close, pressing him into his arms.
Lin An Lan used his other hand that wasn’t holding Cheng Yu’s to encircle his waist and said gently, “It’s alright. It’s definitely not true. Everything will be fine.”
Cheng Yu didn’t say anything, just silently held him tight.
Lin An Lan felt the pressure of his embrace, sensing the desolate, lingering sadness from him.
He leaned against Cheng Yu, his heart full of sympathy.
“It’s okay, everything will be okay.”
Why did Cheng Feng have an affair? He thought to himself. Why would he treat Cheng Yu and his mother this way?
Didn’t he know it would hurt Cheng Yu?
Hadn’t he said he would only have Cheng Yu as his child?
Why would he treat him like this?
Lin An Lan hugged the person in his arms tightly, feeling heartbroken. If only all of this were false.
