Chapter 211.2
Editor: Jodi
Cheng Yu, flustered, straightened up and added, “What’s more important, me or the book?!”
Lin An Lan pinched his cheek hard. “You better give me a good explanation in a few days, or I’ll show you what’s more important!”
Done saying this, he let go and started to stomp off to his bedroom angrily.
Cheng Yu had no choice but to chase after him again, reaching out to grab his hand and coaxing him gently, “Don’t be mad, okay? I’ll definitely give you a reasonable explanation. When have I ever bullied you?”
“You bully me every single day!” Lin An Lan huffed.
“No way, I barely have enough time to be nice to you every day. How could I possibly bully you?”
“Hmph!”
“Aiya, still ‘hmph’-ing? You’re not a little pig, you know.”
“Hmph hmph hmph!” Lin An Lan deliberately wrinkled his nose at him and hummed a few more times.
Cheng Yu thought he was unbearably cute. If he wasn’t still holding a book, he would have reached out and rubbed Lin An Lan’s face. “You’re so cute. An An, are you trying to act adorable?”
“You’re the one acting adorable! Your whole family acts adorable!”
“My whole family? Isn’t that just you?”
Lin An Lan: …
Lin An Lan was so mad that he pinched him again. “You, you’re not allowed to talk.”
Cheng Yu blinked obediently and stopped talking.
Just then, Cheng Xiao came downstairs and saw this scene. He chuckled and said, “Yo, Xiao Yu, you’ve made An An mad again? You’re totally spoiled by him. If you ask me, An An, you should just ignore him and let him sulk by himself.”
Cheng Yu looked at him in shock. “Grandpa! You really are my biological grandpa! How can you actually say something this cruel?!”
Cheng Xiao let out a ‘heh’ and said, “Aren’t I your biological grandpa?”
Lin An Lan suddenly burst into laughter and murmured, “Exactly.”
He turned and walked away, but he hadn’t let go of Cheng Yu’s hand. After taking two steps, he ended up pulling Cheng Yu along with him. So Cheng Yu stopped bothering with his cruel grandpa and focused on coaxing his adorable little brother instead.
A week later, Cheng Yu received a package. However he didn’t open it but handed it to Lin An Lan instead. “You open it.”
“What is it?” Lin An Lan was curious.
“Open it and you’ll find out.”
Hearing this, Lin An Lan took some scissors and opened the package. Inside was the poetry collection he had wanted for a long time.
Lin An Lan looked at Cheng Yu in shock.
Cheng Yu sighed. “It took me forever to find someone willing to sell this book. It’s brand new, still shrink-wrapped. But the seller wasn’t home and could only mail it after they got back. And then dad swooped in and got to it first! I’m so pissed!”
Just thinking about it made Cheng Yu furious. “What the hell does this have to do with him? Why is he butting in and sending gifts?! This was supposed to be my present for you to celebrate your first day of middle school. And now it’s ruined!”
Lin An Lan looked at his indignant expression and felt all warm inside.
“It can still be my school entrance gift. It’s still celebrating me going to middle school, right?”
He took the poetry book out of the box. “I really like it. Thank you, big brother.”
“Really?” Cheng Yu asked. “But you already have one.”
“I still like the one you gave me more.”
“Then you’re not allowed to read the one he gave you. You can only read mine.”
Lin An Lan nodded. “En.”
“But you got mad that day.” Cheng Yu looked at him, exaggerating his grievance. “I was already miserable because he stole my moment, and then you got mad too, thinking I was bullying you!”
How was I supposed to know the reason at the time? Lin An Lan thought to himself. If you don’t say anything, how am I supposed to know you were also getting this book for me?
If it had been anyone else, someone who had taken the book he’d wanted for so long and still refused to give it to him, Lin An Lan probably would’ve fought them on the spot and never spoken to them again.
“I didn’t know.” He said gently. “You didn’t tell me.”
“Now that you know, don’t you think you should make it up to me?” Cheng Yu tilted his head. “Like… compensating me.”
“How do I compensate you?” Lin An Lan asked.
Cheng Yu was easy to appease. He just opened his arms and grinned. “Hug me.”
Lin An Lan laughed immediately and, without hesitation, reached out to hug him.
Cheng Yu wrapped his arms around him too, resting his chin on his shoulder. “So good.”
“Thank you, big brother.”
“You’re welcome.” Cheng Yu said. “Whatever you want, I’ll get it for you. So don’t take things from other people. Just take mine.”
“Okay.” Lin An Lan agreed.
He was really happy. When Cheng Feng had given him the poetry book, he had been happy too, but that was just because he got the book he wanted.
But when Cheng Yu gave him the poetry book, he was happy because it was from Cheng Yu.
Among all his happy moments, as long as Cheng Yu was involved, his happiness would multiply. Because Cheng Yu was his favorite person in this world.
Lin An Lan liked a lot of people—his teachers at the orphanage, Sister Xiao Qiao, his mother, his grandfather, Yu Heng, Yu Wu, and his other little friends. But the one he liked the most was still Cheng Yu, the one who grew up with him, stayed by his side, and always cared for him.
They relied on each other and grew up in this family together. So naturally, they became the most important people in each other’s hearts.
**
With Cheng Yu’s blessing, Lin An Lan finally entered middle school.
Middle school flew by in the blink of an eye. Three years passed in no time, and Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu took their high school entrance exams together, both getting into the best high school in the city.
High school offered dormitory housing. Middle school did too, but Yu Hanshuang hadn’t let them stay in the dorms back then.
Now that they were in high school, Cheng Yu was eager to try living on campus. But the moment he found out the dorms were four-person rooms, he immediately gave up and said, “Forget it. Who needs a dorm? Home is way better.”
“You, An An, plus me and Zhou Nan—wouldn’t that make a perfect four-person room?” Xu Sheng tried to convince him.
Cheng Yu looked at him with disdain. “Why would An An and I live with you guys? Keep dreaming.”
Xu Sheng was speechless and turned to Lin An Lan. “An An, what do you think?”
Lin An Lan didn’t really care. “It’s up to Little flower. I’m fine with anything.”
“Little flower???” Xu Sheng’s head filled with question marks.
He looked at Cheng Yu in confusion. “You? Little flower?”
“Problem?” Cheng Yu was completely shameless. “It’s my nickname.”
Xu Sheng looked at him with disgust. “You’re not a little girl. Why would you call yourself Little flower? And Little flower of all things??!”
Cheng Yu smacked him on the head with his book. “What do you know? ‘Hua’ means tulip. My name is just ‘Yu’. It makes perfect sense!”
“Not even a little bit.” Xu Sheng clutched his head in protest.
“So, you have a problem with the nickname I gave him?” Lin An Lan asked.
Cheng Yu smacked Xu Sheng’s head again. “Relax. He wouldn’t dare.”
Lin An Lan said, “Really? I feel like he has a lot of opinions.”
“You have something to say?” Cheng Yu asked.
Xu Sheng: …
He didn’t dare!
He shook his head silently. “Nope. I think it sounds amazing!”
Cheng Yu spread his hands. “See? I told you.”
Lin An Lan smiled. “That’s good, then.”
