Chapter 223.2

“Nobody is allowed to spread word about today’s matter. Lin An Lan told us because he trusts us, but we can’t just talk about it casually. Otherwise, with his reputation, if we told someone in the morning, by afternoon the whole school would know he likes men. That wouldn’t be good.”

“Yeah, yeah.” The other four nodded.

Zhang Xiaoshuai made a very insightful comment: “Lan Lan liking men is actually a good thing. Think about it, with his qualifications, if he liked women and formed a couple with Cheng Yu, wouldn’t that be too considerate of us? Otherwise, with those two standing there, which girl would even notice us!”

“That’s exactly right. This is great! My brother truly is my brother – so kind-hearted.”

Everyone laughed and let the matter pass. Lin An Lan himself didn’t think much of it either, until the next afternoon when the other roommates hadn’t returned yet, and Zhou Yun quietly sat beside him and asked in a low voice, “Um, how did you and Cheng Yu get together?”

Hearing this, Lin An Lan’s eyes narrowed. “Why are you asking me this?”

“Just curious.” Zhou Yun looked somewhat embarrassed.

Lin An Lan felt that it wasn’t that simple, however he still answered: “He just asked me if I could be his boyfriend, and I agreed.”

“He asked directly?”

“What else?”

Zhou Yun frowned. “Did you two have a good relationship before?”

“Pretty good. We grew up together and have had a good relationship since childhood.”

“No wonder.” Zhou Yun sighed.

Lin An Lan looked at his expression and pondered, “Do you have something you want to tell me?”

Zhou Yun glanced at the tightly closed door, hesitated for a long time, then finally couldn’t hold back and said in a low voice, “I really like Lin Sen from the physics department.”

Lin An Lan picked up the freshly bought cut cantaloupe and handed a piece to Zhou Yun. “Here, take your time explaining.”

Zhou Yun took the melon and sighed again.

However, he had indeed been holding this in for too long. Everyone around him were heterosexuals, and he was secretly in love, so every day he had to chew on these feelings alone. Therefore, after discovering last night that Lin An Lan also liked men and had even achieved a successful relationship, he couldn’t restrain himself from seeking him out to confide.

Sure enough, his good brother was as gentle as he had imagined.

“I’ve liked him since high school. He was our class monitor then, a good person and handsome too. I don’t know when it started, but my feelings for him became less than pure. But we were always just ordinary classmates, so I was too embarrassed to tell him. Sigh, what do you think I should do? Should I confess to him, or just continue with this secret crush?”

Lin An Lan silently ate a bite of melon. “I think if you really like him, you should confess. Otherwise, you’ll always have regrets. But before confessing, you need to do some preparation and be ready for rejection. After all, he doesn’t know you like him, and he might not be able to give you a response.”

Zhou Yun nodded. “I know, that’s why I’m scared.”

“Then you can hesitate a bit more.” Lin An Lan said. “You’re only a freshman anyway, you have plenty of time. Think it through properly, then make your decision. As long as you don’t regret it yourself, that’s what matters.”

“But I’m also afraid that if I don’t confess, what if he gets together with someone else?”

“So that’s also one of the preparations you need to make. If you confess, you risk being rejected. If you don’t confess, you risk him getting together with someone else. Both options have risks – it just depends which one you’re more inclined toward.”

Zhou Yun ate a bite of cantaloupe feeling depressed. It was quite sweet, but it couldn’t sweeten his heart.

Lin An Lan watched him and patted his shoulder. “Good luck.”

That evening when going to the library, Lin An Lan asked Cheng Yu to help him find out about this Lin Sen person.

“Why are you asking about him?” Cheng Yu was puzzled. “What did he do to you?”

“It’s my classmate. My classmate is interested in him. Since you have wide connections, help me see if he’s dated anyone before, what kind of person he is, and whether he’s worth my classmate pursuing.”

“Alright then.” Cheng Yu didn’t really care since it wasn’t Lin An Lan doing the pursuing, so it didn’t matter to him.

He quickly got information through connections. “He’s okay, decent character. But apparently he had a girlfriend before. I didn’t ask for details, but you should let your classmate know what to expect.”

“Okay.”

Lin An Lan sent the information he had gathered to Zhou Yun: [Key point – he apparently had a girlfriend before.]

The next day, Zhou Yun returned to the dorm in the evening before Lin An Lan went to the library. The other roommates hadn’t returned yet, and Zhou Yun’s eyes were a bit red. Lin An Lan felt that he could probably guess the result.

“He said he doesn’t like men. Not that he doesn’t like me specifically, but that he doesn’t like men.” Zhou Yun said in a low voice.

Lin An Lan rubbed his head. “So it’s not that you’re not good enough, but that his orientation doesn’t match yours.”

Zhou Yun felt quite upset, sitting in his chair blinking his eyes.

Lin An Lan sent a message to Cheng Yu and for once didn’t go to the library, staying in the dorm to accompany his roommate instead.

“I feel so awful.” Zhou Yun said.

Lin An Lan reached out and put his arm around his shoulder, patting it gently. “It really is something to feel awful about. You’re already very strong for not crying. But it’s okay, you’ll meet someone more suitable for you in the future.”

Zhou Yun said nothing and silently leaned against him.

Lin An Lan looked at him and thought that love really wasn’t easy.

He was the lucky type who had met Cheng Yu early, and Cheng Yu had also fallen for him early. But more people, like Zhou Yun, might not necessarily meet someone on this path who both liked them and whom they liked in return.

However, fortunately they were all still young and would have countless opportunities to meet people and have expectations.

“Someone is definitely waiting for you somewhere else.” Lin An Lan said softly. “He’s just walking a bit slowly, so you haven’t met him yet. But you will meet him eventually.”

“Yeah.” Zhou Yun responded, thinking to himself: I hope so.

After this incident, Zhou Yun obviously became closer to Lin An Lan. Although everyone had gotten along well before, it was visible to the naked eye that after learning Zhou Yun’s secret, Zhou Yun considered Lin An Lan one of his own people.

However, he had only considered him “one of his own” for a few days when he discovered that Lin An Lan was preparing to move out.

“Are you planning to live with Cheng Yu?” He asked.

Lin An Lan nodded. “After Cheng Yu treats you all to dinner in a couple of days, and I treat his roommates to dinner, we’ll move out. If anything comes up, just let me know in advance.”

“Alright.” Zhou Yun felt a bit sad. “It’s just that with you gone, I’ll be the only non-straight guy left again.”

Lin An Lan patted his shoulder. “You can do it.”

“I’ll try my best.”

Zhou Yun felt he could change his name to Zhou Qiangqiang (Zhou Strong)!
