“Next chapter waiting? Get it now for 12 coins (that’s 15¢)!”
“Xiao Wu, this is for you.” Lin An Lan handed Yu Wu the chocolate that Cheng Feng had bought for them a few days ago. “Be good and sit here. I’ll sit with your big brother Xiao Yu for a bit first.”
Yu Wu took the chocolate and nodded obediently. “Thank you, big brother.”
“You’re welcome.”
As soon as Lin An Lan finished speaking, he felt his hand being squeezed again. He looked up to see Cheng Yu with a face full of dissatisfaction. “What about mine?”
Lin An Lan: …
“Don’t you already have yours?”
Cheng Feng had bought them each a box of chocolates. Did he really need to give him another one?
“I don’t have it now.” Cheng Yu acted spoiled.
Lin An Lan: …
Left with no choice, he pulled out another piece and handed it to him.
“You’re not going to feed me?” Cheng Yu pushed his luck.
“Why don’t I just eat it for you instead?” Lin An Lan shot back.
Cheng Yu grinned. “That works too. As long as I get to watch you eat, I’m happy.”
Lin An Lan: …
Feeling helpless, he unwrapped the chocolate and brought it to Cheng Yu’s mouth. “Here, eat.”
Yu Wu let out an exaggerated “Ew!” and mocked, “Shame on you! You’re such a big boy, yet you still need big brother An An to feed you? Are you a baby?”
Cheng Yu turned to look at her. “You’re jealous.”
Yu Wu snorted. “What’s there to be jealous of? I’m not jealous at all!”
Yet, as she said this, she immediately handed her own chocolate to her big brother and said sweetly, “Big brother, feed me.”
Yu Heng couldn’t help but laugh as he glanced at Cheng Yu. “Is this how you set an example as a big brother?”
Cheng Yu tilted his chin up proudly. “Of course.”
Yu Heng looked at his smug expression, like a little peacock showing off its feathers, and couldn’t help but chuckle. He didn’t say anything else and simply fed his sister her chocolate quietly.
Yu Han Shuang and her big brother watched the scene unfold and felt at ease.
“How have you been feeling lately? Are you okay?” Big brother Yu asked with concern.
Back when she had found out about Cheng Feng’s affair, Yu Hanshuang had been in a terrible emotional state, which had severely impacted her health. Fortunately, it hadn’t lasted long, and the illness had been detected early, so she was able to recover.
She had plenty of money, and her family was wealthy as well. As long as her condition wasn’t beyond saving, everything could be fixed.
Looking back, she felt relieved that she hadn’t let herself stay trapped in those emotions for too long. Otherwise, she would have been in a much worse place now.
Thinking of this, she glanced through the rearview mirror at Lin An Lan, who was sitting in the back seat sharing chocolates with Cheng Yu.
The two of them had always been like this. Whether it was food, clothes, or anything else, if one had something, the other would too.
She had never imagined that Cheng Yu would get along with someone this well, but she was also glad that he had someone like Lin An Lan by his side.
Lin An Lan’s love for Cheng Yu was no less than that of any member of their family.
It was because he cared for Cheng Yu so much that he had fought for his rights, crying as he dragged her out of her grief.
In this world, if there was anything that could make a woman overcome her heartbreak, it was a mother’s responsibility.
She found it fascinating. Lin An Lan had only been in their home for six years, yet it felt as if he had belonged there since birth.
When he was first brought back, Cheng Xiao and Cheng Feng’s attitude toward him had been lukewarm—not cold, but not particularly warm either. But now, they both adored him.
Cheng Xiao loved teasing him, while Cheng Feng treated him like his precious little treasure.
She had no idea how he did it, but in just a few short years, he had become an irreplaceable part of their family.
She smiled, thinking that this must be Lin An Lan’s charm—he was just the kind of kid that people couldn’t help but like.
“I’m doing okay. Still taking my medicine. The doctor said as long as I take it on time, rest well, and don’t overwork myself, I’ll be fine.”
“That’s good.” Big brother Yu was relieved.
The group had a carefree vacation for half a month before heading back home leisurely.
Cheng Feng came to pick them up, but Yu Hanshuang still ignored him. On the other hand, Lin An Lan, ever thoughtful, brought him a few souvenirs.
Cheng Feng looked at the gifts in Lin An Lan’s hands, then at his own son, who carried nothing for him, and sighed. He felt more and more that this younger son was reliable—more like his real son than his actual son.
That night, he called Lin An Lan over specifically. “Did your mother miss me while I was away?”
Lin An Lan shook his head. “It doesn’t seem like it.”
“Not even a little?”
Lin An Lan nodded.
Cheng Feng sighed. “Your mother is so heartless.”
You were the one who cheated first!
Lin An Lan felt he was being overly dramatic. “So, Dad, you’ll just have to keep trying.”
Cheng Feng nodded, then handed him a book. “Didn’t you want this poetry collection? I found it for you.”
Lin An Lan’s eyes lit up. This poetry collection was obscure, very niche, and had been out of print for a long time. He had been searching for it for ages, but even second-hand copies were hard to come by. Yet, Cheng Feng had found it.
“Thank you, Dad.”
“You’re welcome.” Cheng Feng ruffled his hair. “Liking books is a good thing. Study hard, and when you grow up, I’ll send you abroad to study.”
“Okay, thank you, Dad.”
“No need to thank me. We’re family, no need for formalities.”
Lin An Lan, holding the book, left the room feeling satisfied.
Cheng Yu was waiting for him not far from the door. And seeing his bright expression, asked him curiously, “Why do you look so happy?”
“An unexpected gift.” Lin An Lan raised the poetry collection.
Cheng Yu glanced at it and was shocked. “This one?!”
“Surprised, right?” Lin An Lan was surprised himself. “I never thought he’d remember that I wanted this book and even went out of his way to find it for me.”
He had only mentioned it once while borrowing books from Cheng Feng’s study, yet Cheng Feng had remembered.
Feeling delighted, Lin An Lan decided to go easy on him tonight. He would complain about him in his heart for the time being.
But Cheng Yu, fuming, snatched the book. “I’m confiscating this.”
“Why?” Lin An Lan was confused. “I finally got my hands on it!”
“Just because.” Cheng Yu huffed and started walking toward his room with the book.
Lin An Lan immediately grabbed his arm. “Give it back.”
“Nope.”
Lin An Lan stepped in front of him. “Why?”
Cheng Yu hesitated, then stiffened his back and said, “You’ll find out in a few days.”
“A few days?!”
“Yes, just a few days.”
Lin An Lan: …
His cheeks puffed up in frustration.
Feeling guilty, Cheng Yu didn’t dare poke his puffed cheeks and muttered, “It’s just a few days.”
Lin An Lan narrowed his eyes. “How many days?”
“A week?”
“A week?!” Lin An Lan was appalled.
