When Yu Hanshuang said this, she turned around and looked at Cheng Feng, “You’re his father, you should have taken good care of him, but you didn’t.”

Cheng Feng tried to argue, “I was just in a bad mood recently.”

“Bad mood? I thought you were having such a great time fooling around with women that you’d be overjoyed.”

“Xiao Shuang, I…”

Yu Hanshuang raised a hand to cut him off. “No need to explain. I’m just stating the facts.”

“I’ve figured it out. Before, I was asking for too much. You and I never had a relationship built on love, so expecting you to be loyal to me was unrealistic and unfair to you. From now on, I won’t demand that anymore. Let’s just maintain a good working relationship. As for everything else, as long as Xiao Yu doesn’t find out, I won’t make a fuss.”

“You’re obviously still mad.” Cheng Feng stepped closer.

Yu Hanshuang ignored him, walked to a door, and pushed it open. “From now on, I’ll be staying in this room. Your bedroom is still yours, I won’t go in. So I’d appreciate it if you didn’t step into mine either.”

“What are you doing?” Cheng Feng was baffled. “You’re back home, and you still want to live separately?”

“It’s not that I want to live separately. I just think you’re dirty. Women tend to be much cleaner than men. If you don’t mind your own filth, that’s your problem, but I do, so don’t touch me.”

She looked at Cheng Feng, her expression calm. “I just hope you remember one thing. You can play around however you like, it’s your life. But if you bring another child into this world outside of our family, then don’t blame me for not showing mercy. The only reason I’m standing here talking to you right now isn’t because I love you or because I can’t leave you—it’s because we have shared interests and a son. So don’t jeopardize either of those. Otherwise, the consequences won’t be something you’ll want to see.”

Then she smiled at him. “Now, you can leave.”

After saying this, she walked into the room and shut the door.

She leaned against the door, silently and motionlessly. A long while passed before she finally let out a slow breath.

Cheng Feng stood outside the door, wanting to say something but not knowing how.

It was as if he had gone back to the very first time they met through an arranged marriage, when she had been beautiful, gentle, and yet so different from other women.

She had said, “I can marry you. We have mutual interests, and I don’t want to waste time on love. So being with you isn’t a bad choice.”

She had reached out her hand and said, “Let’s work well together.”

Back then, they had purely intended to cooperate.

He had been a playboy, arrogant and carefree, uninterested in love, just wanting someone who was a match for him. Meanwhile, Yu Hanshuang had met countless outstanding young men, yet her heart had remained unmoved.

So they had chosen to walk this path together—an arranged marriage based on practicality.

However neither of them had expected that, after marriage, feelings would develop. Yu Hanshuang had fallen for him. And he… had fallen for her too.

But while he could love her, he couldn’t be loyal to her. A man like him was never meant to be a good husband.

Sighing silently, he returned to his own bedroom.

That night, Cheng Yu and Lin An Lan slept in Yu Hanshuang’s room together.

Cheng Yu asked her, “Mommy, are you not sleeping with Daddy anymore?”

Yu Hanshuang nodded. “Mommy will sleep alone now, or with you and An An.”

“You and Daddy still haven’t made up?” Cheng Yu looked worried.

“We’ve already made up.” Yu Hanshuang smiled. “It’s just that when adults make up, it’s different from how kids do, so baby, you don’t have to worry about it.”

She hugged him and kissed him. “Don’t worry, baby. Your daddy and I will be fine. We’ll always be together, okay?”

Hearing this, Cheng Yu was finally a little reassured.

But Lin An Lan couldn’t help thinking about the blood Yu Hanshuang had coughed up this morning. He wondered in his heart, did daddy know?

If he knew, would he and Mommy really make up?

With that thought, he decided to find a chance to tell Cheng Feng about it.

When Cheng Feng heard what he said, he was shocked. “Are you serious?”

Lin An Lan nodded. “I saw it with my own eyes. Daddy, can you stop arguing with Mommy? Her health isn’t good. Can you take better care of her?”

Cheng Feng really hadn’t expected her condition to be this bad.

He had always known that Yu Hanshuang’s health wasn’t great, but over the years, she had never had any major issues, so he hadn’t taken it seriously. Now that Lin An Lan brought it up, he couldn’t help but feel worried.

“I got it. Thank you, An An. If something like this happens again, make sure you tell me right away.”

Lin An Lan nodded, then asked, “Will you treat Mommy better from now on?”

“I will.” Cheng Feng smiled.

Lin An Lan didn’t say anything. He actually wanted to ask, will you stop seeing other women?

But he couldn’t. He couldn’t let Cheng Feng know that he had overheard their conversation, so he just nodded and walked away slowly.

Standing up, Cheng Feng went to find Yu Hanshuang, but she ignored him. She was busy with her own things and didn’t feel like entertaining him.

“An An said you coughed up blood.” Cheng Feng walked up to her. “What’s going on with your health? You’re coming to the hospital with me tomorrow.”

“There’s no need. I know my own condition. I’m not dying. You don’t have to worry.”

“What kind of nonsense are you saying?!” Cheng Feng snapped. “What do you mean you’re not dying? Do you even care about your own body?!”

Yu Hanshuang looked at him with mild amusement. “Why are you so worked up? Acting like you care so much. Wouldn’t you be happy if I died? That way, you could come and go as you please, completely free.”

“Yu Hanshuang! Is that what you think of me? You think I want you to die?!”

Cheng Feng gritted his teeth in anger. “I never thought you were holding me back, and I never wanted you to leave. I—”

Yu Hanshuang chuckled lightly. “Of course, you never felt restricted, because I never tried to restrict you. As for other women, that’s impossible. As long as my family stands strong, even if I die, you’ll never be able to marry someone else. So don’t waste your time dreaming about it.”

“No matter how much you love her, if I’m alive, she can’t marry you. If I’m dead, she still won’t be able to marry you.”

She said it so lightly, but Cheng Feng only felt a chill run down his spine. “So, in your eyes, this is all there is between us?”

“Let’s not waste time talking about useless things.” Yu Hanshuang didn’t want to argue. “There’s nothing left between us except shared interests. Whether I live or die doesn’t matter to you. As long as my family remains standing, your family won’t suffer any losses.”

Cheng Feng looked at her, but all he could see was her quiet, lowered face as she focused on the documents in front of her. And for the first time, he felt that she was a stranger to him. It was as if, after all these years, they had gone back to how they were when they first met—back when she had smiled at him so beautifully, only to turn away the next second and smile just as warmly at someone else.

“Is there really nothing left between us except shared interests?”

“What else could there be?”

“You know I love you.”

“That’s unfortunate, because I don’t need it.” Yu Hanshuang finally looked up at him. “I remember now—when I first married you, it was because I thought all men were boring. None of them ever made my heart race, so I had no interest in love. I just wanted to put an end to all the meaningless matchmaking and live my life peacefully.”

“But you fell in love with me.” Cheng Feng stood in front of her. “You had feelings for me.”

“And then I woke up.” She was calm. “Did you really think that just because I liked you for a moment, I would love you forever? In families like ours, love like that doesn’t exist. And even if it did, it wouldn’t be between us.”

“Now get out. I have work to finish and I want to go to bed soon.”

Cheng Feng looked at her for a long time, then finally turned and walked out.

But he didn’t go back to his bedroom. He left the house, seeming both angry and unwilling to accept it.
