Chapter 205.2

Editor: Jodi

When Cheng Feng got a call from Cheng Yu saying his mom was sick, asking him to come back, he rushed home almost immediately, traveling overnight.

Cheng Yu hadn’t gone to bed. He waited with Lin An Lan, holding Cheng Feng’s hand as he asked, “Mommy’s been coughing for so long. Daddy, she’ll be okay, right?”

“She’ll be fine.” Cheng Feng reassured him.

Cheng Yu nodded slightly, then leaned closer to sniff him. And in a soft voice, said, “Daddy, you smell so nice.”

Cheng Feng’s steps faltered for a moment, but he quickly replied in the most natural tone, “Daddy put on some cologne today. I had a business meeting and needed to cater to their tastes.”

Cheng Yu didn’t really understand what “cater to their tastes” meant, but he didn’t care. He had just mentioned it casually, without any deeper meaning.

Lin An Lan leaned in quietly to take a sniff. It was a light, elegant scent, but for some reason, it struck him as odd.

It wasn’t until Cheng Feng went to change clothes that he remembered. Mommy’s clothes used to have that same scent too.

But Daddy hadn’t been with Mommy these past few days?

Did Daddy and Mommy use the same perfume? That didn’t seem right. Mommy always said, men have their perfumes, and women have theirs.

Mommy’s must be a woman’s perfume, right? So, was the business partner Daddy met with a woman?

But…

Lin An Lan didn’t know why, but he felt uneasy. He couldn’t quite put it into words. If he were older, maybe he could describe what he was feeling, but he was still too young, too clueless about relationships. All he knew was that he couldn’t tell Mommy about something like this.

Cheng Feng changed his clothes and went to the bedroom he shared with Yu Hanshuang.

Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu followed him. Cheng Yu ran in excitedly, hugging Yu Hanshuang while saying, “Daddy’s back!”

Yu Hanshuang glanced at Cheng Feng with no emotion, then lowered her gaze to look at her son.

She stroked Cheng Yu’s head gently, acting as if Cheng Feng wasn’t even in the room.

Cheng Yu looked at her in confusion, then turned to Cheng Feng. “Why aren’t you two talking?”

He blinked, his bright eyes full of puzzlement.

Cheng Feng stepped closer to Yu Hanshuang and asked, “What’s going on? Have you seen a doctor?”

“I have.” Yu Hanshuang said softly. “It’s nothing.”

“I’ll go with you tomorrow—”

“No need.” Yu Hanshuang cut him off. “You can focus on your work. In a few days, I’ll move back to my place to rest for a while. During that time, Cheng Yu will be your responsibility.”

Cheng Feng was stunned. “Your place? Why? Can’t you rest here?”

“I want to rest alone for a while.” Yu Hanshuang said, looking up at him, her tone firm. “You can take care of Cheng Yu, right?”

Cheng Feng pressed his lips together and stayed silent for a moment before finally saying, “Xiao Yu, you and An An go outside. Daddy needs to talk to Mommy.”

Cheng Yu looked at them, sensing the tension between them. “Can’t I listen?”

“When adults talk, kids shouldn’t listen.”

Cheng Feng turned to Lin An Lan and said gently, “An An, take your big brother back to read. I’ll come bathe you both later.”

Nodding, Lin An Lan took Cheng Yu’s hand. “Big brother, let’s go.”

And seeing this, Cheng Yu had no choice but to follow him out.

Leaving Yu Hanshuang’s room reluctantly, he asked as he held Lin An Lan’s hand, “Don’t you think Daddy and Mommy seem like they’re fighting?”

Lin An Lan’s heart skipped a beat as he remembered what he’d overheard that day. He shook his head hurriedly. “No, of course not.”

“How come I feel like they’re fighting? No, I have to go listen to what they’re saying.”

And saying this, he turned to go back, but Lin An Lan grabbed him, stopping him in his tracks. “Eavesdropping is bad. Our teacher said it’s wrong.”

“I just want to see if Daddy and Mommy are fighting. Don’t you want to know?”

“No matter what, it’s still wrong.”

“It’s fine.” Cheng Yu tried to convince him. “Our teacher won’t find out.”

Lin An Lan blocked him again. “But then we wouldn’t be good kids, and mommy said we have to be good kids.”

“Fine, I’ll go, and you don’t have to. How about that?”

Lin An Lan kept shaking his head. “Big brother has to be a good kid too.”

“Ughhh!” Cheng Yu groaned. “An An, just let me go listen!”

Opening his arms, Lin An Lan hugged him tightly, holding him in place. “Big brother, I’m hungry. Let’s go downstairs and eat something, okay? I’m sooo hungry.”

And unable to win against him, Cheng Yu sighed. “Fine.”

He patted Lin An Lan’s stomach. “You little silly pig.”

Lin An Lan was right now focused on stopping him, worried he’d overhear something he shouldn’t, so he didn’t even care about being called a silly pig. He just whined softly, “I want little piggy buns.”

“A silly pig eating little piggies.” Cheng Yu laughed. “All pigs.”

Lin An Lan got mad and pinched his waist. “You’re the little silly pig! Pig, pig, pig!”

Cheng Yu burst out laughing, completely forgetting about listening in on their parents’ conversation.

And taking advantage of the moment, Lin An Lan pulled him downstairs and asked the kitchen auntie to heat up some little piggy buns for them.

Cheng Yu watched him eat, then, feeling playful, grabbed a bun, broke it apart, and fed it to Lin An Lan.

He asked, “An An, are you worried that I’ll be upset if I hear Daddy and Mommy fighting?”

Lin An Lan looked up at him, a bit surprised.

Bringing the bun to his mouth, Cheng Yu said softly, “I don’t want to hear them fight either, but I want to help them make up. An An, how do you think I can help them?”

Lin An Lan didn’t know.

If he knew, he would’ve done it already.

Sighing, Cheng Yu asked, “Are you really hungry? If not, don’t force yourself to eat.”

Lin An Lan wasn’t actually hungry at first, but after a couple of bites, he started craving more.

“A little bit.” He said in reply.

Cheng Yu fed him the rest of the bun, bite by bite.

Then he wiped his hands, looked at Lin An Lan who was now drinking water after finishing the bun, and said gently, “An An, you’re so good.”

Hearing this, Lin An Lan put his cup down and asked, “So, are you still going to listen?”

“I won’t.” Cheng Yu said. “If you don’t want me to, then I won’t go.”

When he said that, Lin An Lan once again felt like Cheng Yu was the best big brother in the world.

After thinking for a moment, he stretched his hand out to Cheng Yu and said softly, “Here, you can squeeze it.”

If he let him squeeze his hand, maybe he’d feel a little happier.

He hoped he could feel a little happier.
