Chapter 205.1

Editor: Jodi

Cheng Feng turned to look at Yu Hanshuang, “I’m sorry. I didn’t handle things well. I’ve let you down.”

His voice was gentle, but he knew it was useless, because Yu Hanshuang wasn’t looking for an apology. If she was, she would’ve forgiven him a long time ago.

And sure enough, she just looked at him coldly, not saying a word.

Just as he’d expected.

Cheng Xiao spoke softly, “Xiaoshuang, for Xiao Yu’s sake, can’t you forgive him? This is for the child, isn’t it? You know what Xiao Yu represents, don’t you?”

Of course, Yu Hanshuang knew. If she didn’t understand what Cheng Yu represented, if she wasn’t aware that her marriage to Cheng Feng was a business alliance built on collaboration, not love, she wouldn’t still be here.

But the more she understood, the more it hurt.

When she married Cheng Feng, she never planned to fall in love with him. But she did, only to wake up from the dream and realize that he was someone she should never have loved.

Who would fall for a philanderer?

Before their marriage, Yu Hanshuang had thought this way. Yet she still fell for him.

It was pathetic—pitiful and tragic.

“I know.” Yu Hanshuang said softly. “I’ll head back now.”

However Cheng Feng chased after her and stopped her at the door. “You don’t need to avoid me like this. Just come home on time. I’m leaving for a business trip tomorrow and will be gone for a while.”

He sighed and said, “Xiaoshuang, if you’re upset, you can tell me, vent it out. Don’t act like this. A cold war won’t solve anything.”

Yu Hanshuang looked up at him for a long time but didn’t say anything.

Of course, she knew that a cold war wouldn’t solve anything. But she couldn’t divorce him either. The Cheng and Yu families’ collaboration had grown too intertwined, and a divorce now would be too awkward for both sides.

And then there was Cheng Yu. If she and Cheng Feng didn’t divorce, Cheng Yu would remain the most honored child of both families, the future heir of the Cheng family, able to live proudly. But if they divorced, Cheng Yu’s position would become awkward. He wouldn’t inherit the Yu family, nor could he inherit the Cheng family. Everything he was born with would vanish.

Their marriage was built on interests, not emotions. What’s more these interests were written clearly in black and white, leaving no room for feelings. So what right did she have to let her emotions take over now?

“I understand.” She said softly.

However seeing her still so cold and distant, Cheng Feng placed his hands on her shoulders.

Yu Hanshuang didn’t push him away. Cheng Feng looked at her and said gently, “Don’t just say you understand. Of course, I know you understand. What I want is for you to tell me how we can fix this. What can I do to make you forgive me?”

Yu Hanshuang found his words laughable. Did he really not know what he needed to do?

He just didn’t want to do it.

Cheng Feng was such a clever man, someone who knew exactly how to tug at a woman’s heartstrings, so how could he possibly not know what it would take to really make her feel better?

He just didn’t want to do it. Which was why he hoped she’d be the one to compromise.

Looking at the man’s gentle expression, for the first time, she saw the coldness and cruelty hidden beneath his tenderness.

The softer he seemed, the crueler he really was—because the only person he loved was himself.

All his gentleness was just a fake mask, and yet she had fallen for it, fallen for him.

“I don’t want you involved with any other woman again.” Yu Hanshuang said bluntly.

Cheng Feng froze for a moment, looking a little troubled.

“You can’t do it.” Yu Hanshuang said, her voice calm and cool. “So what’s the point of asking me these questions?”

She pulled his hand away and walked back inside.

Cheng Feng watched her, hesitant. He took a few steps after her but then stopped in the end, not catching up.

He just stood there and let out a quiet sigh.

As Cheng Feng had said, he went on his business trip, so Yu Hanshuang stopped deliberately coming home late, but her heart was still weighed down, leaving her unable to shake her worries.

Her big brother from the Yu family asked her, “Did something happen recently? You seem so listless.”

Yu Hanshuang shook her head and said, “No.”

“Is it about Cheng Feng?” He asked, looking at his sister. “You didn’t fall for him, did you?”

“Of course not.” Yu Hanshuang replied softly.

“That’s good.” Her brother sighed. “You know what kind of person he is, so don’t waste your feelings on him. Just focus on Xiao Yu.”

Yu Hanshuang nodded but didn’t say anything.

Before their marriage, her parents and brother had been against it, but she thought it was fine, because it had seemed like a good idea to her.

Back then, she was constantly being set up with eligible men from other families, which she found annoying. She didn’t think she needed to date or fall in love with anyone.

Then Cheng Feng appeared. When they met, he was handsome, charming, and considerate. His only flaw was his notorious reputation as a playboy.

However she didn’t mind. She wasn’t looking for love anyway, so she thought she might as well enjoy his warmth. He was her type, what’s more their families were a good match, so she agreed to his proposal for marriage.

Who would’ve thought? Before the wedding, she was so clear-headed, but after, she became so completely confused.

She didn’t want her parents or brother to worry, so she kept everything to herself, quietly burying it all inside.

She couldn’t bring herself to talk about it with her family, nor did she want to share her feelings with anyone else. She kept everything bottled up, and as the pain in her heart grew deeper, her already fragile body became even weaker.

Cheng Yu was worried. He couldn’t understand why his mom had suddenly fallen ill.

As Yu Hanshuang lay there getting an IV drip, she told him, “It’s nothing, don’t worry.”

Cheng Yu held her hand, his eyes brimming with tears. Yu Hanshuang gently scolded him, “Boys shouldn’t cry. Besides, Mommy’s fine, really.”

Cheng Yu nodded and forced his tears back.

Lin An Lan watched, feeling heartbroken, but he didn’t dare cry either.

After comforting them, Yu Hanshuang sent them away and took a nap herself.

When she woke up, she saw a photo sent by the private investigator she’d hired. In the photo, Cheng Feng had his arm around a young girl, probably in her early twenties. The girl was dressed sweetly, looking innocent and delicate, leaning obediently into Cheng Feng’s embrace as she kissed him.

It was a picture-perfect scene, but to Yu Hanshuang, it was painful to look at.

Yu Hanshuang put her phone down, closed her eyes, and lay quietly on the bed.

Tears slid from the corners of her eyes, soaking into the pillow. She thought to herself, she was really something else. Why did she ever fall for him?

She felt so miserable.

Her whole being was consumed by the pain.

She never should have fallen for someone like him.
