Chapter 202.2
Editor: Jodi
Watching them, Xu Sheng thought about bringing his own little brother to school too.
But when he got home and saw his cousin, who was in the middle of wrecking the house, he realized that not all little brothers were the same. His cousin wasn’t a cute, doll-like little brother with fair skin, rosy lips, and big eyes. Instead, he was a mischievous little troublemaker!
Looking at his broken toy car, Xu Sheng almost burst into tears. “Why is he still at our house? When is he going home?!”
When Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu saw Xu Sheng again, they found him looking utterly devastated as he pulled out his cookies.
“Here, you can have them.” He said to Lin An Lan. “I’m not giving them to my little brother!”
Lin An Lan was confused. “Why?”
Xu Sheng was furious. “He’s not cute at all, he doesn’t behave, and he doesn’t listen to me! He even broke my toy car!”
Xu Sheng was too upset. “I’m not giving him any cookies, let alone feeding him!”
Lin An Lan understood. Sure enough, as a little brother, one had to be obedient and well-behaved. Otherwise, your big brother might not give you yummy snacks and might even give them to someone else’s little brother instead.
Cheng Yu smirked proudly. “See? My little brother is better, isn’t he?”
Xu Sheng nodded sadly. “Yeah, so here, take them. You can give them to little brother An An.”
“I already asked my mom to buy some.” Cheng Yu said as he pulled out the exact same cookies. “I’ve got my own~”
Xu Sheng asked him, “Then can I help you feed your little brother?”
“Of course not.”
Cheng Yu took Xu Sheng’s cookies. “Leave the cookies, but you don’t need to stay.”
Xu Sheng sighed, slumping onto the desk, feeling like he was a total failure as a big brother.
Lin An Lan rested his head on his hand, warning himself silently: if you’re not a good little brother, your big brother might not only give the good snacks to someone else, but also try to feed them to others. And yet, other people’s big brothers might not even allow that.
That was kind of pitiful.
His big brother might like to pinch him, but he was still a good brother. So, he decided he wouldn’t let his big brother become pitiful.
He had to be a bit more obedient.
He sighed, deciding resolutely to be a well-behaved little brother.

Yu Hanshuang watched the two of them go everywhere together, doing everything as a pair, and found it quite amusing. After observing them for a few days, she realized that Cheng Yu was actually doing a decent job as a big brother. He took good care of Lin An Lan, teaching him how to play piano and draw, buying him things, carrying his schoolbag, and even tying his shoelaces. She was quite satisfied—Cheng Yu was proving to be a very responsible big brother.
Cheng Feng and Cheng Xiao felt the same way, so the three adults simply watched the two kids play together without interfering. Gradually, Lin An Lan got used to living in the Cheng family.
Even though it was different from his previous home, he had a very good big brother here. His big brother treated him well, so he really liked his big brother too.
And just like that, Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu grew up together until they reached third grade.
By third grade, Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu had become the most well-known students in their grade. They were good-looking, excelled in their studies, and had a great relationship. They could be considered the teachers’ favorites.
But despite being a favorite, Cheng Yu hadn’t been happy lately because he felt like his mother wasn’t happy.
Lin An Lan lay on the desk, watching him. He had also noticed that their mom wasn’t happy recently, and neither was their dad. Lin An Lan couldn’t figure out what was going on and could only hope that Cheng Yu wouldn’t join them in feeling unhappy.
“Do you want a cookie?” He asked Cheng Yu.
Cheng Yu shook his head.
“Cake?”
Cheng Yu shook his head again.
“Chips?”
Cheng Yu turned to look at him. “Are you hungry?”
Lin An Lan shook his head. “I brought these today. If you want any, I’ll give them to you.”
“I don’t want any. You eat them.” Cheng Yu said, patting his head and giving him a smile.
Seeing him smile, Lin An Lan finally let out a sigh of relief.
He opened the bag of cookies and offered, “Big brother, let me feed you.”
Cheng Yu, seeing that Lin An Lan rarely offered to feed him, didn’t refuse. And as he let Lin An Lan feed him, he asked, “Do you think Mom’s been unhappy lately?”
Lin An Lan nodded, fed him a cookie, waited for him to take a bite, and then took a bite himself.
“But when I asked Mom what was wrong, she said it was nothing.” Cheng Yu told him.
Lin An Lan didn’t know how to respond to that.
“Then I’ll ask Mom when we get home.”
