Chapter 196.2
Editor: Jodi
Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu didn’t rush to leave after lunch. Instead, they settled in with the kids and decided to stay the night at the Cheng family’s home.
And as it turned out, Cheng Lin would still be sharing a room with Lin Cheng. Lin Cheng had changed into his white pajamas and was just about to start telling his little brother a story when Cheng Lin suddenly grabbed his hand and dragged him into their dads’ room.
“Can we sleep with you guys tonight? Please, Daddy?”
Lin An Lan thought about it for a moment, “Okay.”
With that, Cheng Lin cheered and ran straight to the bed, while Lin Cheng, with a softer smile on his face, sat down next to him and began looking around the room curiously.
“This is my and your daddy’s room.” Cheng Yu explained with a chuckle, patting Lin Cheng’s head. “And that picture over there? That’s our wedding picture.”
Lin Cheng looked at the large framed picture, where his two dads stood facing each other, smiling warmly. He tilted his head thoughtfully, the idea settling in his mind: he had two dads.
He didn’t quite understand yet why there was no mom in their family, just two dads, but he liked his dads—both of them. So having two, was even better.
“Did you see your room?” Lin An Lan asked him with a gentle look. “I remember your grandpa set one up for you.”
Lin Cheng nodded. “Yes, I saw it. But my little brother wanted me to stay in his room.”
Then, realizing that they were now in their dads’ room, he added, “And now he wants us to stay here.”
“That’s because I want sleep with Daddy.” Cheng Lin said, cuddling up to Lin An Lan with a little pout. “Daddy hasn’t slept with me in sooo long.”
Then he snuggled into Lin An Lan’s lap, wriggling his little body to get comfortable. “Please, Daddy? Let’s sleep together tonight—with big brother too.”
Lin An Lan laughed, ruffling his hair. “Didn’t I already say yes? Yes, yes, we’ll all sleep together, with your big brother too.”
“Hooray for Daddy!” Cheng Lin gave him a big, smacking kiss on the cheek and clung to him tightly.
Lin An Lan felt that he was really a cute treasure, a playful, little mischievous elf.
And watching this scene, Lin Cheng couldn’t help feeling a hint of envy, wanting to give Daddy a kiss too but feeling too shy.
However with children, emotions were always written right in their eyes, hence Lin An Lan was able to read his thoughts as clearly as if he’d spoken them aloud. So smiling, he asked, “Doesn’t Xiao Qi want to give Daddy a kiss too? Your little brother has already given me a kiss.”
Lin Cheng leaned in immediately, a bit flustered and bashful but filled with joy, and planted a kiss on Lin An Lan’s other cheek.
Cheng Lin said without feeling shy, “Big brother, kiss me too! You’ve not kissed me yet!”
Lin Cheng, always patient, gave his little brother a sweet peck on the cheek.
And right on cue, Cheng Lin turned around and, returning the favor, kissed him back.
Cheng Yu watched the flurry of kisses, amused, but then pretended to pout. “Hey, how come nobody’s giving me a kiss? Is it because I haven’t kissed Daddy yet? Alright, I’ll just have to kiss him too.”
Lin An Lan: “???”
Then without missing a beat, he pulled Lin An Lan close and planted a kiss on his cheek—then added another, just for good measure.
Lin An Lan: “…..”
He narrowed his eyes at him, feeling that he really never missed any opportunity.
And the kids, bless their innocence, took it at face value and thought they must have accidentally ignored their other dad and made him sad.
So the two of them rushed over to Cheng Yu, each kissing a cheek. Then Cheng Lin hugged his waist tightly, declaring sweetly, “Daddy is the best!”
“Oh, so now I’m the best, huh?” Cheng Yu teased him, raising an eyebrow. “Does that mean your Daddy isn’t the best anymore~?”
“You are both the best!” Cheng Lin declared with a serious little nod, grabbing a hand in each of his small ones, proving he was a quick learner in the art of diplomacy.
Lin Cheng nodded seriously beside him, adding a little “Mm-hm” cooperatively.
Laughing, Lin An Lan pulled the two of them into his arms.
The four of them stayed up talking and laughing until the two little ones finally grew drowsy. Only then did Lin An Lan dim the lights, his gaze softening as he watched their sleeping faces.
Then looking up, he caught Cheng Yu’s eye across the bed. Cheng Yu was also gazing at the children tenderly, his expression gentle.
And sensing Lin An Lan’s gaze, he lifted his head and met his eyes, a quiet smile spreading across his face.
“I was planning on us having a night to ourselves, just the two of us, but these two little rascals got in the way.”
“It can’t be helped. We’re not just husbands now, we’re dads too.”
Cheng Yu chuckled, propping himself up on one elbow as he leaned a little closer. “Still, the children are asleep now, and there are….. certain things a couple can do, just the two of us.”
Lin An Lan raised an eyebrow.
Cheng Yu pressed a kiss to his lips, tender and lingering, drawing him deeper with each gentle touch.
While Lin An Lan’s hand slipped up to his neck, returning the kiss, savoring the peaceful joy of the quiet moment.
A cool night breeze stirred outside, rustling the curtains by the window.
Cheng Yu looked at Lin An Lan, his eyes sparkling softly like starlight.
“Let’s get some sleep.” He whispered.
“En.” Lin An Lan let his hand fall away as he kissed him again. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
They stayed a couple more days at the Cheng family’s old mansion before going back home.
On the ride, Lin Cheng felt a bit carsick, so Lin An Lan got them to pull over, then walked hand in hand with Lin Cheng to help him feel better.
He peeled open a piece of candy, tucked it into Lin Cheng’s mouth, then asked him softly, “Are you feeling okay now?”
Lin Cheng nodded, and only then did Lin An Lan relax. He opened another candy and popped it into Cheng Yu’s mouth.
Cheng Lin waved his little hand, chirping, “I want one too! I want candy too!”
So Lin An Lan handed him one too, then decided he might as well have one himself.
They strolled down the shaded path, where they occasionally spotted birds and butterflies, or a stray cat or dog. And every time, Cheng Lin would wave enthusiastically, greeting each one like an old friend.
And as they walked, their home came into view in the distance, then Cheng Yu suddenly suggested, “How about we play a little game?”
“What kind of game?” Lin An Lan asked, supporting him.
“Rock-paper-scissors race. Rock means ten steps, scissors means two steps, and paper means five steps. Let’s see who gets home first!”
“Sounds good to me.”
They explained the rules to the kids, who quickly picked it up, and then the game began.
Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu made sure to let the kids win a few rounds first, and once they had a bit of a head start, they picked up their own pace slowly, keeping themselves just close enough to keep up, but far enough to let the kids lead.
In the end, the two little ones beat them to the front door, causing them to cheer in delight.
Cheng Lin spun around, throwing his arms up at Cheng Yu. “Daddy, carry me!”
Scooping him up, Cheng Yu said gently, “Daddy can’t carry you, so how about a nice hug instead?”
Cheng Lin didn’t mind a bit, wrapping his little arms around him. “Okay.”
Lin An Lan lifted Lin Cheng in his arms as well, “Then Daddy will hug you.”
Lin Cheng nestled in comfortably, wrapping his arms around his dad’s neck with a sweet smile.
“Let’s go.” Cheng Yu glanced at Lin An Lan.
Then with one arm holding Cheng Lin, he wrapped his other arm around Lin An Lan’s shoulders.
Lin An Lan glanced at Cheng Yu’s profile, and seeing the sunlight framing his face, smiled softly as they went home together.
The sun started setting behind them, casting their shadows long across the ground. And slowly, their shadows blended together, making them look like one single, ordinary yet extraordinary family.
And this— was happiness, Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu’s happiness.
