Chapter 195.2

Editor: Jodi

When Cheng Yu finished his work and returned to the bedroom, he found Lin An Lan leaning against the bed, reading a book.

He leaned over to take a look—it was a parenting guide.

“Weren’t you the one who used to say that these books were useless? That buying them was a waste of money?” Cheng Yu asked him.

It was his first time being a dad, and he wanted to do the best he could for his child, so once Cheng Lin had grown a bit, he’d bought one of these parenting guides to keep up with the psychological changes children went through.

However Lin An Lan had thought books like this were pretty useless. “Will it really help? I just think that as long as parents give children proper guidance and plenty of love, they will grow up healthy and happy.”

“Who knows? After all, we’ve never been dads before.” Cheng Yu had replied.

Lin An Lan nodded but still hadn’t bothered to read the book—until today, when he finally picked it up.

“Well, now that we have it, we might as well take a look. Maybe there’s something in here worth learning from.” Lin An Lan told him.

“Have you found anything yet?”

“I’m still reading. But……”

He put the book down, looking at Cheng Yu. “I think Xiao Qi and Xiao Lin get along pretty well.”

“So do I.”

“They’re a good balance—one of them’s outgoing, while the other’s more reserved; one is active, while the other is calm. They can balance each other out.”

“Exactly.”

Lin An Lan leaned against him. “I used to worry a lot, wondering if the two of them might need some time to adjust to each other, but it’s going even smoother than I expected.”

“That’s true.” Cheng Yu admitted. He’d had the same worry. “But thankfully, they’re both such sweet-natured kids, and both of them have a lot of kindness in their hearts.”

“It’s so wonderful. Now we’re a family of four—completely complete!”

“Are you happy?” Cheng Yu asked him.

Lin An Lan nodded. “I am.”

Cheng Yu watched him with a smile. “As long as you’re happy, that’s all that matters.”

Lin An Lan hooked his arm around his neck, sighing, “Back then, I never would have dreamed I’d be living the life I am now.”

“What kind of life did you picture back then?”

“Oh, just a very ordinary one.” Lin An Lan told him. “I didn’t think much of romance back then and didn’t care much for anything else either. I thought I’d just act, work hard, and if I ended up staying single forever, so be it. It didn’t matter, since I didn’t have any real hopes for romance or marriage.”

“That’s where we’re different.” Cheng Yu replied. “I’ve always longed for love and marriage with you. I just didn’t dare dream of it back then.”

Lin An Lan moved closer to him with a smile. “If I’d known earlier that you liked me, that you were so wonderful and that we’d fit so well together, I’m sure I’d have longed for love and marriage with you, too.”

“I actually used to dream of having a family again, but I didn’t have much ability to love, so even though I wanted it, I couldn’t go out and seek it. All I could do was lower my expectations, to make myself need it a little less.”

“But luckily, I still found you.”

Lin An Lan gave him a kiss. “That’s why I’m so happy now, so fulfilled. Everything I wanted, I have.”

Cheng Yu hugged him, smiling. “Me too.”

Everything he’d ever wanted, he now had—love, family, his ideal life. It was all there.

“I’m really happy too.” He added.

The two of them gazed at each other, saw their reflections in each other’s eyes, and felt the deep, lasting bond they shared.

Lin Cheng stayed with the family for a week and gradually grew used to the little home made up of Lin An Lan, Cheng Yu, and Cheng Lin.

He was still a bit reserved, however thanks to Cheng Lin’s enthusiasm, he became more talkative, even reading bedtime stories to Cheng Lin sometimes.

And when Lin An Lan heard him reading bedtime stories to Cheng Lin, he made a point to praise him.

Lin Cheng felt a bit shy about it— his stories were very simple, just ones his teacher at the orphanage had taught them to read while learning pinyin.

However Cheng Lin was genuinely impressed. “Wow, big brother, you know so many characters. I don’t know any of these.”

“You’re still young. You’ll know them one day.”

“You teach me! If you teach me, I’ll learn them now.” Cheng Lin told him excitedly.

So Lin Cheng had no choice but to pick up his little booklet and start helping Cheng Lin learn to read characters.

And watching them interact, Lin An Lan’s heart was filled with comfort. He felt that this had to be the most ordinary yet precious bond between brothers.

In the future, they’d be able to grow alongside each other, to be each other’s support and strength, just like Cheng Yu and Yu Heng.

Feeling assured, Lin An Lan finally felt ready to bring Lin Cheng to the Cheng family‘s old mansion.

Cheng Xiao and Cheng Feng had heard they were coming and so were already waiting.

After so many years, Cheng Lin had grown up, Lin An Lan and Cheng Yu had matured, and Cheng Feng and Cheng Xiao had also aged. Especially Cheng Xiao. Although he still appeared spirited, the fierceness of his youth was gone— he now looked like a leopard that had lost its teeth.

Elderly people often had a strong fondness for children, and Cheng Xiao and Cheng Feng were no exception.

Sometimes Cheng Feng would even look at Cheng Lin and wonder how he, in his younger days, could have hurt Cheng Yu’s gentle and loving heart.

He supposed he must have loved Cheng Yu, and he did indeed care for him. So why had he disappointed him so much back then?

He was now past the age of desiring beauty. Even though he was still handsome and charming, and still had people drawn to him, he no longer wanted to waste his energy on them.

Time and age had shifted his priorities. He’d shed his past frivolities and tried instead to repair his relationship with his son. Cheng Yu, in turn, had softened toward him, and they had reached a delicate yet genuine father-son connection.

Cheng Feng’s affection extended to Cheng Lin, the child he loved simply because he loved his father.

“I’m back!” Cheng Lin rushed in, darting over to Cheng Feng. “Grandpa, I’ve come to see you! And Great Grandpa too—where’s Great Grandpa?”

He looked around. “I brought my big brother to meet the two of you! You haven’t met him yet, right? My big brother is amazing! He knows so many words!”

Lin Cheng, who was following Lin An Lan through the door couldn’t help but blush when he heard this. Today, his little brother was even praising him in front of their dad—no, this time it was not just dad and daddy, but Grandpa as well….. and, wait, Great Grandpa?

He was a little confused. Which one was Great Grandpa? How come he hadn’t seen him?
