Chapter 207.1

Editor: Jodi

The next day, Cheng Feng went to Yu Hanshuang’s apartment, but she didn’t see him. She just sat at home, looking at the flowers on the balcony, a book resting on her lap, her whole being calm and quiet.

Cheng Feng called her a few times, but she didn’t pick up, so he left.

And so, their separation began. But Yu Hanshuang didn’t feel as relieved as she had imagined. She was still downcast, still keeping tabs on Cheng Feng from time to time, yet every time she did, she reminded herself to forget about him.

Cheng Feng was angry, so he no longer bothered to restrain his natural flirtatiousness. There were even nights when he didn’t come home, spending them with other women instead.

He held their young, beautiful bodies, indulging in pleasure, but the happier he was outside, the angrier he felt when he returned home to an empty bedroom.

As time passed, he started staying out more and more.

Cheng Yu hadn’t expected that within just a month, their family dinner table would be left with only him, Lin An Lan, and their grandpa.

He ate his meals in silence, then went back to his room and quietly did his homework.

Lin An Lan stayed with him, holding out his hand for Cheng Yu to squeeze every day.

Cheng Yu looked at him with a helpless smile, gave his hand a light squeeze out of habit, but he didn’t feel any better.

He asked, “An An, do you think Dad and Mom will get a divorce?”

“No, they won’t.” Lin An Lan said.

But Cheng Yu felt otherwise. Somehow, he just knew they would. He said, “If they do get divorced, An An, would you go with Dad or Mom?”

Lin An Lan shook his head in panic. This wasn’t something he had ever considered, and he didn’t want to. “No, that won’t happen. It won’t.”

“Stay with me.” Cheng Yu said gently. “I’ll always protect you.”

Lin An Lan nodded. Of course, he would stay with Cheng Yu. In this family, the only thing that couldn’t be separated was the two of them.

Cheng Yu took his hand, pulled him into a hug, and patted his head. “Don’t worry. No matter if Dad and Mom don’t want me, I’ll always want you. I’ll grow up and stay by your side.”

“Dad and Mom won’t abandon you.” Lin An Lan whispered.

But Cheng Yu didn’t believe it anymore. It was like he had grown up overnight in this one month, suddenly seeing things for what they were. He didn’t say anything, just hugged Lin An Lan tighter. He thought, only Lin An Lan would never leave him.

Adults had their own thoughts, their own thrilling worlds. Which was why they could afford not to care about him, leaving him at home while they never came back.

But Lin An Lan—his little brother—was different. They were both still kids, and their world was still small. So, they clung to each other, staying close in this tiny little world, keeping each other company.

The world of adults and the world of kids were never the same. He had no right to ask his parents to do anything, so all he could do was accept everything they did, every decision they made.

He let go of Lin An Lan and said gently, “Let’s do our homework.”

Lin An Lan looked at him, but suddenly, he felt like he couldn’t understand Cheng Yu anymore.

That night, it was Cheng Xiao who bathed them. He still loved his little grandson very much, but when it came to his son and daughter-in-law’s issues, there wasn’t much he could do.

Cheng Feng had always been that way. He had scolded him, lectured him, but Cheng Feng always had a bunch of excuses, saying he couldn’t change.

Yu Hanshuang was even colder. She only said she wouldn’t get a divorce and refused to say anything more.

Of course, Cheng Xiao knew this was all Cheng Feng’s fault. But at the end of the day, Cheng Feng was still his son—he couldn’t just beat him up to vent Yu Hanshuang’s anger. All he could do was hope the two of them would work things out on their own.

After their bath, Cheng Xiao carried Cheng Yu out first. However when he went to pick Lin An Lan up, he grabbed onto his collar and asked, “Grandpa, can you take me to see Mom tomorrow?”

“You miss your mom?”

Lin An Lan nodded.

“Alright.” Cheng Xiao agreed.

“Don’t take big brother with us, and don’t tell him either.”

“Why?”

Cheng Xiao was confused. Weren’t these two practically glued to each other? Why the secrecy now?

“I have something I want to tell Mom in private.” Lin An Lan said. “Just don’t tell big brother for now.”

Hearing this, Cheng Xiao was a little curious about what he wanted to say, but he nodded. “Alright, Grandpa promises you.”

“Thank you, Grandpa.” Lin An Lan said obediently.

The next morning, Cheng Yu went to his tutoring class, while Lin An Lan used the excuse of feeling unwell to stay home.

When Cheng Yu heard he wasn’t feeling well, he immediately said he wouldn’t go either. He wanted to stay home and take care of Lin An Lan.

But there was no way Lin An Lan would let him stay, so he coaxed him, “Just go, okay? When you come back, you can teach me what you learned. If you don’t go, I won’t know anything. Go on.”

He looked at Cheng Yu with big, watery eyes, making Cheng Yu feel helpless, and so he went to class reluctantly.

“Then get some good rest.”

“Mhm.”

“I’ll come back early.”

“Mhm.”

Lin An Lan waved at him. “Big brother, listen well in class.”

“Alright.” Cheng Yu patted his head.

Before leaving, he specifically reminded Cheng Xiao to take good care of Lin An Lan.

As soon as Cheng Yu’s car left, Lin An Lan jumped off the bed and pulled Cheng Xiao, urging him to take him to see Yu Hanshuang.

Cheng Xiao looked at his little mischievous expression and, feeling amused, picked him up and carried him into the car.
