Chapter 9.1 I’ve never had friends
He Shao didn’t know if Yan Hao was deliberately trying to humiliate him, but it was definitely true that he could finish a level 3 energy block in 10 minutes. H*ll, it took the same amount of time for the level 3 energy block as it did for the level 1 energy block. Not right, he was just starting out then, so maybe now he could do it in five minutes? Was this still a human being?
Then He Shao watched as Yan Hao made energy blocks from his own stockpile of two pieces and his whole body withered like a weed, with no life left in it.
“It seems easy enough to do, but I don’t know how well the energy blocks I made will work.” Yan Hao looked at the energy blocks he had made with a worried look on his face.
The process of creating an energy block was to reorganize the unstable energy into a stable energy source that could be used by a mecha, but in the process of supplying the energy, the effectiveness of the energy block was directly related to how long the energy block would last.
When the energy block was used to power a mech, a portion of the energy was released, and this release was the energy block’s efficiency. The higher the efficiency, the longer the energy supply, and the better the properties of the energy block, hence it was the process of combining the energy by the builder that determined the efficiency. Generally speaking, machines produced around 50 per cent of the energy, while a skilled mech builder could produce up to 80 per cent.
So the measure of whether or not a mech’s energy block was up to scratch was determined by the 50th percentile. Above 50 percent, was a basic pass, and above 70 percent, was an excellent pass.
“With your skills, the performance can’t be too bad.” Hearing the god of learning’s self-doubt, He Shao who was on the bed couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
“Could I have made it too fast, overlooked something, or not combined it thoroughly enough which has affected its effectiveness?” Yan Hao kept on feeling that the process of making his own energy blocks was too easy. It was much easier than when he made medicines before.
“Didn’t you follow the textbook step-by-step? What do you think you’re missing?”
Yan Hao reviewed his process carefully, but couldn’t find anything he had missed.
“You didn’t find anything right?” He Shao couldn’t help but be puzzled, “I say, you’re at least a god of learning, how can you have so little confidence in what you’re making?”
“I just think it’s a bit too easy.” Yan Hao said honestly.
He Shao covered his chest as he felt his crumbling internal organs being abused to dust: “Enough. If you show off again, I’m done with you.”
“I’m… I’m sorry.” Yan Hao’s face paling, he apologized in a panic.
Was he showing off again? Was He Shao going to start hating him like the people in his previous life?
“At least you’ve got tact.”
Yan Hao stood there hesitantly as he looked at He Shao who was lying with his back to him, wanting to say something, but not knowing how to start. A moment later, He Shao turned over on his own and his eyes met Yan Hao’s apprehensive ones.
“Why are you looking at me like that?” He Shao asked in surprise.
“I….” Yan Hao pursed his lips and finally, with a flash of determination in his eyes, looked straight at He Shao and asked, “Are we still friends?”
Yan Hao wasn’t someone who would entangle himself, it was just that in this life he had made a rare friend, and He Shao was his roommate, moreover although they hadn’t spent much time together, Yan Hao already liked He Shao a little. He didn’t want to lose this friend, so he wanted to ask directly.
But his question stunned He Shao completely, who sat up in bed instantly, and then sat up straight with a serious expression on his face.
“What do you….. what do you mean by that? How come we’re not friends anymore?”
Yan Hao was overjoyed: “So that means you’ve forgiven me?”
“Wait a minute.” He Shao felt that there was something wrong with this conversation. He ran through it in his head again but still couldn’t understand, “What do you mean by I’ve forgiven you? What did you do that I should forgive you for?”
“I just….. I just showed off to you. I’m sorry, I promise I won’t do it again.”
“……” After hearing Yan Hao’s earnest and serious assurance, He Shao was dumbfounded for ten seconds after making sure he was not joking. He walked over, opened a packet of snacks he had bought from the vending machine, and stuffed half a packet down hard to calm himself down.
“Big brother, I was just joking, couldn’t you tell?”
“Joking?” This time, it was Yan Hao who was stunned.
“Of course. You’re my friend, you’re a good student, and you’re a god of learning, I’m just happy for you. Sure, I did get a little bummed, after all, you went through a few books and made a better energy block than I did after six years of high school. A normal person would be a little frustrated. But that doesn’t mean I’m jealous of you. What do you take me for?” He Shao asked agitatedly.
“I didn’t say you were jealous of me, it’s me who shouldn’t show off in front of you.” Yan Hao criticized himself.
“You were showing off? You… wait, were you really showing off?”
“No.” Yan Hao shook his head, “I didn’t mean it, I’ll be careful from now on, I’ll never say things like that again.”
“No, you…..” He Shao still felt that something was wrong. How come he and Yan Hao weren’t on the same page? “Have you ever been in a similar situation before?”

Thank you for the new chapter!!! I was so happy to see this post.
I’m glad that He Shao is pursuing the topic of a ‘show off’ and actually getting to the bottom of things. Yan Hao totally deserves a good friend with a high EQ like He Shao!
Mygosh! When he asked “are we still friends” this made me tear up. The trauma he suffer from his past life really is leaving a shadow tsk my poor baby. Keep fighting we’re rooting for you! Jiayu!
He Shao is a true and good friend..
His EQ is also suitably high, so he’s able to immediately tell that something is deeply broken inside Yan Hao, and he’s a nice dude, so he wants to help his friend get over the things of his past and mend himself into the best version he can be. It really is just a nice bonus that Yan Hao is able to help him study.
My poor babyy😢😢😢😢😢
Thank you for the chapter!
*Makes ugly sobbing sounds*
He Shao is just so good and genuine! It’s good to exist outside of a story’s control, people can be so wonderful. Our baby, Yan Hao, can live well now that he is branching away from the story and leaving behind the cannon fodder lifestyle
