Chapter 124.2 Evaluation Rating

Editor: Jodi

Mech Building Masters were highly respected professions in the Federation, especially Level Eight Mech Building Masters, as each of them held significant positions in the Federation.

Qin Yongchang raised his hand slightly, indicating that there was no need for excessive politeness, then walked straight to the center of the room where a very large device was positioned; it was used specifically to evaluate the levels of mechs. Moving over to stand by it, his assistant who was following closely behind him immediately handed him a sheet of paper.

And taking the paper, Qin Yongchang’s gaze flickered, then he looked at Yan Hao. “Number one, come here.”

Yan Hao walked over hurriedly, “Master Qin.”

Qin Yongchang didn’t seem surprised by Yan Hao’s youthfulness as he gestured with his hand, “Bring out your mech.”

“Yes.” Yan Hao nodded then taking out a spatial button, summoned the mech he had made, and then a silver-white mech appeared in the middle of the room. In an instant, the visual impact stunned everyone in the room.

It was a mech with flawless streamlined design, exquisite craftsmanship, and an imposing presence. Just standing there quietly, it emitted a mental energy fluctuation that could be sensed by those around it, a unique fluctuation that only newly completed mechs possessed.

The difficulty of making mechs above Level 6 increased because their internal parts needed mental energy infusion in order to build them, and within a mech, there could be hundreds or even thousands of these parts that required mental energy infusion for building, which meant that it was only when the mech builder had fully assembled and built the mech, with all parts fitting together, and the mental energy aligning, could the mech emit a noticeable mental energy fluctuation. And any mech capable of emitting such a fluctuation couldn’t be of a low level.

“Come here and inject your mental energy.” Qin Yongchang, after a brief moment of surprise, regained his composure quickly and pointed to a device on his desk.

This device was used to collect and analyze mental energy and was also designed to prevent cheating. One could only pass an evaluation if the mental energy fluctuation of the mech builder matched that of the internal mental energy of the mech being tested. As the production cycle of a mech was quite long, the Federation’s Mech Association couldn’t supervise the whole process, hence the testing of the mental energy ensured that nobody could make a mech on behalf of someone else.

As the mech had already been placed in the testing area, the moment Yan Hao injected his mental energy, the device was quickly activated, and after a buzzing sound, a series of data appeared on the display screen. This data represented all the mech’s attributes. The entire process lasted about ten minutes, and the final score appeared: 90 points.

“90!” Someone couldn’t help but shout, and it was none other than the same middle aged man who had struck a conversation with Yan Hao earlier.

If he hadn’t seen Yan Hao injecting his mental energy into the device himself, to ensure that there was no chance of him cheating, he wouldn’t have believed that this mech was made by the teenager in front of him. No, even now, he still felt like he was in a dream.

Qin Yongchang raised an eyebrow, showing some surprise, though it wasn’t too obvious. He looked at the sequence of data then said to Yan Hao, “System coordination, full marks; mental energy alignment, 95 points; energy transmission rate, 90 points. Your failing part is in the weapon.”

Qin Yongchang pointed to the value representing the weapon. The weapon system had a score of 60 points.

“Your weapon score, is a bare pass, which surprises me.” Qin Yongchang told him, “The thermal weapons equipped on your mech scored around 90 points each, but your melee weapon design seems rushed. This rating score is only barely enough for a Level 4 mech. Equipping a level six mech with such a weapon, pulls down the level of the entire mech. Keep in mind, that the main difference between Level 6 and Level 5 mechs, albeit a small one, lies in their melee weapons. So, my final score for you is 85 points.”

Once the device finished checking, the evaluating officer, based on his/her experience and understanding, would give the mech builder a second assessment, and this assessment could either be adding points or deductimg them. Clearly, because of the melee weapon issue, Qin Yongchang deducted five points from Yan Hao’s overall points.

However 85 points were already enough for him to pass the evaluation to become a Level 6 Mech Builder.

Yan Hao didn’t have any argument concerning this result. His purpose for coming here was to get the Level 6 certification. As for the weapon, he had designed it specifically to target the zergs which hadn’t been proven with results on the battlefield, so even if he explained, no one would believe him, hence he didn’t bother.

“Thank you, Master Qin for your guidance.” Yan Hao said respectfully.

“En.” Qin Yongchang nodded in satisfaction. Then he tapped a spot on the light brain not far away and a moment later, a gold-stamped certificate was dispensed from the mech testing device.

Picking it up, he handed it to Yan Hao amidst the astonished and envious looks of the other two. “Congratulations, you’ve passed the Level 6 evaluation. This is your certificate.”

Seeing the certificate printed so quickly, Yan Hao was caught off guard. He hadn’t mentioned his Instructing Master yet. He had promised Old Pang that he would put in his name as the Instructing Master on the Level 6 certificate.

Going over, he was about to mention this matter to see if he could ask Master Qin to print a new one for him, however when he got closer, he noticed that Old Pang’s name was already printed awe-inspiringly on the gold certificate.

“Instructing Master? How, how did you know?” Yan Hao asked in surprise.

Qin Yongchang laughed, a laugh that made him seem much friendlier. “It was Old Pang himself who made the appointment for you for the Level 6 evaluation. Otherwise how could a student who hasn’t even built a Level 4 mech directly enter the Level 6 evaluation?”

“It turns out it’s like this.” Yan Hao suddenly understood.

“But, is there some kind of conflict between Old Pang and Old Zhong?” Qin Yongchang suddenly asked him.

“Why do you ask this?” Yan Hao was confused.

“Aren’t you Old Zhong’s disciple as well? That’s why at first, I thought of putting both Old Pang and Old Zhong’s names on the evaluation certificate, however Old Pang refused vehemently, saying only his name should be credited.” Qin Yongchang told him.

“…..” Yan Hao.

This, how should he respond? Should he say that his Master was feeling jealous?

When the other two middle aged men who were there for the evaluation heard this, they went from surprise to realisation. It turns out this teenager was actually Old Pang and Old Zhong’s disciple. How had they not realized this from the beginning? It was obvious that at that time the name Yan Hao had sounded familiar. Wasn’t he the one who, a few months ago had been acknowledged publicly by Old Zhong as the inheritor of the mimetic mech and also the one who made the Second Young Master of the War God Legion the Federation’s number one soft rice eater?

A person who could be involved in the making of the Level Six mimetic mech a few months ago, what was so special about him taking the evaluation to become a Level Six Mech Builder? This was as it should be okay?

Because of this, the two middle aged men who had been filled with self-doubt from the moment Yan Hao started the evaluation finally found their balance. Being able to be accepted as a disciple by both Old Pang and Old Zhong at the same time, could he be ordinary? They were the ones who were ordinary.

Us ordinary people can’t compete with an anomaly.

The moment Yan Hao came out of the Federation’s Mech Association, as if Old Pang had timed it, he sent him a message. It wasn’t long, just a concise: [Send me a picture of the evaluation certificate.]

Yan Hao was confused, however he still took a picture and sent it to Old Pang.

When Old Pang received the image of the evaluation certificate, he laughed, then with a raising of his hand, sent it to Old Zhong.

At this moment, Old Zhong was in the middle of correcting Baby Bug’s calculation error when all of a sudden, he saw the picture sent by Old Pang, with a certain line of text circled with red: Instructing Master, Pang Tianhe.

“Hmph!” Old Zhong snorted heavily, scaring Baby Bug so much that he turned white.
