Chapter 173.1 The same mental energy level as the Zerg Emperor

Editor: Jodi

Planet X-19.

Sheng Heng, as the only one who had spoken to the Zerg Emperor, was summoned urgently by Yu Xiu Yuan the moment he landed.

“Marshal Yu, what’s the current situation? How many planets has the Zerg Emperor attacked?” Sheng Heng had barely escaped from the Zerg Emperor, who, in a fit of rage, tore through space to a neighboring planet. Then after wreaking havoc there, it immediately tore through space again to the next, and in the time since his return alone, he had heard that it had already attacked three planets.

“The fourth is under attack now.” Yu Xiu Yuan told him.

There was a guilty expression on Sheng Heng’s face: “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have provoked the Zerg Emperor.”

If he hadn’t given in to the momentary urge to boast, if he hadn’t allowed big brother to unleash the energy cannon, those planets might still be intact.

“The Zerg Emperor has only destroyed the military fortresses of these planets. The residents are still safe. And this isn’t your fault. In the eyes of the Zerg Emperor, we are all just food for its evolution and breeding of its offsprings. Not killing us now is merely it just keeping us alive for later.” Yu Xiu Yuan told him.

“Marshal Yu is right, this isn’t your fault.” The others consoled as well.

“Let’s talk about your conversation with the Zerg Emperor.” And at the mention of this, the command room immediately became quiet as all eyes, including those of the military leaders who could only join via video, turned to Sheng Heng.

Being able to talk to the Zerg Emperor was an unexpected surprise.

“Tell us about your conversation and how you felt during it in detail.” Yu Xiu Yuan told him.

“Yes. I first felt a very strong mental energy, which somehow connected with mine, and then I suddenly heard the Zerg Emperor’s voice.” Sheng Heng recounted his dialogue with the Zerg Emperor immediately.

And after he was done, a long silence fell over the command room.

“The zergs are a civilization higher than ours and have already been destroyed?” This was really beyond everyone’s expectations.

“I think Sheng Heng’s guess isn’t wrong. The Zerg Emperor is likely the last spark of their civilization after it was destroyed, existing solely to continue its legacy.” This was said by Professor Zhur, a biologist from the Federation Science Academy who had been studying the biological structure of the zergs. “The zergs special ability to reproduce has always been a key focus of our research, and just as the Zerg Emperor said, with enough nutrition and food, one zerg can produce a whole race.”

“That’s too terrifying.”

“If the Zerg Emperor alone can breed a race of highly intelligent zergs, then why did their civilization perish?” Yu Xiu Yuan questioned.

When the crowd heard this, they felt that he made sense. If the zergs could self-reproduce, then that meant they weren’t a small force that could just be killed, so how did it get to the point where they would be destroyed completely?

“The Zerg Emperor mentioned that it would enter a Divergence State after consuming Sheng Heng.” Professor Zhur analyzed. “For evolutionary progress, higher levels require more nutrition, which is why the Zerg Emperor wants to consume Sheng Heng. However similarly, the higher the species, the lower their reproductive capability. We don’t know what state the Zerg Emperor would be in after divergence, but I suspect, and am almost certain, that its reproductive ability will decrease. Moreover, reproducing highly intelligent zergs would require immense nutrition.”

“Even one Zerg Emperor is formidable enough. If it can produce even one more like itself, then that would be enough for us to suffer immensely.” General Xiao said calmly.

“That’s why we absolutely can’t let it undergo divergence.” Professor Zhur said decisively.

Sheng Heng nodded in agreement. He had thought of this when the Zerg Emperor proposed that he trade his life for all the lives on a planet. He wasn’t someone who feared death, hence if sacrificing himself could really save the Federation, then he would do it without hesitating. However with the Zerg Emperor already so powerful, allowing it to grow even stronger would leave the Federation with no chance at all.

“Once the Zerg Emperor undergoes divergence, the Federation will no longer have any chance of a turnaround and will possibly become just nutrients for the zergs. They would come to our planets and just pick those with high mental energy levels to devour, then year after year, month after month, over time, their civilisation might actually revive slowly.” Professor Zhur told all of them.

The faces of the crowd turned green as they listened to his tentative speculation.

“Even if the Federation ends up being destroyed, we can’t let the Zerg Emperor succeed.” General Xiao couldn’t accept the idea of humans being raised and then eaten by the zergs like cattle and sheep.

“Can’t you think of something positive? What destroyed? Didn’t you hear the Zerg Emperor say it could diverge just as well if it devoured enough people?” General Yun glared at his friend angrily.

“Then you tell me what we should do?” General Xiao was out of ideas.

“If I knew wouldn’t I have done it a long time ago?” General Yun couldn’t help but retort back.

“…” General Xiao.

“In short, nothing can happen to Sheng Heng.” Yu Xiu Yuan interjected. “As long as Sheng Heng isn’t devoured by the Zerg Emperor, we can delay its divergence period for a while, and this time, will be our opportunity.”
