Vicious male counterpart isn’t competing anymore [Rebirth]

Chapter 167.1 Two in one

Editor: Jodi

When Sheng Heng entered the command room, General Admiral Sheng was staring with red eyes at a video feed in front of him intently. The video was of a starry sky filled with mechs and zerg debris, showing that an intense battle had just taken place, with sparks shooting out from the inside of certain mech fragments from time to time.

“General Admiral.” Sheng Heng walked over to his side.

“Sheng Heng? You’re awake?” Seeing Sheng Heng, a hint of warmth softened General Admiral Sheng’s otherwise cold and stern expression. He had been in the command center the whole time Sheng Heng had been unconscious, only receiving daily updates from the doctor about his condition, as after knowing that he was out of danger, he hadn’t gone to visit him.

“How are you recovering?”

“I’m fully recovered and ready to fight.” Sheng Heng replied.

“Good.” General Admiral Sheng didn’t say anything like he should rest for a few more days. At this moment on the battlefield, there wasn’t any soldier who wasn’t injured.

“How’s the situation on the frontline now?” Sheng Heng asked.

“Two more mutant zergs have been k*lled.” General Admiral Sheng told him.

“Really? Then that leaves only three.” Sheng Heng was pleasantly surprised. In the past half-month, all the level nine mechs had only managed to kll three mutant zergs. He hadn’t expected that two more would be klled while he was unconscious. “Who k*lled them?”

“General Xiao and General Yun worked together to k*ll one in Galaxy G-12. At the same time, General Yun’s mech, Wind in the Pines, was severely damaged and can’t be repaired in the short term.” General Admiral Sheng told him.

Sheng Heng was horrified. “Two level ten mech warriors teamed up and were only able to k*ll one?”

Level ten mechs were their ultimate fighting force. Initially, when the mutant zergs first appeared, the two Generals didn’t engage immediately, reserving their strength in case the Zerg Emperor came out. However the power of the eight mutant zergs exceeded the military’s estimates, what’s more the current level nine mechs seemed incapable of annihilating them completely, hence after thinking about it, General Xiao and General Yun decided to intervene early, with the aim of k*lling the mutant zergs as quickly as possible. They originally thought that it was a sure thing, so why was it that they had damaged the mech instead? This was the reason why Sheng Heng was surprised.

“The mutant zergs are evolving.” General Admiral Sheng told him. “During this period of time, they’ve consumed a lot of warriors with high level mental energy, and biologists say the zergs are undergoing a rapid evolutionary phase.”

“Then what about the other one?” If it had taken two level ten mech warriors to kll one mutant zerg, then who had klled the other one?

“Old Pang modified the Tianhe One warship and k*lled a mutant zerg, however…..” General Admiral Sheng’s voice trembled slightly, “Yuan Hai is gone.”

“Lieutenant General Yuan?!” Yuan Hai was one of the War God Legion’s level nine mech warriors.

“Tianhe One requires a minute to charge up, and so five level nine warriors worked together to keep the mutant zerg within the firing range of the warship. However at the last moment of evacuation, the zerg noticed it, so Yuan Hai rushed back with his mech to prevent it from escaping, and together with the mutant zerg….. was blasted into flying dust particles by the warship.” General Admiral Sheng clenched his fists, trembling, “just a moment ago.”

Sheng Heng suddenly lifted his head, looking at the screen that was filled with debris once more, and at an unknown time, many mechs had appeared, forming a circle as they stood in the void. Then they raised their right hands solemnly in a neat formation in a salute to the void.

His eyes hot, Sheng Heng couldn’t help but straighten up, then facing the screen, raised his right hand, saluting the distant starry sky solemnly. Around him, the other soldiers in the command center did the same.

After a full three minutes, the mechs in the video dispersed slowly, and there among them, Sheng Heng saw his big brother’s mech, Morning Star.

Morning Star, a mech that had been custom-made for Sheng Zhuo by Di Ya was usually a pristine silver-white, untouched by any dirt. However at this moment, the all silver-white was dark, and there were large sections of its outer shell missing at the back, exposing the dark parts and wires inside.

“General Admiral, I request to go and k*ll the remaining three mutant zergs. Please recall Major General Sheng Zhuo.” Sheng Heng couldn’t help but say.

“The base needs protection.” General Admiral Sheng said in reply.

“Call big brother back, he can protect it just as well. Besides, Morning Star was made by Master Di Ya himself, so it would be easier for him to repair it.” Sheng Heng was so anxious that he even forgot to use Sheng Zhuo’s military title.

“You think Sheng Zhuo would let you replace him?”

“It’s not about replacing him, it’s that I’m more suitable.” Sheng Heng pulled a sapphire blue spatial button from his chest and presented it to General Admiral Sheng. “This was given to me by Xiao Hao. It’s a level eight mimetic mech.”

Victory’s mimetic system was only at level seven, however with the enhancement of the phantom spirit stone, it could be considered to be a level eight mimetic mech.

General Admiral Sheng’s eyes widened as he stared intently at the sapphire blue spatial button in Sheng Heng’s hand. He knew Yan Hao was making a mech for Sheng Heng, so this was the new mimetic mech Yan Hao had been working on?

“How’s its performance?”

“Xiao Hao didn’t have time to test it, but it should be able to catch up to the War God.” The War God was the origin and symbol of the War God Legion, a level ten mech that had been passed down through the generations of the Sheng family.

“Father, let me go to the frontline.” Sheng Heng requested again.

In the end, General Admiral Sheng agreed to Sheng Heng’s request to fight on the frontline against the mutant zergs. However instead of recalling Sheng Zhuo, he recalled another level nine mech warrior who had sustained much more severe injuries.

Perhaps because the Sima Legion had k*lled the most low level zergs in the previous year, the initial surge of the zerg tide had taken place within the star domain that was guarded by the Sima Legion, making their base the epicenter of this battle. When Sheng Heng arrived at the Sima Legion’s base, it was Sheng Zhuo himself who went to welcome him, taking him almost as soon as he stepped off the warship to the military department’s meeting.

Previously, Sheng Heng wouldn’t have been eligible to attend such meetings, however now that he had ‘Victory’, if it was really as powerful as the War God as Yan Hao had predicted, then Sheng Heng would become the fourth level ten mech warrior in the Federation, and would have a unique position in the Federation just like the other level ten mech warriors.

The moment Sheng Heng entered the room, almost all eyes converged on him, and Sheng Heng, the expression on his face not changing simply gave Marshal Yu Xiu Yuan, the head of the meeting a military salute: “Marshal Yu.”

Marshal Yu nodded then immediately got to the point: “I heard you brought a level eight mimetic mech with combat capabilities that are comparable to that of a traditional level ten mech?”

“Yes.” Sheng Heng nodded, took a few steps forward, then released the mech from the spatial button.

It was a mech that, bathed in a deep blue hue and glowing as if touched by sunlight, looked like a pristine, dazzling ocean under the meeting room lights, exuding a powerful mental energy suppression.

At this moment, everyone’s eyes lit up with a hot light. A mimetic mech that was comparable to a traditional level ten mech, it had finally been made? Especially General Yun, whose mech had just been damaged. He looked at ‘Victory’ with an almost fiery intensity.

And seeing the mech, he even considered asking Marshal Yu to allocate it to him forcefully. In times of war, when there was a shortage of mechs and warriors, reallocating resources for optimal use was common, and if he could prove that he was much more suited than Sheng Heng to pilot this mech, then he could demand for it. He was a seasoned level ten warrior, one that had extensive combat experience, hence he was confident that he could completely outperform Sheng Heng. However on second thought, he dismissed the idea hurriedly, because…… this mech had been made by Yan Hao, and he had customized it specially and specifically for Sheng Heng.

“It’s called Victory, a victory for the Federation.” Sheng Heng declared.

“Good.” Marshal Yu shouted. Victory belonged to the Federation, and the Federation really needed this victory badly. “Put the mech away, and let’s start the meeting.”

Sheng Heng put the mech away then took a seat at the end of the table near Sheng Zhuo.

“The battle has been raging for twenty-five days, and we’ve already lost eleven planets and countless mech warriors. And now, the soldiers of the major legions who are fighting are also covered in heavy injuries. The battle can’t continue to go on like this. If we continue to drag on like this our warriors will gradually lose their combat effectiveness because of the injuries while the zergs reproduce rapidly.” Marshal Yu’s expression was serious as he said, “According to our scouts, large waves of zergs have been found within the eleven planets they’ve captured now, and the zerg eggs are even more numerous.”

“The priority should be to kll the mutant zergs first.” General Xiao spoke up. “If we kll them, it will weaken the zergs who would have lost their high-intelligence command.”

“But didn’t the biologists speculate that the mutant zergs are a sign of the zergs rapid evolution, and that they have been sent out by the Zerg Emperor to gather nutrients? K*lling them all might enrage the Emperor.” Someone reminded.

“Could it be that we should just let them be and wait for them to finish evolving completely? By then the Emperor won’t come out?” General Xiao asked.

“……” The room fell silent.

This was really a dilemma. The situation today was that the mutant zergs were already much more powerful than humans had imagined, what’s more once all of them were klled, there was a more than ninety percent chance that the Zerg Emperor would come out. However at this stage, in order to deal with the mutant zergs, the Federation had already done all it could do, hence if the Zerg Emperor showed up, then they were almost as good as doomed. However if they didn’t kll the zergs completely and continued to delay like this, the Federation would still be doomed, albeit a bit delayed. And during this period of delay, would there be a miracle? They didn’t know, however they were willing to believe.

“I agree with General Xiao.” Sheng Heng suddenly spoke out. “The Federation has already been defending for centuries, and what we got in return, is the zergs evolving. If we continue to wait, there’s no telling what will happen. Whether the Emperor is evolving or healing, no one knows, but forcing it to come out now is better than waiting for it to evolve completely before coming out. Even if we can’t beat it in the end and end up having to retreat to preserve our strength, I’d rather it be after we’ve given our all. At least, I don’t want to be part of that preserved strength.”

The meaning of Sheng Heng’s words were already very clear, and that was that regardless of the Federation’s final decision, he was determined to fight the zergs to the end in this battle.

“Good kid, you’ve got spirit!” General Xiao praised him fiercely.

Sheng Heng chuckled softly.

“I feel the same. A level ten mech is deployed only when the Federation’s very survival is at stake. I won’t be part of that preserved strength either.” General Xiao declared his stance.

“D*mn it. My mech’s damaged, and now I have to watch you this little brat show off alone.” General Yun’s expression was filled with unwillingness.

“General Yun.” Sheng Heng suddenly called out to him.

“What?” It hadn’t been easy for General Yun to finally manage to suppress his desire to hijack Sheng Heng’s mech for himself, so at this moment he was very impatient with Sheng Heng.

“Before I came here, my father asked me to bring you something.” Sheng Heng said with a smile.

“What is it?”

The eyes of Sheng Zhuo who was sitting beside him flashed as if he had guessed something, then he saw Sheng Heng pull a familiar-looking spatial button out from his pocket.

It was a silver-grey spatial button with the emblem of the War God Legion on it, and at first glance it looked simple, even having mottled traces on it, however these traces sparkled with an antique aura under the light.

“This is…..” General Yun also seemed to realize something as he jumped up from his chair excitedly.
