Chapter 166.1 Publicizing the mimetic mech

Editor: Jodi

Sheng Heng and Yan Hao left the hospital together, going back to the base before parting ways. Sheng Heng went to report to General Admiral Sheng, while Yan Hao went to Maintenance Room Number One.

“Master Yan Hao, you’re back?” Xiao Wei, who had been assigned as Yan Hao’s assistant by Di Ya, greeted him as he entered.

“Did you need me for something?” Yan Hao asked him.

“There’s a problem with one of the mech systems, and Master Di Ya said you’re quick at debugging and so wanted you to take a look.” Xiao Wei explained.

“Okay, I’ll check it out.” Then Yan Hao said while going out, “Is there any boxed lunch left? Can you please get one for me?”

“You haven’t eaten yet? I’ll get it for you right now. How about you eat first before going to the maintenance room?” Xiao Wei asked quickly.

“There’s no need, system debugging doesn’t take long. Just help me get a boxed lunch and put it in the room inside.” And saying this, he was already stepping onto the lift ladder.

The operating system currently used in the mechs had been developed by Old Zhong and his disciples, and Yan Hao had been involved in the entire process of the system’s annual upgrades and modifications, hence he was more than familiar with it. And so with just a brief look at a few data points, he would be able to identify and resolve any issue quickly.

Yan Hao finished the system debugging in just ten minutes, then after giving the mech to Xiao Wei, he went straight into the room where Xiao Wei had already placed a boxed lunch, and then while he ate, made a video call to Old Zhong. It took a while for the call to connect, and on the other end, Old Zhong was standing on a lift ladder, holding repair tools as he worked on a level nine mech.

“Master, I have something I would like to discuss with you.” Yan Hao started.

Old Zhong continued his work without pause, responding, “Go ahead.”

“I want to publicize the improved method for the level five mimetic system.” Yan Hao told him.

Old Zhong’s movements lurched for a moment as he turned to look at Yan Hao who was on the other end of the video call slowly. “Now?”

“Now. Master, I think now is the best time to release the level five mimetic system.” Yan Hao continued, explaining his reasoning, “Since arriving here, I’ve noticed that the base is overwhelmed with not just damaged mechs, but more so with mech warriors suffering from hand injuries, and because of their prolonged operation of mechs, most of them can no longer enter the battlefield. While broken mechs can be repaired, the hands of mech warriors need time to heal, and there’s no telling how long this battle is going to last. Perhaps in another half month, there won’t be many warriors left in the Federation capable of fighting, so I think deploying mimetic mechs is imperative.”

“Have you solved the issue with the Tempest Stone?” Old Zhong asked him.

There were two reasons why Old Zhong was reluctant to promote low level mimetic mechs: one, was that low level mimetic mechs didn’t have high combat effectiveness, and the other, was that in order to support the operation of the mimetic system, the extremely rare and expensive Tempest Stone had to be used to make the mimetic mech core.

“I have. Over the past six months, while building Victory — Victory is the level seven mimetic mech I just finished.” The mimetic mech had just been named, hence Yan Hao explained, afraid that his Master wouldn’t understand, “I experimented extensively to maximize the potential of the phantom spirit stone and discovered that combining Green Crystal Stone with ten percent phantom spirit stone, along with mental energy catalysis, can achieve the same effect as the Tempest Stone.”

Old Zhong’s eyes lit up. The Tempest Stone was a rare ore, but Green Crystal Stone was not— the Federation had a substantial reserve of it. Yan Hao’s discovery wasn’t just significant for mimetic mechs, but for traditional mechs that required the Tempest Stone as well.

“Since you’ve thought it through, then go ahead and do it.” As early as when the usefulness of the phantom spirit stone had been verified, Yan Hao had discussed this idea of publicizing the mimetic system with him.

The first mimetic mech that Yan Hao had modified, Black Soul, utilized a level five mimetic system, and at that time, he had only had a superficial understanding of the system, and so him being able to modify Black Soul successfully was because of his extraordinary talent in maths. Ordinary people might struggle to modify mechs with just this basic knowledge, but what if someone provided them with a step-by-step tutorial?

Yan Hao had been working on this for some time. He had once promised his classmates that he would teach them about mimetic mechs if they were interested, and he hadn’t just been saying it, he was actually doing it. Over the past six months, he had been writing a tutorial on modifying mimetic mechs, tailored to He Shao’s level of understanding and if it wasn’t because of the sudden zerg tide, he would have already given the tutorial to He Shao for him to try to modify mechs independently.

And now, with a decision having been made, he tapped a few times on his light brain to send Senior Colonel Di Ya a message and not long after, Di Ya entered the room.

“Yan Hao, you wanted to see me?” Di Ya’s beard was bristly and unshaven, dark circles under his eyes, however he still looked to be in good spirits. His gaze swept over Yan Hao, then landed on the mech behind him. “Are you planning to change Rebirth’s weapon? I’ve already prepared everything, and they are all lance-type weapons. I’ll have someone bring them over now.”

And saying this, he turned to call someone.

“It’s not that.” Yan Hao called out hurriedly.

“You don’t like lances?”

“You come in first.”

Di Ya froze, then stepped in and sat down beside Yan Hao who passed him a bottle of water casually, and taking it, he unscrewed the cover and drank half of it as if he hadn’t had water in days.
