Chapter 162.2 Zerg Tide

Editor: Jodi

“Actually I’ve always had a question: three hundred years ago when the zergs suddenly appeared, the Federation was unprepared, and billions of people died because we were caught off guard. However why is it that their population hasn’t increased in a significantly obvious manner given their strong reproductive abilities as well as the number of humans they’ve devoured and that instead, they just reproduce in numbers similar to those we eliminate?”

The moment Professor Bai asked this question, everyone in the room froze. They only knew that the zergs had strong reproductive abilities, and that if they k*lled a batch another batch would appear, however no one had ever thought about why it was so deeply.

“It’s because they are evolving into higher level zergs, and this takes time. They are essentially captive breeding us.”

Professor Bai’s words struck like thunder, echoing in everyone’s minds. Captive breeding? Was he saying the zergs were captive breeding humans like how humans captive bred cattle and sheep?

“Professor Bai, are you saying that this newly emerged cyan zergs could be a newly evolved higher level intelligence species?” Yu Xiu Yuan couldn’t help but ask.

“It’s very likely.” Professor Bai nodded.

“Then to what level do you think they have evolved to?”

“This, I’m not very sure. The zergs are a type of lifeform we’ve never encountered before, and I’m not clear on their mode of evolution.” Professor Bai shook his head. “But what I can be sure of is that their evolution speed is much faster than that of humans.”

“Now isn’t the time to delve into the evolution of zergs. The urgent priority is to re-stabilize the Federation’s front lines. We can’t afford to lose more planets.” Yu Xiu Yuan turned to General Admiral Sheng. “Tianxing, currently the War God Legion is the only legion that hasn’t faced an attack, and your level of preparedness is the highest. See if you can support the other legions.”

“Alright.” General Admiral Sheng nodded in agreement.

“Why is it that it’s only the War God Legion’s garrison that hasn’t been attacked by the zergs?” Sima Qing suddenly raised a suspicion.

And frowning, General Admiral Sheng looked at Sima Qing. “General Admiral Sima, what are you implying?”

“Nothing much, I’m just simply curious. How can it be so coincidental that both General Admiral Feng’s and I’s garrisons have been attacked, yet the War God Legions’ remains unscathed. Could it be that the War God Legion has some special methods for preventing the zergs from attacking or that Master Yan Hao has made a new weapon and given it to you secretly? I hope General Admiral Sheng won’t hide it for himself and that you would instead share it with all of us.” Sima Qing said.

And the moment he finished saying this, the others also looked over. This matter was indeed a bit too strange. Of the three major legions, the other two had been attacked, yet only the War God Legion remained completely unharme.

“If I wanted to hide things, ‘Haoyue’ wouldn’t have appeared in your legions, and if Master Yan Hao was to have given us something secretly, the phantom spirit stones wouldn’t have been used on your level 9 mechs.” The moment General Admiral Sheng said this, the atmosphere cooled down immediately.

Yan Hao and Sheng Heng’s relationship was known throughout the entire Federation, hence Sima Qing’s words just now had been implying that Yan Hao was secretly favoring the War God Legion, and it wasn’t just him, as many people in the military actually thought the same thing. However Yan Hao’s invention of Haoyue and his discovery of the phantom spirit stones had contributed significantly to the Federation and the military that, with such immense contributions, none of them dared to discredit Yan Hao without having evidence.

“General Admiral Sima, watch your words.” Yu Xiu Yuan reprimanded.

“I apologize, I spoke out of turn.” Having come back to his senses at this point, Sima Qing shut his mouth and stopped talking.

“Don’t you guys think the zergs are just taking revenge?” A middle-aged man in his fifties, wearing an army green uniform, suddenly spoke up.

“General Xiao, why do you say that?” The man who had opened his mouth to speak was called Xiao Wei. He was a level 10 mech warrior, hence his opinions were regarded highly by Yu Xiu Yuan.

“Ever since the Federation’s surprise attack on the zergs which led to the recovery of eight planets, there seems to be an illusion among the Federation’s soldiers that they can annihilate the zergs in one fell swoop, and the Sima and Divine Wind Legions, over the past several months have been killing zergs relentlessly in their respective territories to the extent that their mech warriors’ mechs are damaged beyond repair.”

And hearing this, both General Admiral Sima and General Admiral Feng’s faces took on an even more uncomfortable and unnatural hue.

“However here in the War God Legion, General Admiral Sheng has always been ordering his subordinates in a strict manner that they are to hold their positions and that they are to adhere to the previous strategic arrangement of guarding and patrolling the star fields they are stationed in without provoking the zergs. Think about it, if you were the zergs which area would you attack first?” General Xiao asked.

Yu Xiu Yuan thought about it for a moment then brought up a comparison chart of the military merits of each legion for the year, and the chart showed three bars of varying heights, with the red bar that represented the War God Legion being only a third of the other two major legions, indicating an obvious disparity.

If it had been in the past, General Admiral Sima and General Admiral Feng would have definitely been overly overjoyed that their legions had such abundant military merits. However at this moment they only found them to be extremely offensive to their eyes.

“Sure enough, capital is the source of all motivations.” General Xiao laughed softly, and this laugh, was filled with a hint of mockery.

“General Xiao.” Although Yu Xiu Yuan was dissatisfied with the current situation, the urgent priority now was to find a way to stop the zergs.

Curbing his laugh, General Xiao leaned back with his entire body and stopped talking.

“Now, let’s discuss how to deal with the cyan zergs. Since a single level 9 mech is no match for them, then we should deploy two or three level 9 mechs together to make sure that…..”

Just then, a shrill alarm suddenly rang out. In the video feeds of almost every participant, the sounds of alarms could be heard.

“What’s going on?” General Admiral Sheng looked at his subordinate who had just rushed into his office.

“Reporting to the General Admiral, a large number of zergs have suddenly appeared in Galaxy S-78, and there’s a cyan zerg among them.”

“Admiral, zergs have been detected near Planet H-09, requesting backup.”

“Planet G-11, cyan zergs spotted; Planet G-3, spatial fluctuations detected.”

Reports of zerg attacks on planets continued to come in from the various stations of the three major legions. Such large scale zerg invasion had never been seen before in three hundred years.

“Is the zerg tide about to start again?” Professor Bai asked, his voice trembling.

Causing everyone’s heart to quiver with fear, with Yu Xiu Yuan even taking action immediately, as he commanded, “Everyone, defend the defense line at all costs. We can’t let the zergs enter the Federation’s star field!”

“Yes!”
