Chapter 177.1 The Zerg Emperor dies

Editor: Jodi

Sheng Heng, along with the Zerg Emperor, had vanished into a wormhole and hadn’t appeared since then. At the beginning, Yu Xiu Yuan instructed the Federation to monitor space closely for any minor spatial fluctuations and to not let even the tiniest slip by.

However as three months passed by quickly, there were no signs of any spatial wormholes.

During this month, with the Zerg Emperor’s disappearance, the military took the opportunity to strike back fully.

And despite the fact that the Federation’s level ten mech warriors had all fallen and there were less than half of the level nine mech warriors remaining, because the absence of the Zerg Emperor had seemingly weakened the zergs’ strength, together with the fact that level nine zergs had also suffered heavy casualties in the previous wars, the Federation gradually gained an upper hand in the war.

Furthermore, with the widespread adoption of level five mimetic mechs, the combat effectiveness of the low level zergs was further diminished.

And within three months, the Federation snatched back all the planets that had been invaded and occupied by the zergs and re-established military fortresses.

Looking at the results, this was the Federation’s greatest victory in nearly three hundred years, as they not only reclaimed the planets previously occupied by the Zerg Emperor but also gradually overpowered the zergs.

With such progress, it might only take a few decades for the Federation to completely eradicate the zergs.

However, all these achievements were based on the premise that the Zerg Emperor wouldn’t appear again, thus whether the Zerg Emperor was alive or not remained the military’s most concerning issue.

And the only one who could provide them with an answer was Sheng Heng.

“Three months have passed, and with no spatial fluctuations detected anywhere in the Federation, we can’t be certain if the Zerg Emperor is dead, but Sheng Heng…” A Lieutenant General began to say something but swallowed his words when his gaze passed over General Admiral Sheng who was sitting across the conference table.

General Admiral Sheng didn’t say a word, however his grip on the blanket tightened unconsciously.

It had already been three months.

The Zerg Emperor might not necessarily be dead, but chances were definitely grim for Sheng Heng.

“Let’s talk about the reorganization of the planets.” Yu Xiu Yuan redirected the conversation.

“Although we’ve reclaimed many planets during this period, we’ve only driven the zergs out and haven’t eradicated them completely. Currently, there are ten planets in the Federation still swarming with zergs, and numerous others wandering in space. We have to rebuild our military defenses quickly to prevent another zerg invasion.”

“After three months of recuperation, most of the soldiers have recovered from their injuries and our forces are still sufficient. It’s just that only a small portion of the level five mechs have been modified into mimetic mechs, and it will take some time to fully popularize them.” Someone mentioned.

“Then deploy more mech builders responsible for modifying along with the military. Didn’t Master Yan Hao release a tutorial? All level four and above mech builders should be capable of modifying mechs. And dispatch skilled mech builders to each planet, one per planet for guidance as well. Tianxing, can you temporarily transfer some personnel for this?” Yu Xiu Yuan asked, looking at General Admiral Sheng.

When Yan Hao carried out the modification of traditional mechs to mimetic mechs, it was implemented at the War God Legion’s base, making the Legion’s mech building department the most skilled in modifying traditional mechs into mimetic mechs throughout the Federation.

“It’s doable.” General Admiral Sheng naturally had no objections.

“How is the disposal of the zerg corpses going?” Yu Xiu Yuan turned to a Lieutenant General responsible for dealing with the zerg corpses.

“Only one-third has been processed. Our transport ships can’t get too close to the sun, so the disposal is somewhat slow.”

The Zerg Emperor had inadvertently revealed in a conversation with Sheng Heng that before arriving at the Federation, it had sustained itself by devouring the bodies of its kin. This made the Federation’s Science Academy take serious notice, so they no longer disposed of the zerg corpses in space or threw them into black holes as before. Instead, they used transport ships to cast the corpses towards the sun, turning all the zergs corpses into ashes, thereby eliminating the possibility of the Zerg Emperor or any other zergs evolving through cannibalism.

The meeting continued for a while, only stopping at midnight.

After the meeting, Yu Xiu Yuan specifically called General Admiral Sheng aside: “Next month, the Federation plans to hold a memorial service for the warriors who sacrificed themselves in this battle, and the generals who joined hands in the end to stop the Zerg Emperor will be awarded Purple Medals of Honor, including Sheng Heng.”

General Admiral Sheng looked up at Yu Xiu Yuan.

“I know that as long as you don’t see Sheng Heng’s body, you won’t be willing to believe that he’s dead, so….. if you’re unwilling, I can speak to the Federation to give you his medal privately, then we will announce it a few years later.” Yu Xiu Yuan told him.

“No need.” General Admiral Sheng said, then walked away without looking back.

Yu Xiu Yuan stood still in place, sighing.

The War God Legion.

Yan Hao, Old Pang and Old Zhong were repairing a level ten mech together.

In the last battle with the Zerg Emperor, the three generals had detonated their mental energies to stop the Zerg Emperor, and the level ten mechs that they had been piloting shattered in that explosion.

After the battle ended, the soldiers who cleaned up the battlefield collected these mech fragments.

Old Pang and Old Zhong found many intact parts among the fragments of the three level ten mechs and so planned to piece together another level ten mech.

After all, building a new level ten mech wasn’t something that could be done in a short time, and with Sheng Heng missing, the two masters, worried about Yan Hao, chose the War God Legion to be the location for repairing the level ten mech.

Three months had passed, and the level ten mech was nearly repaired, but Yan Hao had always been emotionally stable and clear-headed.

He neither cried nor made trouble, and he worked energetically, hardly resembling someone who had lost his fiancé.

If it wasn’t for his adamant refusal to leave the War God Legion, the two masters would have thought that their disciple didn’t like Sheng Heng that much.

“The mech is almost fixed. Xiao Hao, inform the military department to come and collect it.” Old Zhong said after checking the system, turning to his disciple who was adjusting the arm of the mech.

“Okay.” Yan Hao nodded obediently.

Old Zhong glanced at Old Pang, who understood and said casually, “This war has basically destroyed all level ten mechs, repairing just this one will definitely not be enough.”

“Xiao Hao, you mentioned last time that you already had an idea about the level eight mimetic system? I haven’t asked you much about it during this time. When we return to Capital Star Planet, I need to study it properly and try to produce another level eight mimetic system.” Old Zhong said.

“Master, if you want to see it, I can send you the information.” Yan Hao told him.

Old Zhong frowned. Was this still unwilling to go back?

“You said you still had some doubts, right? Once we’re back, we can study it together, and maybe those doubts will be resolved.” Old Zhong told him.

“It’s already almost been resolved.” Yan Hao said.

“What?!” The two masters were shocked. How had the level eight mimetic system been conquered so quickly?

“How did you solve it?” Old Zhong, as the founder of the mimetic mech, was much more anxious than Old Pang.

“Senior told me that the first time he had a mental conversation with the Zerg Emperor, the Zerg Emperor said that ‘Victory’ was just a prototype of a biological mech. Then I started thinking, what is a biological mech?– biology usually refers to living things, so can a mech become alive as well? And if so, then how can it be made alive? Then I had some new ideas.”

Yan Hao paused for a moment, then smiled at them, “I’ll write a detailed report later and ask for both of your guidance.”

Then after he finished saying this, he lowered his head and continued to adjust the mech’s arm.

And seeing him take the initiative to mention Sheng Heng, they didn’t avoid the topic anymore and asked directly, “How much longer do you plan to stay here?”

“I promised senior that I would wait for him to come back.” Yan Hao said quietly.

The two masters exchanged glances, both sighing.

Old Zhong however, as someone who didn’t have a good temper couldn’t help ask, “So if he doesn’t come back, you’ll just stay here?”

Yan Hao stiffened, then looked up at him somewhat blankly.

And immediately feeling his heart ache, Old Zhong regretted what he had just said.

Old Pang, annoyed, glared at him. This damn old man still didn’t know how to speak properly: “Master understands you wanting to stay here to wait for Sheng Heng, but staying here isn’t a good thing for the War God Legion.”

Old Pang was quite familiar with Yan Hao’s character. If he just said that him staying here wasn’t good for him, he might not be willing to leave. However, if staying would affect others, especially those related to Sheng Heng, then he would definitely listen.

“Why?” Sure enough, Yan Hao’s expression immediately tensed up.

“I’ve told you long ago that with your talent, if you one day reach the forefront of mech building, you can’t belong to just one legion.”

Yan Hao opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, however Old Pang interrupted him before he could speak: “I know, you want to say you can continue your research in the War God Legion as well and that the results can also benefit the Federation , but as long as you stay here, whenever the War God Legion excels in areas related to mechs, especially mimetic mechs, everyone will think it’s because of you.”

“Politics is the most suspicious activity in this world. Now that the Federation has just gone through a great war, maybe they won’t do anything to the War God Legion, but what about later?” Old Zhong also said.

Yan Hao was silent for a while before he finally said: “Then, how about waiting for a year? If senior doesn’t come back in a year, I’ll leave here.”

Yan Hao’s eyes misted over when he spoke of leaving, and this was the first time Old Zhong and Old Pang saw such a sad expression in his eyes.

In the end, the two of them didn’t say anything else, acquiescing to his proposal.
