Chapter 172.2 The Zerg Emperor’s Goal

Editor: Jodi

Sheng Heng looked up immediately, then subconsciously turned to flee.

[Don’t go.]

Sheng Heng suddenly froze, then looked up in the direction the Zerg Emperor had just flown out from, thick disbelief at the bottom of his eyes.

Was it the Zerg Emperor that had spoken to him just now through its mental energy?

[You’re the Zerg Emperor] Sheng Heng responded in the same manner almost subconsciously.

[It’s me.]

By now, the Zerg Emperor’s massive body had already appeared within everyone’s line of sight, and horrified, Sheng Zhuo shouted to Sheng Heng through the internal channel anxiously, “Sheng Heng come back, the Zerg Emperor has appeared.”

Sheng Heng, however, acted as if he hadn’t heard anything and continued to remain still.

“Sheng Heng! Did you hear me, come back!” Sheng Zhuo shouted over and over again, hating that he couldn’t pilot his mech and rush out. However just as he was about to fire the energy cannon in the Zerg Emperor’s direction recklessly, irregardless of everything else, Sheng Heng, who was facing away from him suddenly raised his right hand and made a sign for him to wait.

And although Sheng Zhuo didn’t understand why he wanted him to wait, because he trusted him, he managed to calm down, however he still watched tensely, ready to fire Tianhe One’s energy cannon the moment he saw any signs of danger.

Sheng Heng knew that the Zerg Emperor’s mental energy was formidable and had even guessed that its IQ would be very high, however he had never expected that it would actually be able to speak.

[Why are you invading our planet?] Sheng Heng couldn’t help but ask.

[I thought you had already guessed it.] The Zerg Emperor had already flown to the very front of the swarm, its golden eyes staring directly at Sheng Heng, and there was probably an expression on its face, however the subtleties of cross-species micro-expressions were too difficult for Sheng Heng to understand. He could only vaguely discern that the Zerg Emperor’s facial expression was different from that of other zergs, however there was no way for him to tell what emotion was actually being expressed.

[For reproduction and evolution?] Sheng Heng asked.

[That’s right.]

[Is there a possibility of you giving up?] Sheng Heng asked, hoping against hope.

[In order to find your star field, I wandered the universe for a full hundred years, during which I consumed half of my own kind, then to recuperate, I slept for another three hundred years. I’ve spent so much time and paid such a great price to reach the Divergence State, why should I give up?] The Zerg Emperor asked.

[You are indeed powerful, but three hundred years ago, we were able to injure you seriously…..]

[You were able to injure me seriously three hundred years ago because I had expended a lot of energy wandering around the universe, otherwise do you think your low level civilization would have been able to have survived for three hundred years in the face of my kind?]

Low level civilization? Sheng Heng’s eyes flickered. Could it be that it was from a higher level civilization?

[That’s right, I come from a civilization that is one level higher than yours.] The Zerg Emperor told him.

How did he know what I was thinking? Could it be because of mental energy communication?

[That’s right, this is called thought communication. When the mental energies of two beings are connected, as long as one doesn’t shield their thoughts, both sides can know what the other is thinking.] The Zerg Emperor explained again.

Thought Shielding? This should be a method of using one’s mental energy, and if the Zerg Emperor really came from a civilization that was one level higher than the Federation’s, then that civilization’s development of mental energy had to be far superior than the Federation’s. For example, shielding their thoughts, and even wormholes…

[You are indeed very smart. All your guesses are correct.]

Seeing that it could hear whatever he was thinking, Sheng Heng simply asked directly: [What is the difference in mental energy level between us?]

[Trying to assess the difference in our strengths so you can devise a plan to defeat me?]

[Yes.] Since the other party would know anyway, Sheng Heng simply admitted it.

[Don’t waste your time, your development of mental energy is still only at the most basic level, and your mechs have only just begun to touch on the edge of bio-mechs. No matter how much you struggle, you are no match for me.]

[If you’re really so powerful, then why bother coming out to talk so much with me? Wouldn’t it be better to just launch an attack?] Sheng Heng asked.

[Because I want to give you people a chance.] The Zerg Emperor told him.

A chance?

[Didn’t you just say you wouldn’t give up on invading and occupying the Federation?]

[But I can choose not to kill all of you.]

[What do you mean?]

[I want to eat you.]

Sheng Heng’s eyes sparkled with understanding, however he wasn’t surprised. Scientists had discovered long ago that the higher the level of the zerg, the more they liked to eat humans with high level mental energy, so it made sense that the Zerg Emperor would want to eat him.

[Is this related to your method of evolution?] Sheng Heng asked.

[Indeed. I’m sure you guys have also noticed that the higher the level of the things we zergs devour, the faster we evolve, and the strength of the mental energy level is one of the criteria we use to classify the levels of species. You are probably the one with the highest mental energy level on this planet, so if I eat you, I will be able to complete the Divergence.]

[What is Divergence?]

[Human, from the beginning up until now, you have been trying to probe for information about my kind.]

Sheng Heng wasn’t in the least bit flustered at having been caught: [If you’re unwilling to tell me, then me asking is of no use.]

[True, but there’s no harm in telling you. The Divergence State is the ultimate form of evolution for my kind. Once I complete the divergence, the offspring I produce afterward will possess high level intelligence.] The Zerg Emperor explained.

Sheng Heng was stunned at first, then he looked at the orderly zergs behind the Zerg Emperor in shock. If these zergs also possessed intelligence equivalent to humans, then…..

[Impossible!] Sheng Heng refused without even thinking about it.

[Why be in such a hurry to make a decision? You’re a soldier, aren’t you? As long as I don’t stop attacking your planet, you’re bound to appear before me, so it’s only a matter of time before I eat you.]

[Then eat me on the battlefield, why waste words here?]

[That would be too much of a waste. Eating you would immediately initiate my Divergence State, which would make it so that I would need less nutrients, and if conditions are favorable, until I reproduce a certain number of offsprings, a significant portion of humanity might remain. However if you die later and I only diverge towards the end, then the humans who would have died before you died would have died worthless deaths, as they would have only served as nothing but food for these defective products.] The Zerg Emperor told him.

Sheng Heng’s fists clenched tightly, the Obscure Darkness Lance in his hand trembling uncontrollably, giving away the rage he was feeling inside.

[But there’s no rush. You can go back and think about it. Just remember that the longer you take to think about it, the more meaningless deaths there will be. It took me less than half an hour to invade and occupy the planet behind me, and at the rate of half an hour per planet, plus the time it takes me to create a wormhole, I can probably invade and occupy about six planets per day.]

This was an undisguised threat.

[If you agree, I’ll allow you to designate a planet on which you can place everyone you wish to protect and I promise to never kill them.] The Zerg Emperor said in a bestowing of favors manner.

[But the people I want to protect won’t fit on a single planet.]

[Then I allow you two planets.] The Zerg Emperor said generously.

[What I want, is to protect the entire Federation.]

[Human, don’t get ahead of yourself.]

[You say you come from a higher civilization, but you’re the only one with high intelligence in your entire race. Is it because the civilization you belong to has been destroyed completely?] The Zerg Emperor didn’t answer, however Sheng Heng sensed the slight fluctuation in mental energy.

And knowing that he had guessed correctly, he laughed out loud: [I guessed right, you’re the last of your civilization, and you are doing all this just because you want to revive your civilisation.]

[So what if I am? A low level civilization like yours should be honored that you’re nourishment for our revival.] The Zerg Emperor said in a condescending manner.

[So for all these years, in order to revive your civilization, you’ve been breeding offsprings non-stop, right? What a complete and utter breeding tool.]

[What did you just say?] The Zerg Emperor’s pitch rose violently.

[I said, you’re really a pitiful insect.] And as he was saying this, he maneuvered his mech to flee at rapid speed, calling out loudly to Sheng Zhuo as he did so, “Big brother, it’s now.”

And Sheng Zhuo, understanding immediately, had the Tianhe One warship that had already long been aimed at the Zerg Emperor start charging.

The Zerg Emperor rushed out in an agitated manner, but was forced to dodge the devastating blast from Tianhe One’s cannon. It was quick enough to dodge the attack, however the zergs behind it weren’t so fast as a large number of them were annihilated into ashes in the blast.

And taking advantage of this, Sheng Heng returned to the warship successfully, then without pausing, the two of them did a space jump and disappeared from the star field of Planet X-18 in the twinkling of an eye.

Behind them, the Zerg Emperor roared angrily, then its powerful mental energy distorting space, countless tiny spatial turbulences converged on its side, then after a few moments, a not-so-small spatial wormhole was formed, then it drilled into it headfirst.
