Chapter 168.2 Was it the Zerg Emperor?
Editor: Jodi
Every year, the Federation had a large number of soldiers who were discharged due to hand injuries, and as they could no longer pilot mechs, they blended into the civilian population to lead ordinary lives, and under the accumulation of several decades, it had caused the number of these soldiers to even surpass the number of active soldiers. Once they regained the ability to fight, it would signify a more than doubling of the Federation’s overall military strength.
A staggering number that would be too difficult to comprehend.
“Due to the urgency, I won’t be able to explain the principles, so what I’ll do now is show you how to do the modification. The internal circuits, as well as the systems of traditional level five mechs should be uniform, so the steps for modification are the same. I’ll modify a level five mech myself first, then do it all over again from a guiding perspective. If you still don’t understand, you can also download the modification tutorial from my personal homepage. Alright, let’s start the modification.”
Actually at this moment, the people who were paying the most attention to Yan Hao’s live stream were mech warriors, ordinary citizens, and students, as most of the mech builders in the Federation were busy repairing mechs in military maintenance rooms. What’s more the reason why Yan Hao had chosen to broadcast on the whole network, was to create a huge sensation, because his role, like Sheng Heng’s final shot, was to boost the Federation’s morale.
This turned out to be Yan Hao’s longest broadcast ever, one that lasted a full thirty-two hours, and this marathon session became a must-watch video for all future students learning mech building in the Federation, a classic case study in mimetic mech teaching.
Yan Hao’s broadcast also changed the battle plan that Marshal Yu and the others had just formulated, because on the day Sheng Heng reached the Sima Legion, their plan had been to kll the mutated zergs as quickly as possible, however after Sheng Heng single-handedly klled the mutated zerg in just ten minutes, the remaining two zergs suddenly seemed less threatening, then just as they were gearing up to go and k*ll the remaining two zergs, Yan Hao’s broadcast began.
Yu Xiu Yuan only watched the beginning of the live broadcast, just long enough to hear Yan Hao say that he was going to teach how to modify mimetic mechs, then immediately called Sheng Heng who was en route to the next galaxy on a warship.
“Marshal Yu, what’s wrong?” Sheng Heng asked.
“Yan Hao just started a live broadcast, and he’s teaching everyone how to modify mimetic mechs.” Yu Xiu Yuan relayed, then asked, “Based on what you know about him, is the popularization of mimetic mechs something that can really be done?”
Sheng Heng, who was currently in space and unable to access the internet except for the military’s private channels didn’t know that Yan Hao was doing a live broadcast. However even so, he still replied confidently, “Marshal Yu, if Xiao Hao has promised it, then he will definitely deliver.”
“In that case, don’t go after the remaining two mutated zergs for now. You guys come back first.” Yu Xiu Yuan instructed.
And although everyone was confused, they still turned around and headed back to the base.
And back at the base, those who had met just a few hours earlier gathered in the conference room again. The same people were present, however there were certain changes in their seating arrangements. Sheng Heng, who had previously been sitting at the end of the conference table, had now been pulled by General Xiao to sit next to him, and seeing this, the crowd wasn’t dissatisfied, especially Sheng Zhuo, who was even more pleased and proud.
“Our original plan was to k*ll the remaining three mutated zergs, and then fight to the death if the Zerg Emperor appeared, however now the situation has changed…” Yu Xiu Yuan went straight to the point. “We made this plan because there were too many zergs and because if the battle line was stretched too long, the hands of our soldiers wouldn’t be able to hold up, what’s more our fighting power would diminish first before the zergs’. However just over an hour ago, Yan Hao started a live broadcast.”
And hearing Yan Hao’s name, Sheng Heng’s eyes lit up.
“I just consulted with Old Zhong and Old Pang, the two Mech Grandmasters as well as other mech builders at the base and they all say Yan Hao’s modification tutorial is very successful, and that it’s only a matter of time before mimetic mechs become widespread.”
And at this, it wasn’t just Sheng Heng’s eyes that lit up. The eyes of the crowd in the meeting room lit up as well.
“Therefore, I’ve decided to postpone the plan to k*ll the remaining two mutated zergs. We’ll delay for a while to allow the Federation’s existing level five mechs to be modified. At least half should be upgraded first, to accumulate more strength for the Federation.” Yu Xiu Yuan said.
Previously, they didn’t have the conditions to prolong the battlefront, which was why they’d had to fight desperately, however now, with the ability to extend it, they naturally preferred this more cautious approach.
Even though there was a change in the battle plan, Sheng Heng and the other three level ten mech warriors still went to the starfield where the remaining two mutated zergs were located. However their mission this time wasn’t to kll, but to obstruct. They entangled and fought with the zergs in space without klling them, however they prevented them from getting close to any of the planets, and without the disturbance of the mutated zergs, the standoff between the Federation and the zergs seemed to have returned to the balanced state that it had been in a year ago.
Because although both sides still fought and there were still casualties on both sides, the zergs never invaded any planets again, causing the Federation’s soldiers to get a chance to breathe. What’s more soldiers with hand injuries who had once been clamoring restlessly in hospitals, now went to the mech building departments instead to urge the mech builders to hurry up with the modifications of their mechs.
Time passed, and two weeks later, just when the citizens of the Federation began to feel a return to tranquility, in the distant starry space, a massive zerg, resembling a golden lighthouse in the night, opened its deep, dark eyes.
Then raising its huge front claws, it poked into the void, and every time it poked, a small wormhole would appear, and it was only after eight such pokes in a row that it stopped.
Simultaneously, within the Federation’s starfields, eight wormholes appeared, scattered across different regions. However they all shared a common feature.
Because next to each wormhole, were either mutated zergs or their corpses. Then before anyone could react, these wormholes expanded violently, wrapped around the bodies of the mutated zergs, then swallowed them whole.
At the time the wormhole appeared, Sheng Heng was in the middle of battling a mutated zerg, and almost at the moment the wormhole materialized, he felt a powerful surge of mental energy and retreated instinctively. It was this instinctive reaction that saved him from being consumed by the wormhole.
“What was that?” General Xiao asked in horror as he looked at the wormhole that was currently disappearing.
“I don’t know, but I felt a strong mental wave coming from it.” That power- this was the first time Sheng Heng had trembled because of someone else’s mental energy.
