Chapter 159.2 Uneasy

Editor: Jodi

“The Zerg Emperor first appeared three hundred years ago, and at that time, the Federation deployed five level ten mechs before we were able to injure it severely, and this event was recorded in our history, something you’ve learned about in elementary school. However what wasn’t recorded in history is that the Federation managed to repel the Zerg Emperor not because of the extraordinary strength of those five level ten mechs, but because….. the Zerg Emperor was in a weakened state at that time.”

“Weakened state?” Yan Hao’s eyes widened in shock.

“That’s right. It isn’t known from which galaxy the Zerg Emperor tore open a wormhole in order to reach the Federation. The appearance of the zergs brought catastrophic destruction to the Federation, leading to three hundred years of continuous battle, and during this period of time, scientists have been conducting continuous research on the zergs.”

“They believe that before arriving in our Federation, the zergs might have already destroyed one or several civilizations, and that they had lurked in that civilization for who knows how many years, devouring all life until nothing was left, then when they run out of food, hunger drove them to continue their search, and wandering through the universe, the Zerg Emperor exerted its strength to create random wormholes, wormholes which eventually led them to our Federation, which is why when they first entered our Federation, they were hungry and so not as powerful as they are now. And for the Zerg Emperor who constantly created wormholes in the universe in search of new civilizations, its body couldn’t possibly be in a strong state, and from this, it is inferred that the Zerg Emperor wasn’t at its full strength at that time.”

Yan Hao nodded secretly. This hypothesis was very reasonable.

“If the Zerg Emperor who wasn’t at its full strength was already that formidable, then if has recovered over the years, then the current strength of the Federation’s military would hardly suffice to deal with it.”

Yan Hao understood: “So you want me to cure Sima Ming Xuan because you don’t know when the Zerg Emperor would wake up, and having one more level ten mech warrior will provide additional security for the Federation.”

“Exactly.” General Admiral Sheng nodded.

“I understand, let them have the medicine.” Yan Hao agreed without much hesitation. “But I don’t want to have any contact with Sima Ming Xuan, so can you please get a pharmacist to liaise between us to have them act as a go-between?  Let Sima Ming Xuan pass his health data to the pharmacist, and then the pharmacist would pass it to me.”

“You… really agree?” General Admiral Sheng was afraid that Yan Hao might be feeling pressured and so sought for confirmation again.

“I have, however in regards to what to exchange, I don’t know what is appropriate at the moment; I don’t lack anything right now.” Yan Hao scratched his head, entangled. “How about we wait for Senior to return from his mission and then let him help me decide?”

“Let Sheng Heng help you decide?”

“What’s mine is Senior’s anyway.” Yan Hao said without thinking.

General Admiral Sheng looked at Yan Hao’s face that didn’t have any ounce of hesitation on it and then at the half-built mech behind him. Even though the matter concerned his own son, he couldn’t help but feel a little sour.

This mech was being built by Yan Hao himself, and without even needing to ask, it was undoubtedly a level higher than the ‘Rebirth’ that Sheng Heng, that kid was currently piloting, and judging by its progress, it could be estimated that it would be completed in another year. Four years, he had changed mechs three times, and each had been a custom-made and designed mimetic mech. Was this treatment something ordinary people could enjoy?

“Alright, I’ll discuss it with Sheng Heng when he comes back.”

“That…. ” Yan Hao asked with some embarrassment, “Is the mission Senior on currently dangerous?”

Smiling, General Admiral Sheng told him, “It’s not dangerous. The recent raid on the zergs was very successful, and if nothing unexpected happens, there shouldn’t be any large-scale conflicts in the next few years. What’s more with you protecting him, he’ll be safe. Trust yourself.”

“I’m protecting Senior?” Yan Hao froze.

“That’s right, the mech Rebirth that you made yourself has been protecting him all this time.”

Mech warriors were the guardians of the Federation, and mech builders, in turn, were the guardians of mech warriors.

And realizing this, Yan Hao’s eyes brightened as he nodded vigorously with a radiant smile: “I’ll do my best to protect Senior.”

“Then, I’ll entrust Sheng Heng to you.” General Admiral Sheng smiled.

“En.” Yan Hao nodded solemnly once more.

“Alright, continue with your work. I won’t disturb you any further.” And saying this, General Admiral Sheng was about to end the call, however when his eyes swept over the mech behind him, he couldn’t help but ask, “Xiao Hao, what is the level of the mech you’re building?”

“A level seven mimetic mech.” Yan Hao replied.

“Level seven, will it reach level eight after it’s enhanced with phantom spirit stones? And will its power be comparable to that of a traditional level ten mech then?” If so, then the moment this mech was completed, Sheng Heng would essentially become a level ten mech warrior.

“The specific performance can only be measured after the mech is completed. The enhancement effect of the phantom spirit stone is related to the state of the mech builder’s mental energy during the enhancing process, and the higher the level of the mech, the more the enhancement effect of the phantom spirit stone can vary, so I can’t say for certain.” Yan Hao explained meticulously and rigorously.

General Admiral Sheng nodded to show that he understood, then asked, “Then do you and Old Zhong have a vision for advanced level mimetic mechs? When do you think you might be able to make them?”

“Actually, I’m still exploring the overall building of a level seven mimetic mech, so I don’t have a complete concept for a level eight mech yet.” Yan Hao told him honestly. “And the more advanced the mech, the more challenging it becomes to build it. I haven’t been studying mech for long, so I’m guessing that it will take a significant amount of time to make progress on a level eight mech.”

Yan Hao felt that he had hit a bottleneck in his ideas for mimetic mechs and that he needed to build more mechs in order to find breakthroughs through constant practice.

“Is that so?” A hint of obvious disappointment flickered across General Admiral Sheng’s face.

“I’ll work even harder.”

“You don’t have to pay attention to me or feel too much pressure.” General Admiral Sheng realized immediately that he had forgotten himself, “I’m just too eager to see a new mech that surpasses a level ten mech. You’ve actually already done very well.”

Yan Hao’s contributions to mech building over the years were already enough to stand above others, and the Purple Medal of Honor was the Federation’s acknowledgement of him. His eagerness stemmed from a desire to have a mech that was more powerful than any before, because it was only it this way that he wouldn’t be anxious about the Zerg Emperor that had yet to appear.

He didn’t know why, but for some reason he had been feeling uneasy lately, and maybe it was because the periphery of the galaxy had been too quiet lately. After the Federation’s massive k*lling of the zergs in one go, he had expected some unrest from the zergs in the periphery and had even arranged defenses accordingly for this very reason, however it had been eerily quiet; the zergs weren’t showing any reaction, as if the deaths of their kind didn’t have anything to do with them.

The mass deaths should have triggered panic and unrest, a response that was natural for any species. Or was it because they were spread across different planets and so weren’t able to sense it? He didn’t think so, because given the zergs’ ability to traverse space physically, he found it hard to believe that with such a large-scale slaughter, not even a single zerg had escaped.

Even ants had unique ways to signal their kin when they found food, let alone the zergs.
