Chapter 95.2

Editor: Princess

Was this his plan all along?!

Lull him into a false sense of security, then…

However before he could react, Gu Yuanzhao bent down, grabbed his slim ankle, and placed it on his lap. “I’m treating your wounds. Don’t move.”

“…!!”

Bai Jing’s round, fair toes curled slightly, and his delicate ankle was completely wrapped in Gu Yuanzhao’s large, warm hand. He couldn’t break free at all.

He watched in shock as the man pushed his pajama pants up from his ankle all the way to his thigh. His ears started burning.

Bai Jing’s ankle was so slender that Gu Yuanzhao could hold it with one hand.

Loosening his grip slightly, he pulled a medical device from his spatial button and ran it over the wounds carefully.

The swollen injuries stung a little as they healed, and Bai Jing subconsciously pulled back his leg, only to have it held even more firmly.

The scrapes on his knees were especially bad, with some still bleeding. Gu Yuanzhao frowned in distress, his touch becoming even gentler.

“Ah Jing, does it hurt?”

Bai Jing shook his head. The man was handling him so carefully, like he was something precious, afraid of hurting him.

Once he was done treating the wounds on Bai Jing’s legs, Gu Yuanzhao pulled the pant leg back down slowly and said, “Take off your shirt.”

“……”

He knew it was for treatment, but something about this felt strange.

Still, he took his shirt off obediently, shifted positions, and rested his chin on his arm while lying across Gu Yuanzhao’s lap.

Through the thin fabric, he could feel the warmth of Gu Yuanzhao’s body and the firm muscles of his thighs, full of power and control.

His pale back was covered in scratches and bruises, marks from fights over food.

Gu Yuanzhao treated the injuries silently, then had Bai Jing turn over and gently lifted the bangs on his forehead.

There was a large bruise right in the middle, slightly swollen. It had to be a fresh wound.

Bai Jing’s pretty teal colored eyes looked straight at him, and watching Gu Yuanzhao lower his head, tending to his wounds carefully, a strange feeling spread through his heart.

This person probably liked him, right?

They were so close, and the man’s strong scent filled the space between them, making Bai Jing’s heartbeat grow louder and louder.

Could he hear it?

Once the bruises on the corners of Bai Jing’s lips were also dealt with, Gu Yuanzhao looked away, only to meet Bai Jing’s misty, teal colored eyes, so clear they seemed freshly washed.

And in those eyes, all he saw was himself.

He ran his fingers through the teenager’s soft hair gently and smiled. “Ah Jing, get some good rest. I’ll be here with you.”

Bai Jing woke up to the smell of food.

He glanced at his phone. It was 6 p.m. He’d only slept a little over three hours.

But this was the best sleep he’d had since the apocalypse started. No nightmares, no constant tension keeping him on edge. It was like his body just knew he was in a completely safe place, and for the first time in a long while, he could fully relax.

Maybe, on some level, he really did trust Gu Yuanzhao.

Slipping on his slippers, he walked out to the living room. And the moment he stepped in, his eyes fell on Gu Yuanzhao, who was busy in the kitchen, wearing an apron and moving around like he did this all the time.

And for some reason, this scene felt oddly familiar, like he’d seen it before.

“Ah Jing, you’re awake. Dinner’s almost ready.”

Gu Yuanzhao turned his head and said: “There’s some millet porridge that’s cooled down. Have a little first.”

The kitchen setup here wasn’t as convenient as in the interstellar era, so he’d taken a while to get used to it, which had delayed things a bit.

The golden millet porridge gave off a fragrant scent, with a thin layer of rice oil floating on top. This was definitely not the cheap, stale rice from the base cafeteria—otherwise, it wouldn’t have this fresh, glossy color.

Bai Jing picked the bowl up and took a sip. The temperature was just right, the texture perfectly thick, and every grain was full and plump. There was even a subtle, comforting aroma to it that was hard to describe. In the apocalypse, this was already considered top-tier food.

He finished the small bowl quickly, warmth spreading through his stomach, making him feel completely at ease.

Then his eyes lit up as he saw Gu Yuanzhao carrying out dish after dish from the kitchen. A big bowl of braised pork ribs with potatoes, scrambled eggs with tomatoes, and a pot of steaming white rice. His Adam’s apple bobbed subconsciously.

This was the first time in a long time that he actually felt a strong craving for food.

He hadn’t eaten meat in two or three months. A meal like this was practically unheard of in the apocalypse.

Just the ribs alone, was at least two whole pounds of meat. And in the base, even the highest-ranking ability users could only exchange half a pound of meat per day, and most of that was just bones.

“Gu Yuanzhao, your cooking is seriously amazing.”

He picked up a rib, took a bite, and was instantly hooked. He couldn’t resist going in for a second piece.

Even if Gu Yuanzhao wasn’t this good at cooking, just having actual meat to eat was already more than enough to satisfy him.

“If you like it, eat as much as you want.”

Gu Yuanzhao added more ribs to Bai Jing’s bowl, and watching the way his eyes sparkled with excitement and satisfaction, his heart felt full, but also a little sore.

If he hadn’t found him…

He didn’t even want to think about this possibility.

He swore silently in his heart— no matter how bad things got in this world, he was going to make sure Bai Jing was well-fed and taken care of.

After they finished eating, Bai Jing got up to wash the dishes, but Gu Yuanzhao’s strong arm pressed him back into his seat. “I’ll do it.”

Then he cleared the table and took the dishes to the sink.

However halfway through washing them, he accidentally broke one.

Luckily, Bai Jing was focused on absorbing the energy from a zombie crystal and so didn’t notice.

He glanced back at him and secretly let out a sigh of relief.

This was his first time washing dishes. These things were way too fragile, so it was normal to break one, right?

This was what he told himself.

Then, the Imperial Major General’s hand slipped again.

Another one shattered.

Forget it, he should just buy new ones tomorrow.
