Chapter 99.1
Editor: Princess
Before the words even finished leaving her mouth, a dark shadow swept down from the ceiling like the wind, its sharp claws slashing across her neck, and blood immediately spurted out.
Guan Yue clutched her neck in agony, using both her hands and feet to scramble forward desperately, while the zombie behind her let out a sinister cackle, its sharp claws slashing across her body from time to time, leaving fresh wounds. Listening to the girl’s terrified screams, it seemed to revel in the pleasure of toying with its prey.
The wounds on Guan Yue’s neck and body weren’t fatal, but they caused her unbearable pain.
Her blood was draining from her body, her face turning deathly pale. She reached out, trying to grab the shelf in front of her, but her strength failed her, and she collapsed weakly to the ground.
Even so, she didn’t dare stop. She clawed at the ground with both hands, struggling to crawl forward, leaving a long trail of blood behind her.
Yu Kai and Qiao Lan, who were responsible for protecting Guan Yue, weren’t far away. The moment they heard the commotion, they rushed over. Qiao Lan immediately hoisted Guan Yue onto her back— as long as she hadn’t been bitten, she could still be saved!
Yu Kai gritted his teeth and hurled fireballs from his hands one after another, sparks flying everywhere, however they didn’t even graze the zombie’s clothes.
What kind of zombie was this? Its speed was terrifyingly fast!
The zombie crouched on the ceiling, letting out a few mocking chuckles as if laughing at their incompetence, then waved its hand and sent several ice blades flying.
“Ahhh—!”
Like swords, the ice blades pierced straight through Yu Kai’s arms and legs. The searing pain made him howl in agony as he stumbled to the ground, unable to move his limbs anymore.
“Ice-type ability!”
Bai Jing’s expression grew serious. After devouring so many supernatural ability users, this zombie had indeed evolved, and its level had already reached six!
A level six zombie!
In the early days of the apocalypse, such a creature was practically invincible. The highest level anyone had heard of so far was only level four.
The previous survivors who had encountered this thing probably had no idea how strong it actually was. Otherwise, the base wouldn’t have sent them here again, because no supernatural ability user could survive an encounter with this monster.
“This is a level six zombie! Run!”
Bai Jing shielded the others as they retreated, firing his gun repeatedly to block the zombie’s movements and buy them more time.
Desperate to escape, everyone threw away their backpacks full of food without hesitation, just to gain a few extra seconds—how ironic.
If only they had left a little sooner, maybe this wouldn’t have happened.
Yang Wenshuo and Gu Yuanzhao quickly reached Yu Kai’s side. One of them hoisted Yu Kai onto his back while the other drew an energy sword and engaged the level six zombie.
A dazzling white light flared as the energy sword activated. Gu Yuanzhao moved as fast as lightning, slicing through the air with a sharp whistle. Even the copper-sinewed, iron-boned level six zombie felt a trace of fear.
White sword light swept across the space like a tide. Gu Yuanzhao’s speed was no less than the zombie’s, and the two chased each other for a while. Then, with a swift ‘shing’, Gu Yuanzhao’s sword sliced off one of the zombie’s fingers, which enraged it completely.
The level six zombie let out a vicious screech then shot forward like a black shadow.
It no longer wanted to toy with its prey. It wanted to kill them all!
Qiao Lan, carrying the unconscious Guan Yue, was just about to reach the main group when a sudden lightning strike shot down from above. Then her whole body went numb and she crashed to the ground.
Guan Yue was thrown to the side, her neck impaled by the zombie’s claws—her life was completely snuffed out.
This level six zombie actually had both lightning and ice abilities!
A strong sense of danger surged through Qiao Lan. She rolled to the side at the last second, raising her dagger just in time to block the zombie’s gaping, bloodstained mouth.
Its jagged fangs were only an inch from her throat. The veins in her arms bulged as she clenched her teeth, barely managing to hold it back. The creature’s strength was overwhelming—she couldn’t hold on much longer!
Just at the critical moment, a flash of white energy swept through the air, forcing the level six zombie to release its prey and lunge toward the others at the entrance.
Yang Wenshuo, still carrying the limp Yu Kai, ran for his life. However suddenly, a gust of wind rushed toward him from behind, thick with the zombie’s putrid stench. Without thinking, he flung Yu Kai forward into his arms and rolled to the ground, narrowly dodging the incoming ice blades.
Gu Yuanzhao followed close behind. The level six zombie moved terrifyingly fast, because within moments, it had reached the entrance of the supermarket.
Many people were running toward the underground passage, breathing sighs of relief, thinking they had escaped, only for a barrage of lightning to rain down from above. The ones caught in the strike instantly went numb, collapsing helplessly to the ground.
Bai Jing rolled aside, dodging the lightning, however before he could catch his breath, several ice blades came hurtling toward them. In a split second, he fired his energy gun, shattering each and every one before they could reach their targets.
Everyone was stunned—what kind of speed and marksmanship was this?!
Shards of ice scattered through the air like snowflakes. The level six zombie roared in fury, then lunged straight at Bai Jing.
However the teenager showed no trace of fear. He just aimed his energy gun at the creature, firing without hesitation.
Two snipers supported him from a distance, forcing the zombie to twist its body mid-air to dodge. It landed on the ceiling again, glaring at Bai Jing with pure hatred.
If not for this person, it would have already slaughtered them all!
Bai Jing glanced at Yang Wenshuo and quickly made a gesture—‘You guys go first’. Then he and Gu Yuanzhao positioned themselves, one in front and one behind, boxing the zombie in.
Yang Wenshuo clenched his fists. Now that Guan Yue was dead and Yu Kai was gravely injured, with Huang Tianhao’s abilities still not recovered, and the soldiers unable to fight a level six zombie, staying here would only be a burden.
But this zombie was unbelievably strong. If Bai Jing and Gu Yuanzhao couldn’t defeat it…
His fists trembled with frustration and regret.
As the team leader, he should have ordered an immediate retreat the moment Bai Jing sounded the alarm, instead of hesitating and wasting precious time.
This was his fault.
If anything happened to those two, he would never forgive himself.
