Chapter 93.2 Extra 2
Editor: Jodi
“Ah Jing…”
Gu Yuanzhao reached out, wanting to grab the teenager’s hand, however Bai Jing sidestepped hurriedly, dodging with sharp precision. A gleaming dagger was raised in front of him, his teal colored eyes filled with icy wariness. It was only when Gu Yuanzhao stepped back two paces helplessly that he lowered the blade.
The registration officer picked up a form, inputting data as he repeated aloud, “Bai Jing, 16 years old, from City A, has killed zombies, ability type… Sense Perception ability? What kind of ability is that?”
His expression was full of doubt.
In general, abilities were classified into three types: basic abilities, offensive abilities, and support abilities.
Basic abilities referred to enhancements in speed, strength, vision, hearing, or physical endurance—essentially, bodily evolutions. This was the most common type, but since they lacked large-scale destructive power, they weren’t highly valued.
Offensive abilities included fire, lightning, ice, wind, and other elemental powers. They were highly destructive, rare among survivors, and considered top-tier talents that every base sought after.
Support abilities, on the other hand, included spatial manipulation, psychic powers, and healing abilities. These were even rarer. While not directly combat-focused, they were indispensable.
Lowering his head, Bai Jing coughed lightly. “It’s a basic ability. I can sense the activity level of zombie crystal cores within a twenty-meter range.”
The registration officer instantly lost interest the moment he heard it was just a basic ability. And when he heard that the range was only twenty meters, he scoffed. “What a useless skill.”
He didn’t doubt the teenager’s words, though. Because a niche ability like that, who would even bother making it up?
Gu Yuanzhao stood by, staring at the teenager without blinking. Sixteen years old…
Could it be that he had traveled back to Bai Jing’s past, when he was sixteen?
He had previously looked into Bai Jing’s records—everything before the age of eighteen was a blank slate. At the time, he had assumed it was because the slums lacked proper documentation, but now it seemed like that wasn’t the case.
If they really had traveled back in time, then the singularity of time wouldn’t allow two Bai Jings to exist simultaneously.
Which meant that this sixteen-year-old Bai Jing was the merged version of both timelines. The only mystery was, why didn’t he have any memories?
Another inspector standing nearby sprayed disinfectant, then put on gloves before conducting a full-body inspection. And grabbing Bai Jing’s backpack, he said, “Once you enter the base, all personal supplies must be surrendered. The base will distribute food to you. Now, let go.”
Bai Jing’s grip on the strap tightened. After a long pause, he finally let go under the man’s urging.
The inspector looked at the zombie-stained backpack with clear disgust. He unzipped it with his gloved hands and found only two bottles of mineral water, two packs of compressed biscuits, and a single packet of instant noodles. He rolled his eyes.
Judging by how protective the kid had been, he had expected some valuable supplies. Turns out, it was just this little bit of food.
Still, he confiscated the food without hesitation and tossed the dirty backpack back to Bai Jing.
Bai Jing reached out to take it, his lowered gaze making it impossible to read his expression.
Food was scarce in the apocalypse, and just for these few rations, he had been ambushed countless times. And the ones trying to steal from him weren’t zombies or ability users, they were just other desperate survivors, no different from him.
He couldn’t bring himself to kill them, but he had barely managed to hold onto his food, and he had gotten injured because of it.
He pressed his chapped lips together. If he had known things would turn out like this, he would’ve just drunk another bottle of water instead of saving it so carefully.
Gu Yuanzhao had been watching his every move. When he saw Bai Jing’s reluctant gaze lingering on the food that was taken, his heart twisted painfully. He couldn’t even begin to imagine what kind of life the teenager had been living before this.
He pressed the spatial button on his wrist, and from within, pulled out two nutrient solutions and two bottles of water.
The two inspectors who were standing nearby gasped immediately. “Spatial ability!”
In the early days of the apocalypse, spatial abilities were extremely rare, and missions to gather supplies relied heavily on them.
No wonder this guy didn’t seem like someone who had struggled through the apocalypse—his spatial storage had to be packed with supplies.
They had to make sure this guy stayed in the base!
“Ah Jing…” Gu Yuanzhao looked at the teenager with heartache. “Here.”
Bai Jing’s dry throat moved as he swallowed unconsciously. His gaze shifted away with difficulty. “But… I don’t know you.”
“That’s okay. I feel like we were meant to meet. Can we be friends?”
Then considering Bai Jing’s personality, he added, “How about this? Think of these as a loan. You can pay me back later.”
“…Thank you.”
The teenager’s long eyelashes fluttered like butterfly wings. He took the nutrient solution and water hurriedly, then drank them down without hesitation.
The nutrient solution eased his hunger almost instantly, spreading warmth through his stomach. Even the flavor—mango—was his favorite.
He glanced at Gu Yuanzhao in a daze. How did he know what he liked?
Maybe… it was just a coincidence.
The registration officer entered Bai Jing’s information into the system. A yellow card popped out from the nearby machine.
“This is your temporary ID. It grants you one month of free residence. Every day, you can use it to exchange for five wheat cakes, half a pound of rice, or white flour at the cafeteria. Anything else, you’ll have to find on your own.”
“Ability users have to complete at least three missions a month. Hah, if you fake your ability, then you’re in for a nasty surprise.”
