Chapter 99.2
Editor: Princess
Gu Yuanzhao kicked the lunging zombie away, dodging a flurry of ice blades in the next moment. Then his voice, cold snapped at the others, “What are you still standing around here for? Get out of here! Unless you want to die?!”
Yang Wenshuo jolted. Now wasn’t the time for regrets—his responsibility as team leader was to get the others out safely.
He handed the injured Yu Kai to Huang Tianhao and ordered in a low voice, “Retreat immediately! Qiao Lan and the soldiers, clear the zombies outside. I’ll cover the rear with the snipers.”
Everyone responded, their hearts heavy with guilt.
If they had listened to Bai Jing earlier, they would have escaped already— and they’d still have their backpacks full of supplies.
Their own greed had cost them everything. Worse, they had put Bai Jing and Gu Yuanzhao in mortal danger.
The soldiers, in particular, wished they could slap themselves.
Bai Jing had saved them multiple times, yet when it mattered most, they ignored his warning. They had failed him.
Seeing its prey slipping away, the level six zombie let out a furious howl and tried to give chase, only to be blocked by Yang Wenshuo’s ice wall.
At that moment, Gu Yuanzhao’s sword light flashed down like a meteor. It could only watch in frustration as the others fled, screeching in helpless rage.
Qiao Lan walked along the underground passage to the surface, and the few zombies wandering by the vehicles immediately rushed over, however she sliced their heads off with wind blades.
Then taking advantage of the fact that the zombies hadn’t gathered yet, everyone quickly got into the car, slammed the gas pedal, and sped away.
Zombies by the roadside, smelling the scent of the living, quickly gathered. However the dense sound of gunfire rang out. The soldiers, their eyes filled with tears, fired at their heads like madmen.
“Go to hell, all of you—!”
Squad leader Hu Kun had a ruthless expression on his face. Standing at the control panel, he aimed the armored off-road vehicle’s cannon at the zombies ahead.
Then a deafening explosion shattered the air. The road itself was blasted into a crater and the surrounding zombies were blown to bits, their heads crushed, covering the ground with a thick layer of gore. The stench was overwhelming.

After confirming that they had gone far enough, Gu Yuanzhao lured the zombie outside. The supermarket was packed with shelves, so the space was too cramped to fight properly.
However the level six zombie also wanted to go out.
Previously, a team of supernatural ability users had fought to the death to trap it inside this supermarket, but it knew that outside, it was the king of zombies, capable of commanding countless lower-level ones!
Once that happened, it could take its revenge.
Those two damn supernatural ability users. It was going to tear their flesh apart, piece by piece!
The level six zombie let out a few eerie, cackling laughs, licking the blood at the corner of its mouth, excited that they were delivering themselves to death.
Gu Yuanzhao pulled Bai Jing along through the underground passage to the surface. The level six zombie leaped out after them, landed on top of a building, then let out a low, guttural roar.
It was a sound only zombies could understand.
And hearing this roar, the zombies on the road began to gather and let out more howls, summoning their kind.
In no time, an overwhelming horde of zombies surged in from both sides of the street, a tide of them stretching as far as the eye could see.
Bai Jing even wondered if the entire zombie population of H City had been called here, because the sheer number was beyond comprehension— even a zombie tide wasn’t this terrifying.
With just the two of them, even if they fought until they collapsed, they wouldn’t be able to kill them all!
But despite this, Bai Jing didn’t feel nervous. It was as if he had absolute trust in the man beside him.
He looked at Gu Yuanzhao. The latter gave him a reassuring smile, then pressed the spatial button on his chest.
In an instant, a towering 20-meter-tall silver-white mecha appeared on the ground. Every inch of its design was sleek to perfection, its metallic sheen gleaming under the sunlight, like the most exquisite work of art.
Gu Yuanzhao reached out his hand to the teenager. Bai Jing smiled and placed his hand in the man’s large palm. Then the two of them entered the cockpit.
The silver-white mecha shot into the sky, deploying energy shields on both sides of the road. Then, the cannons on its shoulders rose upright, launching twenty-four high-energy particle blasts in different directions—
Massive explosions erupted, the devastating energy waves instantly leveling the entire road, reducing every zombie to ash. Only their solid crystal cores remained, scattered on the ground like pearls in the dust.
The level six zombie’s mocking grin froze, then it turned into a black blur, fleeing at full speed, while launching lightning strikes and ice blades at the mecha.
However the silver-white mecha streaked through the air like a flash of light, effortlessly dodging the attacks. Then with a single slash of its long sword, it severed the zombie’s shoulder. Another swing—its head was cleaved off entirely!
Against the S-Class mecha, ‘Silverlight’, the level six zombie never stood a chance.
“Amazing.”
Bai Jing’s eyes sparkled as he looked at Gu Yuanzhao. For some reason, the moment he saw this mecha, he felt a strong attachment to it. What’s more sitting in the co-pilot’s seat even felt strangely familiar.
Gu Yuanzhao turned his head and looked at the teenager with indulgence. “If you like it, this seat will always be yours.”
Silverlight’s co-pilot seat would forever belong to Bai Jing. No one else would ever take that place.
After collecting the level six zombie’s crystal core, the mecha ascended again, moving forward while continuously firing high-energy particle blasts at the ground. Very soon, the entire road was cleared of zombies, leaving only a thick layer of ash behind.
The wind from the mecha’s wings swept up, blowing the dust away. Then Bai Jing and Gu Yuanzhao put on gloves and began collecting the zombie crystal cores.
There were simply too many, so after picking for a while, they gave up on the level one cores and focused only on collecting level two and level three ones. The rest would be left for the base to retrieve.
Bai Jing’s abilities had just reached level two, so level one crystal cores weren’t much use to him anymore.
After gathering hundreds of level two and level three crystal cores, they took a short rest before returning to the underground supermarket.
They collected a lot of food from the front shelves— biscuits, instant noodles, candies, chocolates. Then, they moved to the drinks section, storing large amounts of mineral water and other beverages into their space storage.
Next was the grain and oil section. They swept up all the unopened bags of rice, millet, black rice, sorghum rice, and various beans. Then, they headed to the frozen section.
They stored away frozen dumplings, glutinous rice balls, and even some beef and lamb slices— perfect for hot pot.
After finishing, they found the cold storage area at the back of the supermarket.
Frozen meat kept below -18°C could be preserved for 10 to 12 months. And since this was only the first year of the apocalypse, the meat was still edible, though not as fresh.
However this wasn’t a problem. The food storage technology from the interstellar era was far more advanced. Once stored in the spatial button’s refrigerated chamber, the meat would quickly regain its freshness.
The cold storage was fully stocked. Gu Yuanzhao took mostly beef, only picking select cuts of pork—ribs, tenderloin, and marrow bones for soup.
Finally, they grabbed some daily necessities— things they would keep for themselves.
As for what they would hand over to the base, he casually swept a few aisles worth of food into storage.
Most of the zombies on the roads had already been cleared, so the base could come and take the rest whenever they wanted.
Before leaving, they gathered all the abandoned backpacks of their fallen comrades, as well as the clothes and nameplates of the supernatural ability users who had died.
As for Guan Yue, she had already started turning into a zombie. There was no choice. Gu Yuanzhao had to kill her and take her nameplate.
Then the silver-white mecha transformed into a streak of light, shooting into the sky at a speed too fast for the naked eye to follow, heading straight back to the base.
