Chapter 97.2
Editor: Jodi
Bai Jing took one look at the zombie horde ahead and immediately knew this was a bad idea.
Switching seats in the middle of a zombie swarm was clearly asking for trouble. What’s more even if they managed it, they’d lose control of the vehicle for at least a few seconds, and that was more than enough time for zombies to overwhelm them.
Not to mention the military unit behind them—if the situation got worse, they’d be in even more danger.
Several zombies had already climbed onto the armored vehicle. The snipers were on the verge of being overwhelmed!
Bai Jing and Gu Yuanzhao exchanged a look. “No need. We’ll go up instead.”
Then without waiting for a response, Bai Jing rolled down the window just a crack, raised his energy gun, and pulled the trigger.
Two crisp gunshots rang out, and the two zombies lunging at the snipers had their heads blasted apart, their rotting bodies tumbling off the vehicle.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye, the precision and speed of Bai Jing’s shots almost inhuman.
The two snipers shot Bai Jing a grateful look. If not for him, they would have been infected in the next second.
The hesitation in the heart of Yang Wen Shuo, who witnessed the whole thing disappeared instantly. “Huang Tianhao, get down! Switch!”
“Got it!”
Huang Tianhao was pale, drenched in sweat. Overusing his ability had left him completely drained. His vision blurred as he fumbled to untie the rope securing him. He barely managed to let go before his body gave out, causing him to slip off the roof.
Yang Wen Shuo caught him just in time, helping Qiao Lan move him into a seat and forcing some water and food into his hands.
There was no time to rest. The zombies were still closing in.
Gu Yuanzhao climbed up first, followed closely by Bai Jing.
The moment Gu Yuanzhao activated his energy sword, a dazzling blade of light extended nearly three meters in length, and with a single swing, he cut down dozens of zombies in one go.
Meanwhile, Bai Jing’s sense perception ability locked onto any zombies that slipped through the cracks. Each shot he fired was precise and lethal—every single bullet hit its mark, blowing zombie heads apart with terrifying efficiency.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The gunfire was relentless, yet strangely controlled—there was no wasted movement, no unnecessary shots. Bai Jing’s hands were steady, his reflexes razor-sharp.
His supernatural ability wasn’t just helping him detect zombies. It was actively guiding his every move, making him a one-man sniper squad.
Meanwhile Gu Yuanzhao kicked away a zombie trying to climb onto the roof, the sheer force of the blow sending its head flying clean off.
At the same time, Bai Jing kept an eye on the armored vehicle, picking off threats before they could get too close.
The two worked in perfect sync, and within minutes, the entire zombie wave had been wiped out.
They even had time to lean against the railing and catch their breath.
“…Holy shit.”
Yu Kai stared at the pile of corpses outside, completely dumbfounded.
He had assumed Bai Jing was dead weight, but after watching him shoot? He had to eat his own words.
His marksmanship was on another level. No one else in the base could compare.
Yang Wen Shuo was just as stunned. These two… In terms of zombie-killing efficiency, were stronger than even him, a level three ability user.
And this, was their first mission?
On top of that, their weapons… He’d never seen anything this advanced before.
Who the hell were they? They were simply unbelievable.
Forty minutes later, they reached the center of H City.
According to their map, the large supermarket they were heading to was still about twenty kilometers away.
Bai Jing’s sense perception ability detected something new—level-two zombies.
Unlike level-one zombies, which were slow and brainless, level-two zombies had increased strength. If one of them got close, they could easily tear through the Humvee’s reinforced plating.
Hence they had to be eliminated before they got too close.
Bai Jing pressed his walkie-talkie, connecting to the snipers. “We’ve got level-two zombies incoming. If you trust me, follow my lead.”
The snipers didn’t even hesitate. “Understood.”
After what they had just witnessed, how could they not trust him?
Bai Jing adjusted his aim and fired, hitting a zombie three meters ahead with pinpoint accuracy.
Without pausing, he began calling out coordinates: “Target 1—left, 11 o’clock, 15 meters.”
“Roger!”
Bang! A perfect headshot.
“Target 2—right, 2 o’clock, 14 meters.”
“Got it!”
The snipers were seasoned professionals, but even they were in awe.
Bai Jing’s coordinates were flawless. There was no need for them to adjust, no need to second-guess. Just aim and shoot.
Fuck, what sort of supernatural ability was this? It was actually so powerful!
Soon, under Bai Jing’s coordination, and with Gu Yuanzhao cutting down zombies left and right, the entire horde was neutralized in record time.
There were no injuries and no damage to the vehicles.
Once again, Bai Jing had proved that his sense perception ability wasn’t some useless gimmick. It was an indispensable tool for survival.
As they neared their destination, they slowed down.
Yang Wen Shuo checked the map and directed Yu Kai to park near an old shopping mall, close to the underground supermarket.
Then before zombies could gather, the seven of them got out and approached the building.
The place was half-collapsed, its structure unstable. A quick check revealed that the elevator was broken, and the underground entrance was blocked by rubble. The only way forward was to blow it open.
But that would attract every zombie within a five-kilometer radius.
Guan Yue bit her lips, then said softly, “I’ll plant the explosives. You guys handle the zombies.”
Normally, Bai Jing would be given this task, but after seeing his combat skills, she knew she was the weakest link now.
Her spatial ability was only level one, barely twenty cubic meters—not even comparable to Gu Yuanzhao’s.
Still, the thought of heading into that dark, unstable space made her uneasy.
However before she could say anything else, Huang Tianhao, who had just regained some strength, sneered.
“Why should you go? If anyone should do it, it’s that pretty boy over there.”
The whole team went silent.
Huang Tianhao, oblivious, kept going. “What? It’s not like he’s good for anything else. That pathetic excuse of an ability—”
“Shut the hell up!”
Yang Wen Shuo cut him off instantly, his brows furrowed so tight they could kill.
This idiot had just passed out from exhausting his supernatural ability, only just woke up, and had no clue how strong the other side was. If he pissed these two off because of this…
“Captain, what are you—??”
Huang Tianhao stared at Yang Wen Shuo in shock. Their captain actually cursed at him—over Bai Jing?!
Even Yu Kai yanked on his arm, desperate to shut him up. Damn it, this dumbass!!
Bai Jing hooked his finger lightly at his waist, and in a flash, the energy gun spun in his hand. The sleek silver barrel aimed straight at Huang Tianhao. Before anyone could react, he pulled the trigger.
The air bullet shot out at an insane speed, the sheer velocity kicking up a fiery gust, grazing past Huang Tianhao’s hair before piercing straight through a second-tier zombie’s skull twenty meters away!
The zombie’s head exploded on the spot, and a crystal core—about the size of a thumb—rolled onto the ground with a soft clatter.
In that split second, Huang Tianhao didn’t even have time to react. His eyes widened in sheer terror, his whole body stiff as a board, frozen like a goddamn statue.
A few strands of his hair drifted down to the ground, making it painfully clear—if that bullet had been just a fraction higher, his head would’ve been blown wide open!!
Bai Jing put away his energy gun, stepped up to him, and said coldly, “This supernatural ability—do you still think it’s impressive?”
