Chapter 71

Editor: Jodi

The next morning, Lin Qin and Meng Chao, having an early scene to film, went to the set early.

And about an hour later, Meng Ke arrived, however he wasn’t in high spirits, looking dejected as if he had suffered a great blow.

When Meng Chao had a break, Meng Ke approached him, “I’m going back this afternoon.”

With Han Zhi gone, he was also planning to leave too. Using his brother and then leaving, him even bothering to tell Meng Chao already showed that he loved this little brother of his.

Meng Chao gave him a sidelong glance then teased, “What? Your plan to pretend to be drunk yesterday didn’t work?”

Hearing this, Meng Ke sighed deeply, “Don’t talk about it, don’t talk about it.” His expression was one of not wanting to talk about it further, looking a little disheartened.

Meng Chao let out a tsk, sympathizing, “Really pitiful.”

However in the next second, the expression on Meng Ke’s face changed to one of eagerness, “Do you have any work after this movie is finished?”

Immediately going on the alert, Meng Chao moved away from him a little.

But Meng Ke continued to move closer to him.

Meng Chao pushed him away, maintaining a certain distance, “If you have something to say just say it, don’t be clingy.”

“First, tell me if you have any work lined up after this?” Meng Ke insisted, waiting for a definitive answer.

Meng Chao stared at him for a long time then suddenly snorted, “I know what you want to do, so I’ll just give you three words……”

Meng Ke’s heart tightened, “Don’t say it!”

Meng Chao deliberately slowed down, enunciating each word, “I, don’t, have, time!” (It’s three words in Chinese, but in English it’s four because of the ‘have – time’.)

“I had your agent send me your schedule. After this movie you’re going to be resting!!” Meng Ke accused.

He just wanted Meng Chao to return to the company so he could free up time to pursue his wife. If he didn’t pursue him more aggressively, his wife would run away.

“It’s true that I’ll be resting.” Meng Chao admitted readily, “But resting doesn’t mean I have nothing to do.”

“Is there something more important than me chasing after my wife?” Meng Ke asked back, his tone urgent.

Meng Chao laughed, “Of course there is. I’m taking my wife on a vacation.”

Meng Ke vomited three litres of blood. So what if you have a wife!!

Meng Chao patted his shoulder, “Perhaps you can ask the old man to take charge himself.”

Meng Ke laughed dryly, “Do you think it’s possible?” If the old man knew he was neglecting work to chase his wife he’d probably break his legs.

“Then there’s nothing I can do.” Meng Chao shrugged, showing his helplessness.

Meng Ke still wanted to continue persuading him, however the crew started calling for him.

“Anyway, good luck!” Meng Chao encouraged with a smile then went back to filming, leaving Meng Ke choking in place.

In the afternoon Meng Ke was called back by an urgent call from his secretary, and so temporarily halted his efforts to convince Meng Chao to return to the company.

However he didn’t give up, and over the next two months, he sent messages to Meng Chao everyday. The content? Asking him repeatedly if he was willing to return to the company.

As the rejections piled up, the tone behind Meng Ke’s messages became even more sad, with Meng Chao reading them every day with relish.

In the end, feeling pity for his brother, the day before ‘Dark War’ wrapped up, he finally agreed to return to the company, but only for half a month.

Meng Ke excitedly transferred a large sum of money to Meng Chao.

Meng Ke: “Take this money. It’s the travel fund for you and Lin Qin. Buy whatever you want and if it’s not enough, ask me for more.”

Meng Chao: “If you’re going to transfer money to me in the future, send it to this card number. xx Bank: xxx…”

Meng Ke: “When did you get a new card?”

Meng Chao: “This is Lin Qin’s card.”

Meng Ke: “…”

Meng Chao: “From now on, all my money will be Lin Qin’s money.”

Meng Ke: “…”

Meng Chao: “You can also give all your inheritance to Han Zhi.”

Meng Ke: “…”

Meng Chao: “Oh, I forgot, you haven’t pursued Han Zhi yet.”

Meng Ke: “…”

Meng Chao: “I’m planning to propose to Lin Qin during this trip. Big brother, give me some advice. Where do you think is the romantic place to propose and where should we hold the wedding?”

Meng Ke: “…”

Faced with Meng Chao’s show-off, Meng Ke slammed his phone down angrily and stopped replying. So what if he had gotten his wife? Believe it or not just give him a few days and he could also win Han Zhi’s heart! He would also transfer all his assets to Han Zhi and propose to him!

Seeing no further replies from Meng Ke, Meng Chao put his phone away with a smile then his gaze, filled with infinite gentleness fell on Lin Qin who was still filming a night scene for ‘Dark War’.

Tonight’s scene was the last one for ‘Dark War’.

Time had flown by and more than five months had passed, with the weather having shifted from scorching hot to biting cold, making it so that there was also a heavy flurry of snow in the studio today.

There was heating inside the studio, hence it wasn’t very cold and Lin Qin, dressed in a thin shirt, was fully immersed in his role, his every movement, every expression no longer his, but that of the character from ‘Dark War’.

It was said that a person who was serious was the most handsome, and Meng Chao felt this saying was very apt for Lin Qin. Anyways he had already been charmed completely by Lin Qin, his eyes and heart filled with only him, leaving no room for anyone else.

The scene was between Lin Qin and the second male lead, Huang Wenkai. Huang Wenkai, as an undercover agent embedded in the police force, finally showed his true colors and absconded in the dead of the night.

Lin Qin discovered Huang Wenkai’s trail and followed him.

Huang Wenkai’s acting wasn’t very good, however the director couldn’t refuse this actor because he had been inserted in by the investors. Fortunately, Lin Qin and Meng Chao’s skilled acting could lead other actors into their roles, and the director, being well-known, was able to coach them, which prevented Huang Wenkai from being a liability.

However Huang Wenkai was in too much of a poor state tonight as he had caused them to have more than ten NGs.

He just couldn’t deliver the feeling the director wanted. If it wasn’t that he was forgetting his lines, then he was missing marks and even interrupting Lin Qin’s lines. Anyways it was hard to explain in just a few words.

No one had expected that a movie that had been going smoothly up until now would get stuck on the last scene, frustrating the director so much that he had started yelling at Huang Wenkai. They were originally supposed to wrap up by ten o’clock, however the filming had been dragged to one in the morning because of Huang Wenkai, and they still hadn’t finished the scene.

Everyone in the crew was exhausted and sleepy after a long day’s work, yet the key person delaying their leaving was still not getting it right. The crew could only curse quietly and muster their energy to continue filming whenever the director shouted ‘action’.

Lin Qin in particular, was the most exhausted. With Huang Wenkai unable to get through the scene, he had to keep repeating it. If it had been someone with a shorter temper, they would have exploded by now.

However Lin Qin was extremely patient, delivering a perfect performance in each take, making it so that the director felt distressed for him in the end.

“Take a break!” The director said with a dark expression after yet another NG.
