Chapter 28.1

As the final exams approached, students became quite nervous. They paid more attention in class than usual, and after class, if they didn’t understand something, they would stop the teacher to ask for clarification.

Fu Shen was tidying up his books when a girl with long hair walked over to him, saying politely, “Fu Shen, there’s a question I don’t quite understand. Can I ask you about it?”

This sentence sounded familiar to Fu Shen. He raised an eyebrow, “Which question?”

The girl sat down beside him and handed him a piece of paper paper with a math problem written on it.

Fu Shen glanced at it briefly and began explaining the solution to her.

Meanwhile, Pi Xiu and the two others watched quietly as they chatted in their group chat.

[Pi Xiu]: She seems to be the top student in our class. I just looked at her question, it’s not that difficult.

[Li Fengyu]: Yeah, it’s not that difficult. Technically, she shouldn’t have any trouble with it.

[Liang Cheng]: Asking for help is fake, getting closer is real.

[Pi Xiu]: Huh? What are you saying?

[Li Fengyu]: Ah Cheng means she’s interested in Shen Ge.

[Pi Xiu]: Then what’s the point of asking such dumb questions? Doesn’t that make her look foolish? Will Shen Ge actually pay attention to a girl who seems not so smart?

[Li Fengyu]: If even you can see it, then Shen Ge can as well. This is a form of love strategy, to elicit sympathy by showing vulnerability, to trigger the protective instinct and to gain their attention. If Shen Ge is open to further development, he’ll give a positive signal. If not…

Before the conversation could continue, Fu Shen next to them, finished explaining and without any mercy, said, “Classmate, there are similar examples in the textbook. Pay closer attention in class next time.”

The girl: “….”

[Pi Xiu]: Tsk, Shen Ge really doesn’t know how to appreciate beauty.

[Li Fengyu]: Hehe, it depends on who the person of appreciation is.

Both of them quickly put away their phones as Liang Cheng went over and helped Fu Shen leave the classroom.

Pi Xiu complained under his breath, “Seems like asking questions is truly useless. It only makes you seem less intelligent. The top student falling for the not-so-bright student only happens in idol dramas.”

Fu Shen’s expression stiffened slightly, and he replied in a cool tone, “Asking questions also depends on the technique.”

“Oh? Please enlighten us, Shen Ge.” Pi Xiu said in a strange tone.

Fu Shen couldn’t be bothered to respond to him.

The four of them left the classroom and Liang Cheng said, “I’ll take Shen Ge back to the dorm. You guys go to the cafeteria to grab some food—”

Before he could finish the sentence, Li Fengyu shouted excitedly, “It’s Tang Shen!”

Liang Cheng subconsciously looked at Fu Shen.

Fu Shen’s eyes were locked on Tang Zhou, shining brightly with a noticeable smile at the corner of his lips.

“Why are you here?”

He felt that even if Tang Zhou had come to pick him up, he should have waited in the car, instead of coming to the front of the school building.

Tang Zhou said casually, “A professor wanted to discuss some thesis matters with me, so I decided to pick you up on the way.”

Then he looked at Liang Cheng and the others, “I’ve ordered, so let’s go together? The car is over there.”

Liang Cheng shook his head decisively, “You and Shen Ge go ahead, we’ll eat at the cafeteria.”

He figured that Shen Ge probably wouldn’t welcome their light bulb presence.

Pi Xiu and Li Fengyu also refused in succession.

Tang Zhou had no choice but to accept this.

Once they were in the car, Fu Shen fastened his seatbelt: “You’re the representative for the graduating class?”

Tang Zhou nodded, “I have to write a speech.”

“It shouldn’t be difficult for you.” Fu Shen had no doubt that Tang Zhou would excel at it.

Tang Zhou: “Advanced math questions shouldn’t be difficult for you either.”

That straightforward ball caught Fu Shen off guard for a moment.

He paused then said, “There were a few classes where I didn’t listen carefully.”

“En.”

Tang Zhou stopped teasing and focused on driving. Fu Shen watched him without a word, unable to determine if he had just been joking or had seen through his poor acting.

Just like how he had seen through that girl.

As soon as they returned to their place, the delivery person arrived.

Fu Shen looked at the food which clearly exceeded the amount for two people in surprise, “Haven’t you ordered too much?”

Tang Zhou: “Lu Ye and Qiao Yuan will be here later.”

As soon as he said this, Lu Ye and Qiao Yuan appeared at the door.

Lu Ye had a bag in his hand and Qiao Yuan was holding a thermos.

Seeing Fu Shen in his wheelchair, Qiao Yuan walked over hesitantly and handed him the thermos, saying, “I had our house auntie make some nourishing soup. Would you like some?”

Fu Shen said faintly, “Thank you.”

Lu Ye also handed over the bag, “We won the basketball game, here’s the prize.”

It wasn’t a very official competition, so there wasn’t even a trophy. The prize was a delicate little basketball toy that the basketball club had bought themselves.

Fu Shen didn’t quite understand why they had such a prize, but when he saw Tang Zhou’s eyes shining quietly, he felt that the person responsible for buying the prizes had a good eye.

He accepted the toy and played with it on his lap.

Seeing that Fu Shen seemed more interested in the toy than the soup, Qiao Yuan asked cautiously, “Fu Ge, do you like dolls? If you do—”

“Let’s eat.” Tang Zhou’s cool voice interrupted.

Fu Shen chuckled softly then sat at the table obediently.

Lu Ye took the initiative to serve the nourishing soup that Qiao Yuan had brought and took a sip, praising, “Auntie’s cooking is still as good as ever.”

With his praise, Qiao Yuan finally showed a hint of a smile.

During this time, he had been anxious, worried about his mother’s emotions but also feeling an inexplicable guilt towards Fu Shen.

Which made him overly cautious when dealing with him.

Tang Zhou asked, “Is Auntie Sheng doing alright?”

Qiao Yuan nodded honestly, “Mom was very sad before, but she’s getting better now.”

“Do you have any plans to join the company this summer?”

This question might have seemed suspiciously nosy, but Tang Zhou had known Qiao Yuan for a long time and was a few years older than him, so him asking this question wasn’t a problem.

“My mom said I shouldn’t worry about these things, she’ll handle it herself.” Qiao Yuan had a conflicted expression.

Lu Ye coughed, “I think the same as Tang Zhou. Auntie doesn’t want you to worry because she loves you, but you joining the company would also be a way to support her. Qiao… President Qiao will be wary of Auntie, but for now, he won’t be wary of you.”

Anyone could see that Qiao Yuan lacked the ability to manage the company, and it was clear he had no ambitions for it either, so Qiao Chengan wouldn’t bother about whether Qiao Yuan joined the company or not.

On the other hand, if Sheng Ling ever wanted to get involved in the company’s affairs again, it would definitely arouse Qiao Chengan’s vigilance.

Thinking about his mother’s recent anxiety, Qiao Yuan made up his mind, “Alright, I’ll tell my mom that I want to join the company for training this summer. Zhou Ge, if I have any questions, can I ask you?”

“You can ask me!” Lu Ye offered eagerly.

After all, he had been groomed as the heir for so many years, so he had some insights into company management.

Qiao Yuan was about to agree when Tang Zhou said, “You can learn from Auntie Sheng.”

Sheng Ling had much more experience than Lu Ye and a deeper understanding of the Sheng family’s business. If she could secretly mentor Qiao Yuan, it would be much better than him wandering aimlessly.

“But my mom doesn’t want me to…”

Tang Zhou interrupted, “Have you told her clearly that you want to join the company?”

Qiao Yuan: “No.”

“Go back and have a serious conversation with Auntie Sheng, she won’t refuse.”

With Qiao Yuan being the only bloodline of the Sheng family, if he wanted the family’s business, they would definitely do their best to support him.

It was just that he had been too soft over the years, showing no desire of wanting to inherit the company and the Sheng family cherished him and believed that as long as he was happy, that was enough, so they didn’t pressure him.

Thinking about the Qiao Yuan in his dream, who returned to his homeland, Tang Zhou felt that people weren’t set in stone. The fact that they didn’t change only meant that their determination wasn’t strong enough.

Qiao Yuan seemed to have suddenly found a goal and nodded, “Alright.”

Lu Ye felt both distressed and relieved. He touched his head, “Don’t worry, both Zhou Ge and I won’t leave you alone.”

Hearing this, Tang Zhou subconsciously looked at Fu Shen, who happened to be looking at him too.

When their gazes met, Fu Shen was the first to speak, “What’s wrong?”

Tang Zhou lowered his gaze, “Nothing.”

He was just thinking that Lu Ye was being a bit too confident. If things really unfolded as it had in the dream, both he and Lu Ye wouldn’t be able to withstand Fu Shen.

Of course, Tang Zhen had held him back and the Lu family’s people had held Lu Ye back. Both of them had been constrained, which was one of the reasons they hadn’t been able to succeed in the fight.
