Chapter 70

Editor: Jodi

In a blink of an eye, Han Zhi’s part in the movie was all filmed and he completed his final scene.

Although it was a minor role, everyone saw the effort he had put into this character, hence on the day he finished filming, the director specially prepared a small wrap party for him.

The party was held in a restaurant next to the film city, with a few key creators casually eating and drinking together; it wasn’t very formal.

Seeing Meng Ke walk into the private room, Han Zhi wasn’t surprised at all.

Meng Ke had gotten along very well with the cast and crew this week, and everyone who saw him would greet him with shouts of ‘Big brother Meng, Big brother Meng’, what’s more Meng Ke didn’t put on any airs of a big boss.

With the director even calling him most affectionately, as if he was their patron. And it was indeed true, as Meng Ke had invested a lot of money and specifically told the director that they shouldn’t skimp on the film’s music, and that it had to be high-end and classy.

At this moment, Meng Chao was right beside Meng Ke, staring at him teasingly, thinking that he was pitiful. Clearly, he had invested in the movie just for Han Zhi, but he had to beat around the bush and couldn’t even reveal his name in front of Han Zhi.

Poor Meng Ke.

But back to the main story.

Although Han Zhi was somewhat aloof, he was also emotionally intelligent. He had gotten along harmoniously with the crew over the week, so at the wrap party, as everyone pushed him to drink he didn’t refuse, as he had prepared to get drunk.

However in the end, all the drinks ended up in Meng Ke’s mouth. It was still Meng Ke who was impressive, managing to intercept the drinks meant for Han Zhi without anyone noticing anything unusual.

Han Zhi lowered his head and sipped his juice, feeling the sweetness of the juice seep into his heart.

Meng Ke, used to socializing, had a good alcohol tolerance, but even he couldn’t withstand frequent drinking and so taking a break, he went to the restroom.

Not sure if it was a coincidence or not, but when Meng Ke left, the second male lead of the movie, Huang Wenkai, received a phone call and apologizing to everyone, stepped out of the private room to take the call.

Everything was so natural that no one noticed anything unusual.

Meng Ke returned, still smiling, however Meng Chao was sensitive enough to notice something unusual in his eyes.

And when Meng Ke was passing by he asked quietly, “What’s wrong?”

Meng Ke replied softly, “Nothing, just some people being dishonest.”

After Meng Ke said this, the second male lead pushed the door open and returned to the room, his gaze flickering.

Meng Chao immediately guessed that something had happened.

Such things were common in their circle; some people would do anything to climb up or curry favor so Meng Chao, who had been in the industry for years was no longer surprised by such behavior.

However he was definitely not happy that someone had such dirty intentions towards his family.

Lin Qin who was sitting next to Meng Chao took a small sip of juice and then looked at Meng Chao and immediately noticed that he looked a bit off. “Meng Chao Ge, what’s wrong?”

Meng Chao shook his head, “Nothing.” Then he pushed Lin Qin’s favorite dish in front of him and rubbed his hair, “Eat more.”

Lin Qin didn’t ask further and began eating.

Just then, someone came to toast Meng Chao who responded with a non-alcoholic drink.

The person was displeased, “Movie Emperor Meng, just drinking a soft drink isn’t good enough, right? At least have a beer!”

Meng Chao smiled with a mixture of helplessness and indulgence, “There’s no other way, the one in my family doesn’t allow me to drink.”

Then after saying this, he glanced at Lin Qin.

Lin Qin’s face turned red, however the corners of his lips couldn’t help but rise.

The person froze, then looked at Meng Chao suspiciously.

Family?

Then realizing something, he showed an expression of sudden understanding and went off to toast others with his glass of wine.

Secret marriages were very common in their circle, so it was understandable for a big star like Meng Chao to have a hidden marriage.

After the person walked away, Lin Qin nudged Meng Chao with his elbow, however under the table, Meng Chao took his hand, scraping the palm of Lin Qin’s hand with his fingers gently.

Lin Qin glared at him, but Meng Chao just smiled, causing him to also smile.

This kind of subtle intimacy had occurred often on the set secretly, a little secret that belonged to the two of them, one which was thrilling and exciting.

If certain people’s ulterior motives were excluded, then the wrap party was a success and everyone enjoyed themselves.

When it ended, several people were drunk, including Meng Ke.

However in Meng Chao’s opinion, Meng Ke was probably just pretending to be drunk.

He knew very well that his drinking capacity wasn’t so weak that he would be incapacitated by just a few drinks.

And having seen through this, he didn’t say anything and only helped him downstairs with Lin Qin, one person on each side.

Han Zhi, on the other hand, had been well protected by Meng Ke and so didn’t drink a drop.

As they walked toward the car park, Meng Ke kept hinting at Meng Chao to send him to Han Zhi’s car, but pretending not to understand, Meng Chao continued to lead him to his own car.

If it wasn’t because he was pretending to be drunk, Meng Ke would probably be hopping mad. This little brother of his was usually good at everything and very smart, so why had he become so foolish now? What was wrong with being a wingman just this once?

Meng Chao was laughing his head off inside, but on the outside he kept on a serious expression, and just as Han Zhi was about to get into his car to leave, he called out to him.

“Han Zhi, my big brother is staying at the same hotel as you are, and it’s out of my way, so can I trouble you to please take him back?” Meng Chao said and the moment he finished saying this, he heard Meng Ke let out a sigh of relief next to his ear, clearly very eager to go with Han Zhi.

Han Zhi hand that was opening the car door froze slightly as he thought about the fact that Lin Qin and Meng Chao had scenes early the next morning, what’s more it was already late. If they took Meng Ke back to the hotel before going back to their own, it would indeed be inconvenient.

Immediately, he walked over to Meng Chao and Lin Qin to help Meng Ke over.

Meng Ke leaned on Han Zhi obediently, putting all his weight on him, causing him to stagger, but fortunately Meng Chao quickly reached out to help, otherwise both Han Zhi and Meng Ke would have fallen to the ground.

After steadying himself, Han Zhi said to Meng Chao and Lin Qin while supporting Meng Ke, “Then, I’ll take him back.”

Meng Chao: “Thank you.”

Then they all got into their respective cars and drove off in different directions.

Lin Qin thought for a while in the car then said to Meng Chao, “How come I feel like big brother Meng wasn’t drunk?”

He had seen it clearly when they had been about to fall just now. Meng Ke had moved quickly to support Han Zhi.

Meng Chao laughed lightly, “He isn’t drunk at all. If I had actually helped him into our car, he probably wouldn’t want to be brothers with me anymore.”

Lin Qin was a bit confused at first, then realized, “You mean big brother Meng and Han Zhi…”

Meng Chao nodded, “Exactly what you’re thinking.”

Lin Qin tsk’ed in surprise, “I didn’t expect that they are actually together.”

“Not yet.” Meng Chao said with a bit of schadenfreude. “My big brother’s wife chasing road has only just begun.”
