Chapter 72 Sudden trouble arises

Editor: Jodi

Huang Wenkai stood on the set with his arms hanging down, angry. He just didn’t understand why the director wouldn’t approve his acting when there was clearly no issue with his acting.

Before joining the crew of ‘Dark War’, he had acted in several TV dramas and movies, and in every crew the directors and producers had all held him in high esteem. No one had ever criticized his acting skills or made him NG repeatedly.

Huang Wenkai only felt humiliated as the gazes of everyone on him seemed like accusations, and this kind of gaze, he had felt quite a lot in the past month with it seems everyone saying that he didn’t have any acting skills and that he was completely overshadowed by Lin Qin and Meng Chao.

If it was Meng Chao then he could understand, after all, he was a five billion box-office Movie Emperor. But what was Lin Qin? The movie he had starred in hadn’t even been released in cinemas yet while he, Huang Wenkai had starred in two to three movies that grossed over five hundred million each.

Maybe he hadn’t won any awards, but in terms of commercial value, he, Huang Wenkai, considered himself far superior to Lin Qin, so why should Lin Qin overshadow him?

This jealousy had been planted in his heart a long time ago, and being outperformed by Lin Qin again tonight, his jealousy exploded, making it impossible for him to regain his focus in acting.

It was a vicious cycle, because the more Huang Wenkai stewed in his anger, the worse his performance became, making it so that after the director called for a break, he glared at Lin Qin with a venomous, grim, and chilly look.

Lin Qin, confused, watched as he left in a huff.

Chu Hong walked over with a coat for him and as he adjusted the collar he asked her, “I didn’t provoke him, right?”

Chu Hong knew that the ‘him’ he was referring to was Huang Wenkai as she had also seen his glare.

“Ignore him, he’s just jealous.” Chu Hong replied, her tone filled with disdain.

Wasn’t it just jealousy? He had neither the acting skills nor the good looks of Lin Qin, and his bad attitude had led to gossip in the crew, yet he was here blaming Lin Qin for his own shortcomings. Wasn’t he just sick?

Lin Qin thought about it and agreed. Such a person wasn’t worth paying attention to, and so wearing his coat, he walked over to Meng Chao, who immediately handed him a cup of hot coffee, “How do you feel?”

Meng Chao’s scenes had actually all been completed, and he could have rested, however he still chose to stay to accompany Lin Qin.

In front of others, Lin Qin would say he was fine, but with Meng Chao, he didn’t hide his emotions, and so taking a gentle sip of the coffee, he told him, “I’m a little tired.”

Meng Chao casually pulled over a chair for him to sit down, “Sit down, I’ll give you a massage.”

And Lin Qin, not being polite with Meng Chao, sat down with his coffee in hand and Meng Chao, placing his hands on his shoulders, massaged with just the right amount of pressure.

Perhaps Meng Chao’s technique was too effective, because soon, Lin Qin fell into a drowsy sleep.

However still preoccupied with thoughts of filming, his sleep was restless, because before long he was startled awake by some noise, waking up in a daze.

And seeing Meng Chao sitting guard beside him, he froze for a while then turned to asked him, “What happened?”

Meng Chao’s face didn’t look very good, seemingly tinged with anger, “Huang Wenkai is gone.”

Meng Chao felt distressed for Lin Qin. Huang Wenkai had been NG’ing because of his own problems but Lin Qin had spent the whole night enduring this, but now he was gone just like that, completely disregarding the efforts and contributions of others. He was both selfish and stupid!

“Why did he leave? Aren’t we still not done with the filming?” Lin Qin woke up completely. This was the last scene and Huang Wenkai had just walked. What should the crew do? How could someone be so irresponsible?

Even Lin Qin who normally had a very good temper was angry because of this incident.

And it wasn’t just Lin Qin and Meng Chao who were angry, practically the entire crew was upset, with the director so furious that he even smashed his megaphone, “Call Huang Wenkai. If he doesn’t come back in ten minutes, we’re replacing him!”

Who the fuck cared whether he had been pushed in by an investor or not. He had already compromised a lot because of him, but asking him to accommodate him any further in this situation now was completely out of the question. In his many years in the industry, he had never encountered such a frustrating situation!

Huang Wenkai’s agent was shocked when he received the call and while he apologized profusely over and over again with his mouth, he started cursing Huang Wenkai in his heart.

He was really a fool. Just how many people were coveting the role of the second male lead in ‘Dark War’? It had a renowned director, was a big production and starred two internationally acclaimed Movie Emperors as the leads. This movie was bound to explode!

Yet he hadn’t given the entire crew of ‘Dark War’ any face. Did he really think he was that big?

The agent, after a string of apologies, called Huang Wenkai immediately, but the phone just rang and rang unanswered, making the agent hate that he couldn’t just drag him back to teach him a hard lesson.

Did he really think that just because he had a backer everyone would support him? All the directors he had worked with before had only spoken highly of him because of the investor. And those box office numbers, just how much of that had been inflated, did Huang Wenkai really not have any idea? He really thought he was a big shot, daring to act like a diva in such a large production!

The agent, muttering non-stop in his mind, finally got through on the phone and immediately, he started yelling, “Huang Wenkai, go back immediately and apologize to the director then obediently finish filming the remaining scene.”

Huang Wenkai who was speeding in his sports car just sneered in response, “I just won’t act!”

Anyways it didn’t matter if he didn’t act in this movie. There were a dozens more waiting for him, just begging him to act in them, so why should he bow to others?

His agent gritted his teeth: “If you don’t come back, then just wait to face the consequences!”

Shrugging indifferently, Huang Wenkai hung up.

Right from the start of his career he had been taken care of, and all these years everything had been going smoothly for him. Who didn’t treat him with respect whenever they saw him? And this time after suffering so much aggrievance in the crew of ‘Dark War’, wasn’t he allowed to be capricious just this once?

He would only consider going back to the crew if the director begged him to come back to finish the last scene. Wanting him to go back on his own? He Huang Wenkai wasn’t a pushover!

However this resource ‘Dark War’ was really good. If it wasn’t that he had been pushed to the wall, he wouldn’t have chosen this path.

Meanwhile on the set of ‘Dark War’. Ten minutes had passed, yet Huang Wenkai had still not returned.

The director instructed the assistant to call his agent again, and this time the assistant was quite polite, setting a time and place for a meeting to discuss the termination of the contract. This kind of artist, they really couldn’t serve him anymore.

It was just that having to replace actors at the last moment meant that all the scenes for the second male lead had to be filmed again, a task that was both time-consuming and labor-intensive.

And for a while, the atmosphere in the entire crew was quite tense.

They all thought that this was the end of the issue, however unexpectedly, another wave of trouble rose up again.
