Chapter 83 Meng Chao’s Grandfather

Editor: Jodi

Facing Meng Zhao Kang’s interrogation, Meng Chao remained calm as he said, “Yes, I’m in a relationship.”

“And your partner is a man?” Meng Zhao Kang’s voice lowered considerably as he continued, “I agreed to let you enter the entertainment industry and you promised not to indulge in its decadence. So what’s this now? You’re actually in a relationship with a man? Simply outrageous and against morality! I order you to break up with him immediately!”

Meng Chao was very firm, “I won’t! I love him!”

Meng Zhao Kang threw an inkstone from the desk at him directly, “I want to see if your love can protect him!”

“Grandfather, you’re wrong on this point.” Meng Chao turned his body to avoid the inkstone that came smashing at him, laughing lightly. “Love is about mutual protection. I believe I can protect him, and he can protect himself. So, Grandfather, let me just say this unpleasant words first, you’re not young, so don’t be used as a pawn by others.”

“Meng Chao, what do you mean by that?” Meng Zhao Kang’s brows wrinkled, sensing something from his words. “What do you mean by I shouldn’t be used as a pawn by others? Could it be you think someone has wronged you?”

Meng Chao shrugged indifferently, “Grandfather, you should know my character. You couldn’t stop me back then when I wanted to get into the entertainment industry so Grandfather, whoever I want to be with, you are just as unable to stop me.”

Over the years, Meng Chao didn’t just grow in the entertainment industry; he had also flourished in his own business, because in order to free himself from the Meng family’s influence, he had long sought independence, and he and his big brother, Meng Ke were in sync, because while managing the businesses that had been given by Meng Zhao Kang, they had also carved out their own business.

And now, this business was strong enough to withstand any blockade from the Meng family.

And so in front of Meng Zhao Kang, Meng Chao had confidence. He was an independent individual first, before he was a descendant of the Meng family. He didn’t need to sacrifice his happiness and life for the family.

However Meng Zhao Kang never seemed to understand this. He saw all descendants of the Meng family as tools for the family’s use, treasuring only those who brought value to the family.

However Meng Chao was the exception to this rule. His capabilities since he was small had been valued by Meng Zhao Kang who almost groomed him to be a successor, setting high expectations for him.

However this wasn’t the life Meng Chao wanted. He had long since wanted to escape this puppet-like upbringing since high school, and so he worked hard to enrich himself and eventually enrolled in a film school according to his own wishes.

He was the first person in the Meng family to rebel this way, and when his university acceptance letter arrived, it sparked a heated fight between him and Meng Zhao Kang.

However in the end, he convinced Meng Zhao Kang, entered the film school, and made a movie in his freshman year that started his legendary career.

Meng Zhao Kang had already lost control over Meng Chao’s career, hence, his desire to control Meng Chao’s love life intensified. The person Meng Chao married had to be someone he decided on, someone who could bring unprecedented business benefits to the Meng family.

And so hearing that Meng Chao was in a relationship without his permission, he was furious. Which was why he was confronting him when he had just come home.

However just as he had never been able to control Meng Chao before, it was even more impossible for him to do so now.

Meng Zhao Kang trembled with anger at Meng Chao’s words, but Meng Chao just added calmly, “Grandfather, I’ll bring him home to you after the New Year. I think you’ll like him.” And mentioning Lin Qin, Meng Chao’s tone and expression suddenly softened, causing one to be able to tell at a glance that he was clearly and obviously head over heels in love.

“You dare!” Meng Zhao Kang roared, pointing at him.

Meng Chao didn’t reply, turning around to leave. However just as he reached the door, he suddenly stopped, then added with a beaming smile, “Grandfather, remember to prepare a big red envelope. After all, this is my wife’s first visit. We need to make a good impression.”

“Get out!” Meng Zhao Kang grabbed another book and threw it at him, and reacting quickly once again, Meng Chao dodged then went out, even helping Meng Zhao Kang by closing the door to the study behind him as well.

However the moment the door closed, the smile on his face disappeared and taking his phone out, he called his agent.

The call was answered quickly, and there was elation in his agent’s voice, “Meng Chao.”

Meng Chao was very direct, “Tomorrow, we will go to the studio to terminate the labor contract.”

To put it bluntly, it meant you’re fired!

The agent didn’t understand, “Why? What have I done wrong? That you’re firing me just like that?”

“I could still tolerate you even though our principles don’t align, after all, you’ve also worked hard all these years.” Meng Chao continued without emotion, “But working for someone else while on my payroll is something I won’t tolerate.”

Why would his Grandfather know about he and Lin Qin? It was definitely because an insider had leaked this information. The reason why he had kept his agent around for so many years wasn’t because he had done a good job, but because he was someone Meng Zhao Kang had planted at his side, a ‘monitor’ who had been placed by his side under the guise of an agent.

However now, this ‘monitor’ had stepped on his bottom line, so naturally he wouldn’t allow him to stay.

Moreover he had seen through his agent’s little intentions. He was aware of Lin Qin’s background, at least he was aware that Lin Qin was a child of the Lin family, and the Lin family’s standing was comparable to that of the Meng family’s. However he never mentioned this, most likely wanting Meng Zhao Kang to deal with Lin Qin.

Which was why he had said that Meng Zhao Kang was being used as a pawn.

He would never allow someone who had ulterior motives towards Lin Qin to be by his side.

And hearing Meng Chao say this, the agent already knew that he knew everything and so didn’t defend himself and instead said calmly, “Okay, we’ll meet tomorrow.”

Then not allowing his agent say anything more, Meng Chao hung up directly.

Then after doing this, he went back to his room and sent Meng Ke a message.

Meng Chao: “I’ve come out to Grandfather.”

Meng Ke was overjoyed. Finally, there was a bird who had put its head up first: “Congratulations! Wishing that you and little brother-in-law get your marriage certificate soon.”

Meng Chao: “I’m going back to the old house the day after tomorrow.”

Meng Ke: “Why?”

Meng Chao: “I’m bringing Qin Qin over to meet the parents.”

Meng Ke: “Yo-ho, it’s still you who’s efficient. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely prepare a big red envelope for my little brother-in-law.”

Meng Chao: “I’ll thank you on behalf of Qin Qin in advance.”

Meng Ke: “There’s something we need to discuss.”

Meng Chao: “Go ahead.”

Meng Ke: “After New Year’s, come to the company for half a month. Han Zhi is going to Europe for an ad filming and I want to seize the opportunity to win him over in one fell swoop.”

Meng Chao responded coolly: “Oh.”

Meng Chao: “So you two aren’t together yet? Your pace is slow.”

Meng Ke: “……”

Little brother, you’ve pierced my heart.
