Chapter 86 Meeting the parents
Editor: Jodi
Lin Qin didn’t hear the sourness in Lin Cheng Du’s words. He looked at himself in the mirror a few more times, only to feel that he was incomparably perfect. “It’s because I’m meeting the parents that’s why I have to be formal. I can’t leave a bad impression, right?”
Lin Cheng Du said immediately, “I’ll have words with whoever dares to say a bad word about my son!”
Lin Qin laughed, feeling a warm glow inside.
Then Lin Cheng Du, as if suddenly remembering, said, “Meng Chao is already waiting for you downstairs. Do you want to go down now?”
“Dad, why didn’t you tell me earlier?” Lin Qin run down the stairs hurriedly. He could guarantee that his father had intentionally not said anything.
And yes, Lin Cheng Du had indeed done it on purpose. His son was being whisked away, so what if he made Meng Chao wait down there a little longer? What, he had complaints?
Lin Qin jogged all the way downstairs, then afraid that his clothes would wrinkle up, stood still and straightened it out quickly before looking at Meng Chao. “Meng Chao Ge, I’m ready. We can go now.”
Walking over, Meng Chao took his hand, interlocking their fingers then reached out out of habit to rub his hair but then remembered that he had styled his hair and so caressed his face gently instead, complimenting him, “My Qin Qin is really handsome.”
Lin Qin was nervous, so his voice was a little dry. “Do I really look okay like this?”
“You can even go straight to an awards ceremony dressed like this. It’s just meeting my family, this is more than enough.” Meng Chao said as he reached out to straighten his tie. “There’s really no problem, don’t worry.”
With Meng Chao’s reassurance, Lin Qin relaxed considerably, his shoulders easing.
And when Lin Cheng Du came down from upstairs. Meng Chao nodded at him respectfully, “Uncle, I’m taking Lin Qin with me now.”
Lin Cheng Du warned, “You must not let Xiao Qin suffer even the slightest bit of grievance, otherwise you’ll never get past me.”
Lin Chengdu had naturally heard about the kind of person Meng Zhao Kang was as they moved in the same elite circles, hence he was well aware that Lin Qin meeting Meng Chao’s parents today wouldn’t be easy. He even expected Meng Zhao Kang to be difficult.
However he trusted Meng Chao. He would protect his Xiao Qin.
Meng Chao promised, “Uncle, don’t worry, I will protect Lin Qin.”
“En, you guys be careful on the road.” Lin Cheng Du waved them off, urging them to get going.
Lin Qin originally felt nervous when he got into the car, however as the car got closer to the Meng family house, he began to feel as if he was being judged. His whole body couldn’t help but tighten up again, his palms starting to sweat, and it was as if the seat he was sitting on had needles in them, making him feel as if he was sitting on pins and needles.
All of a sudden, a hand reached over to hold his, the warmth of the hand instantly dispelling the cold from his hand. He turned to look at Meng Chao.
And Meng Chao, focused on driving, didn’t look at him. However his hand held his firmly, offering immense strength.
Lin Qin intertwined his fingers with Meng Chao’s, suddenly feeling calmer. He whispered, “I’m fine now.”
The car finally stopped in front of the Meng family’s old home and there, a butler in a tailcoat and white gloves came to open the doors of the car for them.
And the moment they stepped out, they were greeted by a red carpet that led up to the villa together with maids in uniforms standing on either side who bowed as one the moment Lin Qin and Meng Chao got out of the car.
This was the first time Lin Qin was seeing such a grand welcome at someone’s home, making him somewhat surprised, and he even thought it was the Meng family that had arranged such a special welcome for him.
However such a grand gesture only made him more nervous.
This was also Meng Chao’s first time seeing such a large scale display at home, however he understood his grandfather’s intentions immediately. His grandfather was trying to intimidate Lin Qin, trying to force him to realise from a material stance that they were from two different worlds, and thus create a sense of inferiority in him.
However his grandfather’s calculation was definitely wrong, because although Lin Qin had never seen such a large scale display before, his family background spoke for itself, hence there was no way he would feel inferior over such a trivial thing.
Lin Qin had never felt that he and Meng Chao were from two different worlds, not even when his condition was at its worst.
And although he had been a little timid before because of his social anxiety disorder, he had, after all been raised in a big prominent old family, so now that his condition had improved greatly, and could even be said to have been cured to a certain extent, the upbringing ingrained in his bones naturally came back.
Hence although he was a bit nervous, he was very calm and composed as he walked inside with Meng Chao.
The Meng family had long heard that Meng Chao would be bringing his lover home today, hence everyone who could spare the time was present, and was now waiting in the living room eagerly for him to appear.
However when Meng Chao and Lin Qin walked hand in hand into the living room, they couldn’t help but be a little surprised to see that his lover was Lin Qin.
They were surprised because they hadn’t heard beforehand that the lover Meng Chao was bringing back home was a man. What’s more some of them had watched ‘We Are Together’ and had assumed that the reason why the two of them had looked very intimate was because Meng Chao was doing it to cooperate with the show. They never expected that it was real.
However regardless of what they were thinking in their hearts, it didn’t show in the least bit on their faces as they all got up to greet Lin Qin with smiles.
And Lin Qin, suppressing his nervousness, as well as his innate fear of strangers, greeted Meng Chao’s relatives and friends with a very calm and composed look.
“You must be Lin Qin, right?” Just then, a middle-aged beauty came down from upstairs. She was wearing a light blue cheongsam, its fitted design outlining her figure perfectly, and well-maintained, she looked to be in her thirties or forties, with a dignified and elegant aura, one that immediately caught one’s attention.
Meng Chao whispered to Lin Qin, “That’s my mom. You can just call her Auntie.
“Auntie, hello.” Lin Qin, understanding immediately, greeted Meng Chao’s mother respectfully.
And Meng Chao’s mother, a warm smile on her face, walked over to him, took his hand gently, then slid a bracelet off her wrist onto his, saying as she did so, “I didn’t prepare any special welcome gift. This bracelet was left to me by my mother, something which can be consider a family heirloom for my daughter-in-law. Please take good care of it.”
Lin Qin didn’t accept it immediately. Instead, he looked at Meng Chao, then seeing him nod, accepted the bracelet, “Thank you, Auntie.”
“You’re being too polite saying thank you. I’m still waiting for you to change how you call me.” Meng Chao’s mother was very enthusiastic, her words implying that she had already accepted Lin Qin as her daughter-in-law. Even though her daughter-in-law was also a man, as long as her son was happy, then that was all that mattered.
“Change how he calls you?” A deep voice sounded from upstairs, causing everyone to look up, then they saw Meng Zhao Kang coming down, an imposing expression on his face as he continued, “Without my permission, who dares to acknowledge him?”
