Chapter 14.1

What Ning Sheng hated the most was his rehabilitation training. He had to maintain a still posture, standing rigidly for a long time while a group of doctors and nurses would come and manipulate his arms and legs at any time.

He didn’t like this feeling of being surrounded and uncomfortable, like he had turned into a puppet doll that wasn’t in control of himself and had fallen back into those dark, hopeless days without sunlight.

So after two training sessions, he used the excuse of a stomachache and hid in the bathroom, refusing to come out.

“I will definitely be able to walk properly in the future.” He told his grandmother from the bathroom.

His grandmother: “Oh.”

Then she asked, “When?”

Ning Sheng reported a date back seriously.

His grandmother said, “Go to the fortune-telling stall at the town’s entrance right now and kick over the broken bowl in front of the master.”

Ning Sheng asked, “For what?”

His grandmother replied, “To make him give his seat to you.”

Ning Sheng: “….”

“Even the master doesn’t dare predict a specific date!”

She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “Little ancestor, stop coaxing your grandmother and hurry out to do your rehabilitation training.”

“Grandmother, I just got carsick yesterday and feel awful. Can I skip it today?” Ning Sheng asked softly.

“Didn’t you always fuss about wanting to go back to your parents?” His grandmother coaxed him, “Once you learn to walk again, your parents will come to pick you up.”

Ning Sheng: “….”

In those recent years, he only went home for short stays during the New Year, and his little brother was small and in poor health, so the whole family revolved around his little brother, leaving him feeling bored when he was there.

Qing’an Town was quite nice. It was monotonous but also simple, without too many complicated people and things. His heart had gone wild, and he no longer felt as eager to return.

“And your fans are also waiting for you to come back.” His grandmother told him. “You are so much more lively now, they will definitely like you even more.”

“They won’t remember me.” Ning Sheng told her, “They fall in love with everyone they meet.”

“Grandmother, I’m really tired today.” He added.

“Alright.” His grandmother, distressed could only say, “But you can’t be lazy next time.”

Happy, Ning Sheng allowed himself to be wheeled out.

“Do we have these at home?” He handed the housekeeper a handwritten list.

The housekeeper took it and saw it listed foods like purple sweet potatoes, spinach, blueberries, carrots, and green peppers.

The housekeeper: “?. We should have them all.”

“Give them all to me.” Ning Sheng told him.

As far as he could remember, Xu Ling should be a bit nearsighted.

He had seen Xu Ling every now and then a few times wearing silver-rimmed glasses, standing by the car door and talking on the phone.

So if it was nearsightedness, then it needed to be supplemented.

He used his grandmother’s computer to search for all the foods good for eyesight.

The next day at school, Ning Sheng carried a heavy backpack.

When he entered the classroom, he met Li Haoyue who was also carrying a heavy backpack.

“Look, new questions.” Li Haoyue unzipped it.

“Look, newly bought vegetables.” Ning Sheng unzipped his bag then said disdainfully under Li Haoyue’s confused gaze, “Move aside.”

Xu Ling was lying on the desk, making up the zoo visit diary when suddenly a box of blueberries appeared in front of him.

“Eat them.” Ning Sheng told him.

“What’s this blue ball?” Lu Peng jumped over.

“It’s a basketball.” Ning Sheng said without the expression on his face changing.

It was normal for Lu Peng not to recognize blueberries, as they were rarely seen in the fruit shops of Qing’an Town which was somewhat rural.

“Are they poisonous?” Lu Peng asked.

Ning Sheng: “Yes.”

Lu Peng left in disappointment.

Ning Sheng turned his head and saw Xu Ling was examining the blueberries in the box.

“You eat it like this.” He picked up one and brought it close to his lips to bite into, “Understand?”

“Ning Ning, are you trying to poison me?” Xu Ling asked.

“Are you dumb? That was to trick Lu Peng.” Ning Sheng leaned in and whispered in his ear, “These are for you, not for him.”

Xu Ling froze.

The blueberries had been washed, each fresh, with droplets of water on them.

He grabbed a handful and threw them into his mouth.

Ning Sheng was satisfied.

He was one step closer to becoming an invincible devil king.

“That’s it?” Xu Ling said, “It’s not enough to eat.”

And after he said this, he grinned, as if waiting for his reaction.

“How can that be!” Ning Sheng pulled out a box of steamed carrots from his backpack.

Xu Ling: “……”

“Eat all of these.” Ning Sheng also took out a box of cherries and a box of steamed purple sweet potatoes, “Don’t leave any.”

”Am I going on the road tomorrow?” Xu Ling asked in a friendly tone. 1Going on the road sort of means going to die, so Xu Ling was asking if the food Ning Sheng was giving him was his last farewell meal

“Don’t say ominous things.” Ning Sheng lifted his hand, pinched Xu Ling’s mouth and muttered twice, “Children’s words carry no harm, children’s words carry no harm.”

“Eating these is good for your eyes.” Ning Sheng told him.

In the future, your eyes will be bright and shining.

“Thank you.” Xu Ling said, “I only have two eyes.”

“That much?” Lu Peng turned back around, “This amount can give Xu Ge eyes that can see a thousand miles away.”

Xu Ling: “If I had eyes that see a thousand miles away, the first thing I’d look at is your family’s bank card password.”

Lu Peng: “Impossible, how would you know my mom’s birthday.”

Ning Sheng: “……”

In any case, having given these things to Xu Ling, he was very satisfied.
