Chapter 28.1 Birthday party accident

Editor: Jodi

Lu Xiao skilfully sidestepped, his reaction time unbelievably quick, and the incoming person lunged straight at the hard, cold bricks on the ground.

“Ah!”

He crashed heavily to the ground, producing a muffled sound that made the heart of Shen Ci, who was watching from a distance skip a beat.

Lu Xiao’s movement… was really skilled, to the point of breaking one’s heart. A black line formed on Shen Ci’s head as he thought to himself, how many times had someone tried to setup this kind of ‘accident’ that he had become adept at this? Was this the kind of trouble that came with being a top tier domineering boss?

Lu Xiao looked at the person on the ground with indifference, completely unfazed by his pained cries.

Then he accidentally caught sight of Shen Ci’s figure and walked over slowly and unhurriedly.

“Why did you come out?”

There were so many things to criticize about the scene before him that Shen Ci didn’t know where to start, so he chose to ignore it and changed the subject, “Little uncle, why did you sneak out to smoke again?”

Hearing this, Lu Xiao moved to extinguish the cigarette.

Shen Ci quickly reached out to stop him, hesitating, “Wait, um… I want to give it a try too!”

Lu Xiao raised an eyebrow and took a drag from the cigarette he held, exhaling a cloud of smoke that gently wafted over Shen Ci’s face.

“Then try it.”

The light smoke was just thick enough to block his line of sight, and a faint, bittersweet aroma of tobacco, along with the subtle, customary fragrance that Lu Xiao wore, filled the air.

As the wisps of smoke dissipated, it showed Lu Xiao, whose inky black eyes were low and deep, hiding a multitude of emotions.

Shen Ci felt like the smoke had entered his head, because he actually began to feel a bit dizzy…

The expression on Lu Xiao’s face not changing, he reached out to hold Shen Ci’s waist, smiling lightly as he extinguished the cigarette. “You’re just a child, don’t learn from me.”

He was already in his twenties, so how was he still a child? Shen Ci was just about to retort when he was interrupted by a voice from the side.

“Lu Xiao, you, you caused me to fall, you have to take responsibility…..” Bai Ziwei was standing on the side, his eyes red, his forehead bleeding and dirtied from the fall and his clothes dirty. In short, he looked quite pitiful.

But… was this a new trend, faking accidents like this? Shen Ci was shocked. It was obviously Bai Ziwei who fell on his own. Could it be that Lu Xiao should still wait patiently to be taken advantage of?

Wait a minute, the most crucial question was, why was the protagonist suddenly getting entangled with the villain?!

Lu Xiao looked at him, and Bai Ziwei acted even more pitiful and aggrieved, his eyes filling with tears.

He was being so obvious, did Lu Xiao still not understand?

Take him home! It was such a good opportunity, why wasn’t he seizing it?

Bai Ziwei shouted madly in his heart.

However Lu Xiao paid no attention to the weeping, pitiful figure in front of him and turned around, holding Shen Ci’s waist. “Xiao Ci, it’s time to go.”

Bai Ziwei: “???”

“Wait, don’t go—”

In his haste to stop them, he tried to rush forward but unfortunately stumbled over a protruding brick on the ground and screamed as he fell face-first into the mud.

Bai Ziwei endured the pain and raised his head, only to realize that the two of them hadn’t stopped in their steps at all!

Lu Xiao only showed him a heartless back, and the small cannon fodder Shen Ci kept looking back in fear, but Lu Xiao turned him forward again.

Bai Ziwei was feeling a bit desperate. He hadn’t expected Lu Xiao to be this ruthless… Could it be that he had been wrong before?

There was nothing much to do if they stayed behind, so after Shen Ci said goodbye to Wei Shuo, he pulled Lu Xiao to go back home.

And of course, it was the Shen family’s home, and only after he had persuaded Lu Xiao for a while did he get him to stay for the night.

Lu Xiao wanted to watch the news, Shen Ci was there to help him clean his glasses.

Lu Xiao wanted to take a shower, and Shen Ci stood outside, offering to scrub his back.

Lu Xiao wanted to sleep, and Shen Ci came over, hugging a pillow as he jumped skillfully into Lu Xiao’s arms.

Lu Xiao, who had been tossed and turned by Shen Ci’s antics wasn’t angry. Instead, he stroked his hair gently, “Tell me, what’s on your mind?”

Shen Ci’s eyes sparkled as he looked at Lu Xiao. “It’s not a big deal, but Little Uncle…. on our birthday, can you leave work a bit earlier and join us in the celebration?”

Lu Xiao froze, and the air seemed to thicken as silence hung between them.

The birthday party was always held at Lu Xiao’s estate, but he tended to arrive quite late, often just in time for Shen Ci to hurriedly blow out the candles around midnight, spending the last few minutes of their shared birthday together.

According to what the family said, Lu Xiao had never celebrated his birthday before. It was only after Shen Ci insisted that he started celebrating year after year.

Actually, looking back now, perhaps that day wasn’t really Shen Ci’s birthday, and it was likely chosen by the Shen family later on when they saw how close he and Lu Xiao were.

After all, Shen Ci was a child they had found, so how could they know his birthday?

Celebrating on the same day but only having a few minutes together never bothered Shen Ci before because he knew how busy Lu Xiao’s work was. But this year was different.

Perhaps, this would be his last birthday as the “Young Master of the Shen Family.” In the future, he wouldn’t have the privilege to have a grand birthday party at that luxurious estate or sit as an equal with his friends from the past… It would all have to be given back to Bai Ziwei.

He often said he was easygoing, and his choices were his own. But to really let go of all this, Shen Ci felt a pang in his heart.

It wasn’t the glamorous identity of a rich second generation that he couldn’t bear to part with, but the friends and family he’d grown close to over the years.

“Sharing the same birthday together is quite a bit of destiny, so can’t we spend it together just once, in its entirety?”

Seeing that Lu Xiao didn’t respond immediately, Shen Ci started to throw a mini tantrum, shouting while shaking Lu Xiao’s shoulders.

Anyways he had already crossed the point of no return, so he was determined to let Lu Xiao spend their last birthday celebration together.

Lu Xiao reached out and held Shen Ci’s shoulder to stop his restlessness, smiling helplessly, “If I don’t agree, I won’t be able to sleep tonight, right?”

Grinning, Shen Ci tossed the pillow he was holding aside and hugged Lu Xiao’s waist. “No one understands me better than little uncle!”

“It’s been a long time since I spent the night with little uncle, I won’t leave tonight!”

Shen Ci excitedly pulled the covers over them, ready to snuggle into Lu Xiao’s arms again– when he realized that his muscles had stiffened at some point.

He poked Lu Xiao’s arm, teasing mercilessly, “Little Uncle, why are you so stiff? Haha…”

Lu Xiao: “…”

Two minutes later, Shen Ci who was carried back to his own room by Lu Xiao was dumbfounded: “???”
