Chapter 79.1

“Who told you?”

After Brother Zhang returned to the tent, Shen Ci couldn’t help but ask, driven by curiosity, causing Brother Zhang to frown immediately.

“That’s not important.” Shen Ci deflected casually, “The point is, I don’t remember throwing my weight around…”

Brother Zhang rubbed his hair in frustration. “I originally didn’t want you to know, afraid it would affect your filming emotions.”

He pulled his phone out directly to show Shen Ci, letting him see for himself. “It can be handled quickly. Just take a casual look.”

The person who posted the complaint seemed to be from an ordinary account at first glance, and the post didn’t mention Shen Ci’s name specifically.

“No manners at all, throwing weight around because of family connections with the director…” Shen Ci read a few words quietly then stopped. The long essay of profanity that followed was too harsh for him to stomach, although he forced himself to finish reading it.

“…” His hair ornament nearly curved into a big question mark.

What about rudely pushing her away, what about arrogantly not cooperating… had he done any of that?

The events didn’t match up, but judging from the descriptions of appearance, family background, and experience, it indeed seemed similar to Shen Ci.

Being inexplicably slandered, Shen Ci was speechless.

This year, his temper had mellowed considerably. He didn’t cause trouble or create drama, and basically had no significant scandals. Yunxiao’s PR and legal teams weren’t freeloading either. It had been a long time since Shen Ci had experienced being cursed at on trending topics.

Just when he finally had a substantial work to show his abilities, his reputation was ruined again. How miserable.

He rolled his eyes as he clicked on the poster’s profile, discovering she had quite a few followers—over seventy thousand—and seemed to be a blogger who enjoyed sharing daily life.

“Strange, this account…”

Shen Ci scrolled down, unable to find any details that could prove the blogger’s identity. How did netizens figure it out?

Brother Zhang glanced at the phone screen. “She was quite cautious. Before posting the complaint, she deleted all her posts with photos. When complaining, she also didn’t clearly mention your name. She probably didn’t intend to expose you.”

“But she had been posting celebrity complaints for a long time, deleting them quickly each time, and they were always surprisingly accurate. Paparazzi had been watching this account for a while, so finding out her identity was normal.”

Shen Ci nodded thoughtfully and continued browsing the topic square, finding many familiar people’s posts.

“Holy crap…” Shen Ci clicked on Wei Shuo’s latest post, his pupils dilating in shock.

Wei Shuo was his own boss, so he was extremely unrestrained. Every time Shen Ci was slandered, he would join the battle under his main account as a frontline warrior.

This time was no exception. He had posted all the celebrity complaints the girl had previously deleted, and thoughtfully dug out the names of those involved. Whether true or false, he threw them all into the topic square boldly.

The gossip field immediately had a bumper harvest. Various celebrities’ reputations came crashing down, and the crowd’s firepower gradually shifted—

“Holy crap! My baby is scared of girls, how could he stare at girls’ butts! Wei Shuo, if you’re going to make things up, at least make it believable! Sisters, let’s go control the comments and clean up the square!”

“Some nobody internet celebrity is so desperate for attention! Is it necessary to drag Huan-ge down by making up scandals about your childhood friend?!”

“Ah ah, I don’t believe it! How could our baby secretly fart on set! No! A fairy’s farts are strawberry-scented pink bubbles, wuwuwu”

“…”

Shen Ci thought Wei Shuo had really gone crazy, actually getting involved in the cursing match. He was going to offend so many people!

Seeing so many keyboard warriors cursing at him, Shen Ci felt distressed.

He quickly called Wei Shuo, but Wei Shuo hung up directly and didn’t reply to WeChat messages, making Shen Ci extremely anxious.

However, while fans from various camps were busy controlling comments and Weibo was in chaos, Wei Shuo suddenly posted again.

“Everyone, after putting yourselves in their shoes, you should know how ridiculous and laughable that account’s complaints are, right? It’s really unlucky for Xiao Ci and all your beloved idols to encounter such attention-seeking staff members!”

With one sentence, he pulled the warring factions of fans into the same stance—all the complaints were randomly made up by the blogger, and all the celebrities who were complained about were innocent.

“Exactly! Shen Ci was so polite in previous live streams and variety shows! He had no attitude at all. I suspect that blogger has a grudge against Shen Ci?”

“Today’s scandal about Shen Ci is definitely made up by the blogger. Our cute baby was innocently dragged into it too, wuwuwu… Everyone, don’t be fooled by marketing accounts!”

“As someone in the industry who has had the fortune to work with him, Teacher Shen is beautiful and sweet-tongued, just like my baby—he gives 360-degree rainbow compliments!”

“…”

To clear their own idols’ names, countless people immediately turned their guns around, changing from cursing Wei Shuo to cursing the blogger.

After all, they had to clear Shen Ci’s name first before they could prove that all the blogger’s previous complaints were fake.

Even many celebrities who had been dragged into the mess came forward to speak up, taking the opportunity to clear their own scandals.

Throughout the entire process, Shen Ci watched the public opinion change in stunned amazement. “This actually works…”

Brother Zhang was on a conference call, and after hearing reports from company staff, he laughed in surprise. “Who would have thought Wei Shuo would lead the narrative? Xiao Ci, you’ll have to treat him to dinner when you get back.”

When Shen Ci called Wei Shuo again, he finally got through and sighed in relief. “I was so scared just now! Why didn’t you discuss it with me first? You really frightened me!”

“Hey, what’s the big deal? I was just worried about your fragile little heart not being able to handle it, haha. I’m a warrior who has stubbornly survived countless cyberbullying incidents.”

Wei Shuo seemed busy, chatting briefly before saying goodbye hurriedly, his voice quite excited.

“I’m not chatting anymore. A bunch of people just flooded my livestream to curse at me. I have to make good use of this traffic, haha! I’m going to knock that idiot from the top trending spot, hahaha!”

Shen Ci was exasperated. He had worried about this optimist for nothing…

Brother Zhang’s fingers worked on his computer rapidly, an earpiece in his ear. “I’m sending you the behind-the-scenes footage. You guys can blur it and release it.”

The meeting participants all responded, going off to handle their tasks. Brother Zhang’s call temporarily ended.

“What behind-the-scenes footage?” Shen Ci leaned over to ask.

Brother Zhang turned his computer screen toward him, indicating Shen Ci should look for himself.

The video on screen was playing, and Shen Ci squinted to look carefully, discovering the central figures in the video were him and Lu An, surrounded by crew members helping them dry off and touch up their makeup.

“What a coincidence—the cameraman was filming behind-the-scenes footage and recorded everything.” Brother Zhang pointed at a girl with her back to the camera. “That’s the person who posted on Weibo.”

Shen Ci couldn’t remember the situation clearly, but he vaguely recalled a girl talking to him and insisting on cleaning him up.

Shen Ci found it absurd. “I haven’t even complained about her throwing a tantrum…”

Brother Zhang: “Yunxiao will issue a statement later. The company will log into your account to repost it, and also post a clever Weibo.”

Shen Ci hummed in acknowledgment. The tent flap was lifted, and Lu Xiao came over.

“Boss, Xiao Ci’s matter has been handled.” Brother Zhang stood up to greet him.

Lu Xiao’s lips curved in a gentle arc. “Thank you for your hard work.”

“Not at all!” Brother Zhang turned to wink at Shen Ci, indicating he should follow along. “Oh my, it’s getting late. Shouldn’t a certain little friend be going to bed?”.

Lu Xiao also looked at Shen Ci, a smile in his eyes.

“…Then let’s go.”

Shen Ci lowered his head and muttered, not daring to look at Brother Zhang’s suggestive expression. He quickly pushed Lu Xiao’s back and left the tent.

Just outside the tent, with no one around, Lu Xiao grasped Shen Ci’s hand and looked at him with a smile in his lowered eyes.

Shen Ci felt his skin crawl. “That… Little uncle, your expression is a bit scary.”

Lu Xiao smiled silently.
