Chapter 38.2

 Editor: Jodi

Shen Ci was startled awake early in the morning by Brother Zhang’s urgent call, then he blinked in confusion, staring at the unfamiliar ceiling.

Where was this?

Hmm…. it seems he was staying in the house his little uncle bought?

But how come he didn’t remember coming to this room?

Shen Ci answered the phone, sat up in bed, then looked down at his pyjamas—he still didn’t remember.

He scratched his head in confusion. It was probably his little uncle who had helped him change.

“Xiao Ci, I’m almost at the villa. Get up and freshen up.”

“Okay….”

After Brother Zhang finished telling him this, he hung up the moment he heard the child on the other end of the phone get out of bed and shuffle around in his slippers.

It was late in the morning during winter, so although it was six o’clock, it was still dark outside.

Shen Ci dressed and freshened up quietly, then pushed open the bedroom door, only to find that the lights in the hall downstairs were on.

He leaned over the railing curiously, only to see Lu Xiao already sitting at the dining table in a suit and tie. He was sipping coffee in a leisurely manner, with a small reading screen next to him, probably reading the news.

He walked down the stairs, asking curiously: “Little uncle, do you usually get up this early?”

Lu Xiao’s work hours were at nine, so it couldn’t be because he lived so far away that he got up at six, right? Shen Ci felt a bit guilty.

“You’re up?” When Lu Xiao saw Shen Ci come down, he got up to fetch a plate of bacon and eggs from the kitchen counter, pushing it to his end of the table. “There’s been a lot of work at the company lately, so I start work earlier.”

“Auntie Bai isn’t here, so I managed to make something, make do with it a little.”

The bacon and eggs looked pretty good, emitting a tempting aroma, then a strange thought suddenly popped into Shen Ci’s mind.

Wouldn’t it be worth millions to auction off the chance to have breakfast prepared by the president of Yunxiao himself and to have breakfast with him?

“Why aren’t you eating?” Seeing him in a daze, Lu Xiao’s fingers tapped on the table. “Does it look unappetising?”

Shen Ci shook his head hurriedly, shaking off the behavior he had learned from Yang Ning of trying to cash everything in.

What money? This was priceless, okay!

Lu Xiao knew how to cook because Shen Ci used to throw temper tantrums when he was a child, so he had no choice but to learn how to in order to coax the little milk ball.

Shen Ci became bold. Since he was the reason why, then no one could compete with him!

Just as he sat down to start eating, he heard several honks from outside the villa. Brother Zhang had arrived.

“Oh my….” Shen Ci hurriedly ate his food in a frenzy, then stuffed the remaining large piece into his mouth.

Then he stood up, his cheeks bulging as he struggled to chew, looking like a little hamster as he said with difficulty, “Litt unc…. I’m goi.”

Lu Xiao couldn’t help but chuckle as he waved, “En, work hard.”

Xiao Ci picked his backpack up and left quickly, opening the door of the artist van and getting in.

He had originally wanted Brother Zhang to stay here too, however Brother Zhang refused adamantly, saying it was only a ten-minute drive, and that he could stay in a hotel.

So Shen Ci had no choice but to agree.

Sitting in the back seat, Brother Zhang turned on the light for him thoughtfully so he could review the script again.

Once filming started, every second counted.

Shen Ci took the worn-out script out from his bag and reviewed the scenes he would be acting in later carefully before putting it down.

He was already familiar with the script, so it was a breeze now.

Before filming started, Shen Ci spent every day memorising lines frantically, to the point where his mouth was almost sore, but he had finally memorised them all.

Brother Zhang was very surprised by this.

Previously, during the filming of “Don’t Say Farewell”, he had to force him to memorise lines every day, and if he didn’t, he would confiscate his phone and bank cards and not let him eat until he finished.

Seeing Shen Ci, with confidence written all over his face, putting down the script through the rearview mirror, Brother Zhang smiled, “Are you all done?”

“Yep!”

“Sigh, you’ve really grown up and have become much more sensible recently.”

Brother Zhang was pleased, but unfortunately, he was driving and so couldn’t rub Shen Ci’s little head.

With such dedication to work and a better temper, Shen Ci’s talents and abilities, which were previously overshadowed by his overly delicate appearance, were gradually being revealed.

Now, the current Shen Ci was really someone to look forward to in the future.

“Cut! That scene’s a wrap!”

The director shouted through the megaphone, looking at Shen Ci and Lin Wan, who were relieved and ready to take a break, with a smile on his face.

He hadn’t expected the filming to go this smoothly from the beginning.

Especially Shen Ci, he was simply stunning. He never expected that this newcomer, who was assumed to be just a “pretty vase” would have such acting skills.

Not only was he proficient in his lines and expressions, he also immersed himself in his role completely. It was evident that he had put in a lot of effort before filming started.

As for Lin Wan, the second male lead, he was a bit lacking in comparison and even made some mistakes in his lines, showing a lack of focus.

But the overall effect was very good!

The production assistant clicked the record board, marking the completion of another successful scene.

“Xiao Shen, Xiao Lin, take a break first, you’ve worked hard! The next scene is when the male and female leads bump into each other during their morning run, and it starts in 2 minutes!”

Shen Ci put on his down jacket, took the water Brother Zhang handed him, then took a sip, closing his eyes as the makeup artists fussed around him.

“Wow, your skin is so smooth and fair, I envy you…..”

“Teacher Shen, you were really great just now! And your fierce acting was so adorable! With you in this drama, it’s definitely going to be a hit.”

“Yes, yes, everyone was captivated when you were acting.”

“…..”

The makeup artists chattered away, discussing animatedly. The day’s work had just begun, so they still had some energy left for chatting.

Shen Ci smiled as he closed his eyes, saying casually, “There’s not much work in front of the camera. The entire drama relies on the logistical support of you sisters. You guys work much harder than I do.”

He had a sweet tongue, and although the makeup artists knew he was just being polite, being complimented by a handsome guy was always pleasant, so they couldn’t help but smile.

The rumours online about him being arrogant, bullying others and being just a pretty face….. they could see from today that they were all completely unfounded.

Good-looking, good-natured, and with decent acting skills among the newcomers, he was clearly a high-quality idol!

When Yang Ning saw Shen Ci walking towards the rest area , he stood up with a smile. “Your acting skills are really something! I’m afraid I’ll be overshadowed by you when we act together.”

Facing someone he was familiar with, Shen Ci wasn’t so polite. He said proudly, “Of course. Compared to me, you’re just a junior. I’ll definitely outshine you!”

His acting skills now were much better than during the time when “Don’t Say Farewell”  was filmed.

Before filming started, he not only memorised his lines, he also stayed up late studying many award-winning actors’ performances and even consulted seniors for advice.

So there was high aptitude, talent, and quick learning ability.

Yang Ning burst into laughter, “Yes, yes, yes, you’re good-looking, so you’re right!”

Qin Yun and the other actors on the side were also amused.

Then Lin Wan walked in, his expression not too good, and the atmosphere suddenly became a bit tense.

But after making eye contact with Shen Ci, he forced a smile, “Xiao Ci, you did really well, unlike me…. sigh, I’m really useless.”

His face was full of sadness, almost like he was morally blackmailing, just missing a sign on his forehead that said, “Shen Ci, hurry up and comfort me”.
