Chapter 68.1

Editor: Princess

Shen Ci huffed angrily as he lunged forward to throw punches, but fortunately Lu Xiao pulled him into his arms just in time, barely managing to interrupt the attack.

Lu Xiao’s long arms firmly restrained the restless child while he chuckled helplessly, “Don’t hurt your hands.”

Wen Ran, who nearly had his handsome face smashed by fists: ???

Wen Ran rolled his eyes speechlessly, “The little beauty’s skin is way too thin, isn’t it? I was just joking around earlier.”

“Wen Ran, I warned you already.” Lu Xiao’s gaze turned ice-cold as he glanced at him, sharp and murderous.

A chill shot up to his skull, and Wen Ran’s fingers tightened around the steering wheel while his nails scratched restlessly a few times.

He still managed to maintain his carefree, indifferent smile, although his confidence had diminished slightly.

After being held in Lu Xiao’s arms and having his head patted, Shen Ci calmed down considerably but panted heavily, “But—but your friend looking down on me and Xiao An wasn’t a joke, was it?”

Wen Ran frowned, “Which friend?”

How strange, his buddies all knew he wanted to pursue Shen Ci now, yet someone still dared to provoke him?

Shen Ci reluctantly dug through his memory, “Your girlfriend’s brother’s roommate’s—”

“Wait.” Wen Ran interrupted with a laugh, “Who told you that? I don’t have a girlfriend. Otherwise, would you think…”

Wen Ran’s voice came to an abrupt halt, and after a long pause, he raised an eyebrow to continue the second half of his sentence, “…otherwise, think carefully before you speak?”

Shen Ci really couldn’t remember, and since that receptionist had been fired anyway, he was too lazy to pursue it further.

“Oh whatever, little uncle, let’s hurry home.”

“Mm.”

Shen Ci pulled Lu Xiao’s hand to get in the car when Zhen Da quickly called out, “Male god, don’t leave! Leave your contact info! Come have a shot with me, I guarantee you’ll be completely captivated!”

“Don’t even think about it!” Shen Ci angrily turned to make faces while pushing Lu Xiao into the car forcefully. Zhen Da continued to chatter noisily outside.

Lu Xiao had brought a driver today, and after Shen Ci urged several times, the driver quickly started the car and drove out of the parking lot.

“Boss.” Zhen Da got into Wen Ran’s car and greeted listlessly.

Wen Ran’s smile was sarcastic, “Ha, now you know to greet your boss? You were quite wild just now. Do you even know who you were trying to seduce?”

Zhen Da replied, “Of course I know, he’s Lu Xiao. I totally worship him. If it weren’t for your collaboration with Yunxiao this time, and I saw a chance to become Yunxiao’s boss lady, I wouldn’t have come to this godforsaken place.”

Wen Ran rewarded him with an eye roll, “Can you tone down that northeastern accent?”

Zhen Da made a bitter face, “It disappears when I’m in front of my male god, but normally I can’t control it. Who told you to find me a northeastern person as my language teacher?”

Wen Ran: “…”

He waved his hand dismissively, “Anyway, I advise you not to get your hopes up. I can see that Lu Xiao is completely fixated on Shen Ci.”

Zhen Da snorted, “Aren’t you also a bootlicker? Shen Ci is totally fixated on my male god too!”

He immediately received a slap to the back of his head from Wen Ran, “How dare you talk to your boss like that? Did your head and ass get switched around?”

Zhen Da laughed carelessly, “Why are you getting worked up? Can’t handle the truth? Sigh, I really crave Lu Xiao’s body… if I could just sleep with him once, I’d die without regrets.”

“Shut up.” Wen Ran felt irritated as he pulled out a cigarette to light, blowing out several broken smoke rings.

He could tell that Shen Ci and Lu Xiao had deep feelings for each other, leaving no room for others to interfere.

But he was just frustrated, very frustrated.

Since childhood, what had the Wen family’s young master ever wanted that he couldn’t get? Yet he had stumbled twice over Shen Ci.

Back in university, Shen Ci had almost let him lure him to bed, but later pretended not to recognize him when they met.

Now, Shen Ci still pretended not to recognize him and even protectively held onto another man.

How was he inferior to Lu Xiao? He was also from a prestigious family, wealthy beyond measure, and with top-tier looks. Why wouldn’t Shen Ci spare him even a glance? Only focusing on clinging to Lu Xiao.

That midsummer night years ago, those fingers tracing circles in his palm had made his heart itch for years.

Now seeing Shen Ci again, he was once more tossing and turning restlessly, desperately trying to recapture that moment of heartache.

That was the first time he had really fallen for someone, and also the last.

Just thinking about it made his heart ache softly, and Wen Ran wished he could immediately grab Shen Ci, pin him down and force his submission, settling this obsession that had been itching in his heart.

“Hey.” Wen Ran roughly crushed the cigarette, though hidden sparks flickered in his eyes, “In two months, Min Shoubei is throwing a banquet for Shen Ci. Are you going?”

“To fulfill your ridiculous dream.”

Zhen Da’s eyes lit up immediately.

When Shen Ci and Lu Xiao returned to the Shen family home, it was nearly ten o’clock.

Shen Ci’s parents had just been preparing for bed when they saw the two arrive, so they happily returned to the living room. Shen Ci ushered them back to their room hurriedly.

“I just came to check on the puppies, you really don’t need to keep us company. Mom, you have your card game tomorrow, so sleep quickly.”

Mother Shen glanced at Lu Xiao sitting on the sofa, his legs crossed elegantly as he flipped through a book on the table casually.

“Then you two… keep the noise down later?” Mother Shen whispered to her younger son, afraid of hearing embarrassing sounds.

Shen Ci frowned, wondering what noise the puppies could make, thinking his mother must be confused from sleepiness. He could only mumble agreement while pushing her back to the bedroom.

The puppies had been placed by the butler on a bed in an empty servant’s room. Shen Ci pulled Lu Xiao over to see them happily.

Under the warm yellow light, the three chubby little milk puppies had just finished nursing and were snuggled together sleeping soundly. Shen Ci’s heart melted from cuteness.

“So heartwarming.” Shen Ci said softly, with a gentle smile playing at the corners of his mouth and eyes like stars.

Lu Xiao caught a glimpse and was immediately captivated by his smile, his Adam’s apple sliding uncontrollably.

“You’re back.” Shen Bie’s voice sounded behind them. He was wearing a bathrobe while drying his hair, his whole body carrying water vapor.

He crouched down next to Shen Ci, his still-damp fingers poking the little white puppy’s soft belly. Shen Ci quickly slapped his hand away.

“It’s sleeping!”

Shen Bie grinned mischievously, “This one, don’t you think it looks very familiar?”

Shen Ci was confused, “You’ve seen white milk puppies before?”

Little White was sleeping spread-eagle, having the worst sleeping posture of the three, looking foolish no matter how one looked at it.

Lu Xiao also smiled, reaching out to tease Little White’s ear, “Mm, very familiar.”

Little White whimpered uncomfortably, shook off the disturbing finger, clumsily flipped over to lie on its stomach with short legs sprawled over its sibling, then fell asleep again.

“Hahaha!” Shen Bie burst out laughing, “Now it looks even more alike!”

Shen Ci was completely baffled, “Which puppy are you two talking about? I have no memory of this.”

Seeing that his little brother still didn’t understand, Shen Bie laughingly ruffled his hair roughly, “Of course it’s you, this little puppy! The sleeping posture is so similar!”

“!!!”

Jumping up, Shen Ci began chasing his sharp-tongued big brother around the house, however Shen Bie had prepared for this and ran away in a flash.

Lu Xiao leaned against the wall, quietly watching the frolicking Shen Ci with tenderness in his heart, his lips curving in a gentle smile that created faint lines at the corners of his eyes.

Shen Bie was laughing so hard he could barely breathe, and when he couldn’t run anymore, he let his little brother throw pillows at him.

“Hey, hey, hey, stop hitting me. I was planning to grill meat as a midnight snack tonight—do you want it or not?” Shen Bie stood on the second floor, gripping the railing as he called down.

Shen Ci’s foot paused on the stairs, looking up hesitantly, “Really?”

Shen Bie’s smile was roguish, “I’d be a puppy if I lied.”

Shen Ci: “…”
