Chapter 63.4

Editor: Princess

Evening. The Shen Residence.

“Baby, you’re finally home! Come give Mommy a hug!”

The moment Shen Ci got out of Lu Xiao’s car, Mother Shen rushed over with open arms. Shen Ci spread his arms happily and hugged her back. “Mom.”

Lu Xiao stepped out of the car as well, dressed impeccably in a neatly pressed suit, carrying several gift bags.

Mother Shen looked at the bags in his hands and blinked in surprise. “Ah Xiao, what’s all this…?”

Lu Xiao’s gaze lingered on Shen Ci for a second before he answered, “I’m pursuing Xiao Ci. This is my first time officially visiting as his suitor, so of course, I had to bring gifts for Uncle and Auntie. Just a small token of respect.”

Mother Shen finally processed his words, and her expression became slightly complicated. Then she smiled meaningfully. “It should be us giving you gifts instead. Xiao Ci is such a handful, how did he manage to catch your eye?”

The Shen family had been shocked when they first saw the news this morning.

But after a whole day of processing it, they’d more or less calmed down.

After all, Shen Ci had always been clingy with Lu Xiao, so if they really had feelings for each other, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal.

“What do you mean I’m hard to handle?!” Shen Ci stomped his foot in protest. Mother Shen and Lu Xiao both chuckled.

“As long as he’s easy to spoil, that’s all that matters.”

Lu Xiao lowered his head and kissed the top of Shen Ci’s head. Immediately, Shen Ci went completely still, his face turning bright red.

Mother Shen couldn’t help covering her mouth and laughing.

Thinking about it, Lu Xiao had always doted on Shen Ci since they were kids, and Shen Ci had always stuck to Lu Xiao like glue. She was used to seeing them be affectionate.

Father Shen and Shen Bie had both come home early from work, and soon, Min Shoubei and Min Song arrived as well. The two families gathered around a large dining table, chatting and laughing over dinner.

At first, Shen Ci tried his best to lower his presence, rejecting any shrimp-peeling services and refusing to let anyone put food in his bowl.

But no matter what, he couldn’t escape being the center of attention.

The conversation constantly circled back to him.

“Remember when Xiao Ci was ten years old? He wet the bed and tried to hide the sheets. He was so embarrassed he cried his eyes out!”

“This child was adorable even back then. When he was in kindergarten, a little girl tried to kiss him, and he got so scared he ran straight home.”

“In middle school too—he had no idea a girl was flirting with him, and he actually went and reported it to the teacher! Hahaha!”

“…”

Shen Ci: “…”

What the hell?!

His entire childhood was getting exposed! He was being stripped bare!

With his cheeks puffed up in frustration, he lowered his head and focused on eating, refusing to engage with the betrayers at the table.

The conversation eventually shifted to Lu Xiao, and at that point, the atmosphere changed.

Father Shen and Min Shoubei started firing off sharp questions, while Shen Bie and Min Song casually threw in some subtle probing remarks. Even Mother Shen pretended to be uninterested but listened closely.

Meanwhile, Lu Xiao remained composed, answering each question calmly and gracefully.

Shen Ci, however, was dying inside.

Why does this feel exactly like a “meeting the parents” interrogation?!

“I’ve been thinking about hosting a formal banquet soon.” As the wine kept flowing, Min Shoubei suddenly set down his glass and said, “At the very least, I need to introduce Xiao Ci to my old friends. What do you all think?”
