Chapter 47.1

Editor: Jodi

“This place is dirt poor, yet the internet is good enough for a video call?!”

Wei Shuo shouted in shock.

Shen Ci quickly hushed him with a “shh” and answered the video call somewhat nervously.

The small circle in the center of the screen spun around, then soon an image appeared.

Lu Xiao was sitting in his office, the cold white fluorescent light making his handsome face even more defined and his deep-set eyes look more profound, however his expression was very gentle.

Causing the nervousness Shen Ci had felt just a moment ago to vanish the moment he saw him. He beamed immediately, “Little Uncle, did you miss me?”

Smiling faintly, Lu Xiao asked back, “Did Xiao Ci miss me?”

Wei Shuo’s mouth twitched, but he quickly recovered, making sure Shen Ci didn’t notice.

Even though he had grown up seeing Shen Ci and Uncle Lu so close, hearing such an intimate ambiguous exchange still made black lines appear on his face.

How could Shen Ci say something like that without realizing that something was off? Wei Shuo touched his chin thoughtfully.

It seems being overly close to Lu Xiao had long become a subconscious habit for Shen Ci……?

No wonder despite all the hints, Shen Ci never thought in that direction—he was completely clueless.

With Lu Xiao’s unreasonable pampering and Shen Ci’s developed dependency and trust, whether they did, or didn’t have the title of ‘boyfriends’ probably didn’t matter much to Lu Xiao…

Thinking about it this way, how young had Shen Ci been when Lu Xiao started to trap him in order to “brainwash” him into such a state?

This realization caused goosebumps to appear on Wei Shuo’s arm, and he silently saluted Lu Xiao in his mind.

The strategy was too profound, too ruthless… deserving of admiration.

Shen Ci, meanwhile, was entirely focused on Lu Xiao on the screen, endlessly complaining about trivial matters, with Lu Xiao listening patiently and responding occasionally.

Then hearing Shen Ci complain about the poor conditions, he frowned slightly, “The bed is uncomfortable?”

Shen Ci pouted, nodding, “If you hadn’t sent the family chefs over, I’d probably have starved to death on the streets.”

Lu Xiao tsked, “Sure enough, you really aren’t adapting.”

Shen Ci sighed dramatically, “Oh my god! If I had known this variety show would be so terrible, I would never have signed the contract and gotten tricked into coming!”

Lu Xiao’s frown deepened, “You don’t have to force yourself. Breaking the contract now is still an option.”

Shen Ci, startled, realized he had said the wrong thing again, “Ah?”

Idiot, why did you complain in front of Lu Xiao again?

Ever since Bai Ziwei disappeared for a long time, Shen Ci had forgotten that Lu Xiao was still the main villain in the book…

He quickly tried to remedy the situation, “Little Uncle, although the conditions are tough, I find it quite enjoyable.”

“Everyone is taking good care of me, and tomorrow, we’re going to decorate the guest house together. We’re all having a great time!”

His words were filled with a desire to survive, but of course, they were mainly for the program team.

Lu Xiao’s frown didn’t entirely relax, however he relented a little, “If you like it, then it’s up to you.”

Shen Ci nodded vigorously, then continued chatting about trivial matters, not noticing how much time had passed until he realized Lu Xiao was still in the office.

“Little Uncle, did my call interrupt your work?”

Lu Xiao glanced at something off-screen, then looked back at Shen Ci with a gentle tone, “No, I’ve finished my work.”

“Is that Xiao Ci?” A surprised female voice came from off-screen.

Shen Ci’s grip on his phone tightened, and he swallowed subconsciously.

The sound of high heels approached, and soon a woman stood behind Lu Xiao, giving Shen Ci a gentle smile, “Xiao Ci, good evening.”

It really was Sister Jiaxi.

Shen Ci looked away awkwardly, but still managed a professional smile, “Sister Jiaxi, good evening….”

Hai Jiaxi gave Lu Xiao a somewhat reproachful look, “You knew I wanted to talk to Xiao Ci, so why didn’t you call me when he called?”

Lu Xiao’s eyes never left Shen Ci, and his tone was a bit dismissive, “You can see him now, can’t you?”

Hai Jiaxi rolled her eyes at him from behind.

A perfect match, talented and beautiful, a perfect couple… These were the words that floated through Shen Ci’s mind as he saw the two of them together.

Biting his lip, unsure of what to say, he finally laughed it off, “Ah, my phone is running out of battery. Little Uncle, how about we talk later?”

Then he hung up hurriedly, only to feel a mix of regret and frustration.

He had been overly sensitive lately.

Hadn’t Sister Jiaxi and Lu Xiao been working together a lot recently? He should obviously be used to it by now, so why was he feeling this way?

“Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, Little Uncle is busy. We should head back.” Shen Ci urged Wei Shuo, trying to push his strange thoughts away.

Wei Shuo, who had been watching the whole time, sighed silently. This idiot didn’t realize he was jealous, right?

Lu Xiao didn’t have time to stop it before the screen went black.

His face darkened, his eyes growing cold.

“He hung up? Because of me?” Hai Jiaxi giggled.

Lu Xiao’s glance towards her turned icy, however she wasn’t fazed. She clicked her tongue, “Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves, but unfortunately, a certain little baby just doesn’t get it.”

“But—judging from his reaction earlier, you might still have a chance?”

“It’s best if you don’t use that look to scare me, I’m helping you. A delicate little flower like Xiao Ci just needs a bit of a stimulation.”

Then she flashed a playful smile, grabbed her bag, and turned to leave, “My sweetheart is waiting for me at home. You can enjoy your lonely, cold night! Bye~”

Lu Xiao was left alone in the vast office, surrounded by silence.

He quietly tapped the screen of his phone screen which lit up, then he made a call…
