Chapter 9.2
The evening breeze blew through the gaps of the high building, ruffling the soft hair of the young man.
He was very pale, with bright eyes, holding a small stuffed whale in his arms. His dazed expression contrasted with the rush of pedestrians around him, as if he was a fairy from a story who had stumbled into the mortal world. He had a hint of fireworks about him and he was so adorable that it was heart-stopping.
Fu Shen slowly exhaled and, with his back to him, bent over. “Come up.”
Tang Zhou laughed and climbed onto his back, wrapping his arms around his neck. He still held the stuffed whale tightly in his hands and when Fu Shen lifted him up, he pressed his face against the man’s neck, slightly squinting his eyes, half-asleep.
He looked thin, but he wasn’t light when picked up.
Fu Shen had to walk a few steps and shake Tang Zhou up a bit to get him to wake up and Tang Zhou happily rubbed the stuffed whale on his back.
“Do you really like the stuffed toy?” Fu Shen asked.
Tang Zhou, now fully awake, replied, “Yes.”
“Why do you like it?”
“I don’t know.”
“If you like it, we can buy a lot more.”
“No, we can’t.”
“Why not?”
“Because….” His light breathing drowned out the honking of car horns on the street, clearly falling into his ears.
The two hands on his chest suddenly relaxed but miraculously, the stuffed whale was still firmly grasped in his right hand, showing no signs of falling.
Fu Shen stopped and hailed a taxi.
He carefully placed Tang Zhou in the back seat and the whole process didn’t wake him up. Fu Shen let out a sigh of relief and quickly got in after him.
After giving the address, the car started.
The young man’s upper body was leaning against Fu Shen’s chest and Fu Shen’s right hand supported his cheek, resting it on his own leg. From this angle, it was clear to see the young man’s long and dense eyelashes, delicate nose and red lips.
Tang Zhou tonight completely overturned his previous image, and this strong impact and contrast made people want to know more about the personality hidden behind this proud and indifferent mask.
Finally, they arrived at Tang Zhou’s residence and just as Fu Shen was about to open the door, Tang Zhou woke up.
He opened his eyes in confusion, looked at the stuffed whale in his hand, quickly wriggled free from Fu Shen, and stuffed the whale into his embrace.
Fu Shen’s gaze slightly softened, “What’s wrong?”
Tang Zhou leaned in closer to him and whispered, “I can’t bring it home, it’ll be destroyed.”
“Why will it be destroyed?”
Tang Zhou looked down and said, “They won’t allow me play with it, they’ll destroy it.”
Fu Shen: “…..”
He suddenly felt as if his chest was being blocked by something.
“No, it’s mine, I gave it to you. They wouldn’t dare to ruin it.”
“Really?”
“I’m not lying to you.”
Tang Zhou still hesitated, his gaze on the stuffed whale, wanting to take it home but not daring to.
“Don’t be afraid.” Fu Shen placed the stuffed whale back in his hand, “I’ll stay with you.”
“Even if it breaks, I can give you another one.”
Tang Zhou was tempted by his ’sugar-coated bullets’ and held the stuffed whale protectively as he opened the door.
The house was quiet, and there was no one around.
Tang Zhou crept into the foyer, peeked around sneakily then quickly ran to his bedroom.
Fu Shen followed curiously and saw Tang Zhou open the wardrobe then frantically hid the stuffed whale in the deepest corner, covered by other clothes.
He pursed his lips and walked over to take it out and under Tang Zhou’s protesting gaze, he said seriously, “If you leave it alone in the wardrobe, it will be very lonely.”
Tang Zhou was at a loss and asked, “Then what do we do?”
Fu Shen placed the stuffed whale in the bedding and said, “Hide it here, at night you can still hug it to sleep.”
Tang Zhou’s eyes brightened then he kicked off his shoes, dove into the bed, hugged the stuffed whale, closed his eyes and declared to Fu Shen, ”I’m sleeping!” before becoming completely silent.
Fu Shen: “…..”
He didn’t know how Tang Zhou would react when he woke up in the morning to see the stuffed whale in his arms.
He hoped it wouldn’t scare him.
