Chapter 37.1

Editor: Jodi

After Pi Xiu’s figure disappeared, the ringtone of a cell phone broke the awkward atmosphere.

Fu Shen looked down at his phone, his eyebrows slightly raised, and said, “Senior sister is asking me for your contact information.”

Tang Zhou: ?

Fu Shen tapped on his phone a few times then added, “She said she hitched a ride with you yesterday and wants to return the favor, but forgot to ask for your contact details when she got out of the car.”

“No need.” Tang Zhou decisively refused.

He guessed the girl hadn’t forgotten to ask, but rather, because of the strange atmosphere in the car at that time, didn’t dare to speak, even being careful when leaving the car.

“Why not?” Fu Shen asked with a faint smile on his face.

Tang Zhou stared at him seriously, “She said she wants to give me a handmade doll.”

Fu Shen: “….” Then, there’s no need.

Tang Zhou’s dolls were all gifts from him, so he selfishly didn’t want Tang Zhou to accept dolls from others.

After refusing on behalf of Tang Zhou, he asked casually, “Why would Senior sister think of giving you a doll?”

It wasn’t common for people to think of Tang Zhou as someone who liked dolls.

Tang Zhou lowered his eyelashes, “There was a doll on her bag, and I asked about it.”

“What kind of doll?”

“A little rabbit.”

“Was it cute?”

“En.”

“Do you want it?”

Tang Zhou: “….No.”

His animal instincts made him avoid the risk at that moment.

Fu Shen smiled, “I’m going to the kitchen.”

Tang Zhou stopped him, finally voicing a question he had kept in his heart for a long time, “Why didn’t you tell me that the cat doll was made by you?”

If it hadn’t been because he had met Fu Shen’s Senior sister, he might have been kept in the dark forever.

A strange thought suddenly appeared in Fu Shen’s heart, and his gaze deepened.

“Did you come to Deep Blue yesterday because of this?”

He had never understood why Tang Zhou’s mood was off yesterday, and why he had suddenly come to Deep Blue.

But at that time he had been too pleasantly surprised, which was why he had overlooked Tang Zhou’s odd behavior.

But thinking about it now, was it because of the cat doll?

Tang Zhou frowned, confused, “What do you mean?”

“You found out from Senior that I made the cat doll, that’s why you came to Deep Blue to look for me, right?”

This sentence was correct, but something felt off.

Tang Zhou pursed his lips, “Is there a problem?”

Fu Shen looked at him for a long moment, then, with downcast eyes and a low voice, said, “No. I’m going to the kitchen first.”

It turns out, the so-called platonic relationship had an explanation. It was because he had been touched, that’s why Tang Zhou agreed to be with him; and also because he had been touched, that’s why Tang Zhou only wanted a platonic relationship.

Fu Shen felt a bitter sweetness in his heart. He didn’t want to question Tang Zhou, however he also couldn’t face him normally, which is why he chose to escape to the kitchen under the guise of cooking.

He had thought it too simply.

He was just a poor student from a small village, how could he be worthy of Tang Zhou’s love?

Fu Shen’s obviously evasive body language wasn’t lost on Tang Zhou.

However he wasn’t someone without a temper, and for the time being he couldn’t bring himself to swallow his temper to coax someone else. What’s more, he really didn’t understand what was wrong with Fu Shen.

Sitting on the living room sofa, the continuous sounds from the kitchen made him restless.

Tang Zhou’s thoughts flickered between Fu Shen’s sudden mood swings and the effort Fu Shen had to be putting into cooking so many dishes alone and his nails involuntarily pinched into his palm, leaving behind a series of indentations.

In the end, concern won, and just as he was about to stand up and go to the kitchen, a pained groan caught his attention and his heart tightening, he run towards the sound hurriedly.

Fu Shen was holding his left index finger under the tap, washing the red blood away with clear water, turning it into faint pink streams.

And he looked unfazed by the pain, his expression calm.

Frowning, Tang Zhou turned the water off, holding his wrist, “We have a first aid kit at home. I’ll bandage it for you.”

Fu Shen, silent, followed him to the living room and sat down, then watching him run around frantically in search of the first aid kit, the gloom in his heart disappeared gradually.

This side of Tang Zhou reminded him of the time during the basketball game.

—When because of him, Tang Zhou had gotten up directly after he had fallen down, forgetting himself.

It wasn’t much different from how he was now, scrambling around hurriedly to take the first aid kit.

The cut from the knife throbbed with a stinging pain, however Fu Shen felt that it was a good cut.

It was him who had been too apprehensive.

From yesterday till now, he had been feeling as if he was constantly on the edge of a cliff, and that if he wasn’t careful, he would fall down and break into pieces.

He was excited, yet anxious.

And just now when he learned that Tang Zhou had gone to Deep Blue because of the cat doll, his thoughts had gone off on a tangent for a second.

But no matter what, Tang Zhou’s concern for him wasn’t fake.

And that was enough.

Tang Zhou found the first aid kit then run over with a ‘da da da’ sound, squatting in front of Fu Shen. He dipped a cotton swab in antiseptic then holding Fu Shen’s finger gently, applied it softly.

“It hurts a lot, doesn’t it?” He asked, his eyes lowered.

His long lashes covered the worry at the bottom of his eyes, but Fu Shen could hear the self-reproach and guilt in his voice.

The cut on his hand wasn’t deep, just a superficial scratch, but the blood made it look more frightening than it was.

He looked at the tip of Tang Zhou’s delicate nose, “It doesn’t hurt.”

After Tang Zhou finished applying the medicine, he put a band-aid on the wound then looked up, his eyes red, “Stop cooking. Don’t even do it anymore.”

When he had been bandaging Fu Shen’s finger just now, he had looked at his hands carefully.

Compared to his handsome face, Fu Shen’s hands weren’t exactly beautiful, because although his fingers were long and slender, his palms were rough, and there were even faint and small scars on the back of his hands in certain places.

It was heart-wrenching to see.

Fu Shen felt a comforting warmth in his heart, a smile playing on his lips, “That won’t do, I want to cook for you.”

Tang Zhou glared at him, “You’re injured!”

“It’s a small injury, it doesn’t bother me.” The handsome young man leaned closer to Tang Zhou, “I’m sorry about just now.”

Tang Zhou: ?

“I shouldn’t have misunderstood you.”

Tang Zhou asked in confusion, “So what exactly did you misunderstand about me?”

Could it be that he thought he had something going on with that girl?

Fu Shen helped him pack up the first aid kit, blaming himself, “I thought you were just sympathizing with me…”

Tang Zhou’s hand froze, then he looked at him coolly, “What do you mean?”

“I was wrong.” Fu Shen didn’t waste words, realizing that explaining was less effective than admitting his mistake.

And Tang Zhou, no longer caring about tidying up, stood up expressionlessly, “Fu Shen, my sympathy isn’t that overflowing. I can clearly distinguish between sympathy and liking. What did I do to make you think I was just sympathizing with you?”

Fu Shen said, annoyed with himself: “It’s I who thought wrong.”

Tang Zhou reached out to pinch his face, angry, “What kind of brain circuit is that!”

“You’re too good.” Fu Shen allowed him pinch his face, sighing.

Too good that he felt unworthy of him.

What sort of merits did he have to earn Tang Shen’s love? And the deeper he fell, the more he felt the immense pressure of the disparity between them.

Fu Shen had never belittled himself. It was only when he was in front of Tang Zhou that he couldn’t help but doubt himself.

He was afraid that the project he was working on wouldn’t receive market recognition, afraid of letting Tang Zhou down.

Tang Zhou’s heart was sour.

Where was he good? It was Fu Shen who was good.
