Chapter 23.1

Fu Shen didn’t realize he had been exposed. As he cooked the noodles, the image of Tang Zhou just now kept popping up in his mind.

He had always thought of himself as someone not easily swayed by beauty. He’d never been smitten before and didn’t even entertain thoughts of romance.

Yet somehow, he had fallen into a vortex called “Tang Zhou”.

Tang Zhou was like candy to him; only by peeling away the hard, cold sugar coating could he taste the sweetness. Even if he hadn’t tasted it yet, through the thin layer, he could already smell the sweetness.

The boiling water in the pot snapped him back to his senses and Fu Shen quickly added an appropriate amount of noodles.

By the time he came out with the noodles, Tang Zhou was already seated at the table, waiting.

“Thank you.”

Fu Shen: “You’re welcome.”

Tang Zhou was a bit confused.

He remembered that in his dream, Fu Shen was always aloof during his time as an assistant and they never really interacted much. But now, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was different.

“In a few days, I might be moving out.”

Fu Shen blurted out, “Isn’t it that you haven’t graduated yet?”

Tang Zhou looked down, “It’s almost time anyway. I just have to defend my thesis and attend the graduation ceremony.”

Fu Shen pinched his fingertips and tried to maintain his calm as he sat opposite him, “Where are you moving to?”

“I haven’t decided yet.” Tang Zhou mumbled, biting off a piece of noodle, “You can call if anything comes up.”

Fu Shen’s eyes darkened, “Okay.”

Fu Shen usually slept well, but that night he tossed and turned, unable to sleep. He finally fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning, only to be jolted awake by vivid dreams.

He reached down and feeling a sense of exhaustion, slumped onto the bed and sighed.

The next day in class, he was visibly lackluster.

Liang Cheng, who was observant noticed his mood and asked, “Didn’t sleep well?”

Fu Shen nodded, not wanting to elaborate.

Pi Xiu teased from the side, “It can’t be that you really did something unmentionable with Tang Shen right?”

This was just a joke, and usually, Fu Shen would have laughed it off. But the thought of the dream he had last night, the memory of those slender, soft white legs in his dream made him feel guilty. He coughed lightly.

“The professor is here.”

Pi Xiu quickly straightened up, not noticing his friend’s strange behavior. However Liang Cheng noticed and shot Fu Shen several glances with a slightly furrowed brow.

Fu Shen was spaced out throughout the whole class and even when the professor called him to answer a question, he looked clueless. If it hadn’t been for Li Fengyu reminding him, he would have made a fool of himself.

In the end, he had just come of age so no matter how mature he was, when it came to matters of the heart, he was no different from any other young person.

After class, the four of them had just stepped out of the teaching building when they were stopped by a man.

The man who stopped them was middle-aged, dressed in an ordinary white shirt and black trousers. He didn’t stand out from the other professors at the school.

“Are you Fu Shen, Mr. Fu?” The man asked politely.

The other three looked hesitantly at the man while Fu Shen responded calmly, “No.”

“……”

Seeing him turn to leave, the man hurriedly said, “Please, can you come with me?”

Before Fu Shen could reply, Pi Xiu opened his mouth and mumbled, “Are you a cop? He should just go with you because you say so?”

Li Fengyu was also speechless, “Who is this guy?”

Fu Shen couldn’t be bothered. He had previously investigated Tang Zhou’s social connections and while he didn’t exactly know every single person Tang Zhou knew, he could at least recognize them.

He had an impression of this man and he knew who was looking for him.

The middle-aged man, feeling anxious and disregarding the many people around him, said, “It’s Mr. Tang Zhou’s mother who’s looking for you.”

The name Tang Zhou was rather famous in Jiang University.

So hearing this, some people turned to look.

Fu Shen didn’t have the hobby of being a spectacle, so he narrowed his eyes and said to Liang Cheng, “You guys go ahead to eat.”

Liang Cheng hesitated for a second, but nodded in the end.

After Fu Shen left with the man, Pi Xiu’s brows furrowed tightly, “Why would Tang Zhou’s mom want to see Shen Ge?”

“I don’t know. Let’s go eat first.” Liang Cheng had a vague idea in his mind, but it was too unrealistic.

Li Fengyu, the one with a larger imagination, speculated, “Could it be that she wants Tang Zhou to withdraw his investment?”

“Are you dumb? If she wanted Tang Zhou to withdraw his investment, she would have just gone to him. What use is there in finding Shen Ge?” Pi Xiu retorted.

“Maybe she can’t get through to Tang Zhou, so she’s going to threaten Shen Ge to give up?” Li Fengyu thought about it, “Isn’t this how it’s usually played out in TV dramas?”

Pi Xiu rolled his eyes, “That’s about Cinderella being asked to leave the son. What does that have to do with investments? Watch less dramas!”

Liang Cheng thought that sometimes art was based on reality, and that reality might be even more exaggerated.
