Chapter 54.1
Editor: Princess
After the doctor checked on Tang Zhou, he went back to sleep, completely unaware of how much the words he had said a moment ago had shaken the two of them.
“Mr. Fu, Mr. Tang’s fever has mostly gone down, so I’ll take my leave now.”
Nodding, Fu Shen saw the doctor out.
After the doctor left, Fu Shen received a message from Mi Shu: [The Tang Group intends to appoint Tang Tianyang as President. Five senior executives have simultaneously submitted their resignations.]
His gaze darkened. Standing silently by the bedside, he stared at Tang Zhou for a moment before a sudden ringtone broke the quiet.
It was Tang Zhou’s phone on the bedside table.
And seeing that Tang Zhou was starting to stir, Fu Shen reached out instinctively to silence the call but accidentally hit the answer button. A stern, elderly voice came through.
“Ah Zhou, you didn’t come home all night. Where were you?”
Fu Shen took the phone and walked out of the room. After closing the door behind him, he put the phone on the coffee table without saying a word.
On the other end, Tang Zhihua, not hearing a response, assumed Tang Zhou was sulking and unwilling to talk. His tone softened as he continued, “Ah Zhou, this was a decision made by the board. It’s not something I could control alone. You…”
Fu Shen cut him off abruptly: “Tang Zhou is resting.”
Tang Zhihua: “…”
Fu Shen ended the call without hesitation.
Such blatantly biased words were grating, to say the least. He had witnessed firsthand all the effort Tang Zhou had poured into the Tang family business, yet now it was being dismissed with a casual excuse?
When Tang Zhou had brought him that photo last night, he had found it absurd. A fake photo shouldn’t have been enough to push Tang Zhou out of the Tang Group unless Tang Zhihua had lost his mind.
As it turned out, Tang Zhihua wasn’t crazy, just blind.
He was about to return the phone when another call came in. It was Lu Ye.
This time, he didn’t answer. He let the phone ring out, waited a bit, and when Lu Ye called back two more times before giving up, he finally placed the phone back on the bedside table.
And by noon, seeing that Tang Zhou still showed no signs of waking, he decided to skip work for the afternoon as well.
**
Tang Zhou woke up to the sight of the golden sunset outside the window.
Fully awake now, he took in his surroundings, then remembered that he was still in this dream-like state. He even remembered the things he had said to Fu Shen when he woke up briefly earlier…
He was completely stunned.
It wasn’t until the hunger pangs in his stomach grew unbearable that he managed to collect himself and opened the door hesitantly.
—The first thing he saw was Fu Shen sitting at the table, working on his laptop.
The man was strikingly handsome, with sharp, defined features and an air of authority born from years at the top, mixed with a cold detachment that came from weathering life’s storms.
It was a stark contrast to the gentle, indulgent Fu Shen he knew in real life.
Hearing the door open, the man glanced up, his gaze calm and indifferent. And standing up, he said, “I’ll make dinner.”
Tang Zhou blinked. “Thanks.”
Fu Shen paused for a moment before disappearing into the kitchen silently.
Tang Zhou freshened up, picked up his phone, and noticed the missed calls from Lu Ye and messages from a few trusted associates.
He replied to the messages first, then called Lu Ye back.
“What’s going on? Why weren’t you answering? I heard Tang Tianyang replaced you. What’s the deal?” Lu Ye fired off questions like a machine gun before Tang Zhou could even speak.
Tang Zhou chuckled. “I’m thinking of going solo.”
Lu Ye: “…Are you sure you can let go?”
The Tang family wouldn’t have survived the crisis without Tang Zhou’s efforts, yet now, the old man and that board of old fogeys were burning bridges after crossing them, while Tang Tianyang claimed the credit shamelessly. Could Tang Zhou really let this go?
Tang Zhou was, in fact, at peace with this.
The Tang Group could collapse once, and it could collapse again. With Tang Tianyang and those aging executives in charge, its future didn’t look promising at all.
His trusted associates were willing to follow him because they shared the same vision.
Because once he left, there wouldn’t even be room for them to perform in the Tang Group, so leaving early was the better choice.
Whether they chose to keep working with Tang Zhou or find new opportunities, it was still better than staying on the sinking ship that was the Tang Group.
“There’s nothing I can’t let go of.” Tang Zhou said gently. “Lu Ye, if you have time, bring Qiao Yuan along, and let’s have dinner together.”
Lu Ye went silent for a moment. “Xiao Yuan….. he still doesn’t want to see me.”
The battle between Deep Blue and the Sheng Group had ended with the Sheng Group’s defeat. And even though Qiao Cheng’an was the true culprit behind everything, the Sheng Group couldn’t help but harbor resentment toward Fu Shen.
And because of Qiao Yuan, Lu Ye naturally didn’t have a good impression of Fu Shen.
Qiao Yuan was naturally soft-hearted. He didn’t hate Fu Shen, however he also couldn’t bring himself to get along with him peacefully.
What’s more after Tang Zhou was forced to work as Fu Shen’s assistant, his resentment toward him only deepened.
But even so, it wasn’t enough to cause such a drastic change in Qiao Yuan’s personality.
Losing the family business could be recovered from, but when love was shattered by harsh reality, Qiao Yuan chose to run away.
After the Sheng Group fell, Qiao Yuan and Lu Ye’s relationship was discovered by the Lu family. At the time, Lu Ye hadn’t yet secured his position in the family, and under their pressure, he resolutely decided to give up his status as heir to be with Qiao Yuan.
But under the Lu family’s persuasion, Qiao Yuan couldn’t bear to let Lu Ye sacrifice his career, so he deliberately broke up with him and went abroad.
Thinking about all this, Tang Zhou couldn’t help but sigh. This was straight out of an old-school melodramatic romance!
“So, President Lu, who’s calling the shots in the Lu family now?” Tang Zhou teased.
Lu Ye: “…..”
“Since no one’s controlling you anymore, who can tell you who you can or can’t date?” Tang Zhou cut straight to the point.
Lu Ye hesitated. “But Xiao Yuan won’t talk to me.”
“Then take your time and pursue him.” Tang Zhou teased. “Don’t tell me the great President Lu doesn’t even know how to woo someone.”
After everything that had happened, Qiao Yuan had become sensitive and cautious, and although he still liked Lu Ye, he felt guilty and wasn’t sure if Lu Ye still liked him. With the gap in their status now, he could only act indifferent toward Lu Ye.
Tang Zhou couldn’t help but sigh inside.
“Alright, I’ll try.” Lu Ye agreed, then asked hurriedly, “Are you really okay?”
“I’m fine.”
“Where are you now?” Lu Ye asked with concern. “I know you’re definitely not staying at the old house anymore. I’ve got plenty of places, just take your pick.”
“Thanks.” Tang Zhou said as the aroma from the kitchen wafted over, making his eyes curve with delight. “But I’ve got a place to stay.”
“Where?”
“Fu Shen’s place.”
“…”
After a long pause, Lu Ye finally asked, completely baffled, “I saw that photo today. What’s really going on between you two…”
Tang Zhou: “I’m working with him.”
Lu Ye: “…”
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”
