Chapter 53.2

The next morning, Fu Shen woke up and went through his usual mechanical routine of washing up, planning to whip up a quick breakfast. However as he passed the guest room door, he suddenly remembered—Tang Zhou had slept in there last night!

He froze in place for a long moment before confirming it wasn’t a dream.

Fu Shen tiptoed to the kitchen and made two servings of breakfast according to Tang Zhou’s preferences, but there was no movement from the guest room.

He glanced at the entryway—Tang Zhou’s shoes were still there, so he hadn’t left.

After waiting another ten minutes, Fu Shen started to feel something was off.

Tang Zhou was always punctual and disciplined. And as his assistant, he’d never been late or left early, so sleeping in this late was unusual.

He walked to the door and knocked three times.

There was no response.

He knocked three more times.

There was still no reaction.

He reached out decisively and turned the doorknob.

The curtains in the room blocked out the light, and only a faint glow from the living room seeped in, leaving the room dim.

He walked to the bedside quickly. The person on the bed was in a deep sleep, completely unresponsive to the outside world.

Fu Shen turned on the light and immediately noticed the flush on Tang Zhou’s face.

He reached out to feel—so hot!

He called the doctor immediately, then fetched a wet towel and placed it on Tang Zhou’s forehead.

Tang Zhou’s breathing was heavy. It was as if he were trapped in a sweltering cage he couldn’t escape. When a hint of coolness touched his forehead, he wanted to reach out, but his body wouldn’t cooperate—his arms wouldn’t lift.

He didn’t know how much time had passed before he felt a sharp pain on the back of his hand and faintly heard voices around him. Frowning, he tried to open his eyes, but they just wouldn’t budge.

Fu Shen carefully listened to the doctor’s instructions, his gaze fixed on the person lying in bed. He felt deeply guilty.

He should’ve gone home earlier last night. If he had, Tang Zhou wouldn’t have waited outside for so long.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

It was the driver calling, probably having gotten impatient from waiting outside.

“I won’t be going to the office this morning.” Fu Shen paused, “I’ll let you know about the afternoon later.”

The driver: He took someone home last night and was now skipping work today—this speed was too fast.

After hanging up, Fu Shen called his secretary to inform them he wouldn’t be in that morning.

There were no secrets in the company.

So within an hour, news of Fu Shen, the workaholic, skipping work in the morning spread throughout the company.

The moment Pi Xia heard the news, he was instantly shocked and sent a frantic message in the group chat: “What the hell, what the hell, what the hell! @Fu Shen, Shen Ge, are you okay?!”

Li Fengyu: “What’s wrong? What happened to Shen Ge?”

Liang Chen: “Shen Ge didn’t come to work today.”

Li Fengyu: “So? Shen Ge skipping work isn’t that unusual… Wait, no! It’s super unusual! Damn, Shen Ge, are you okay?!”

Liang Chen: “@Pi Xiu, you’re this shocked—do you know why?”

Pi Xiu: “QAQ It can’t really be because of me, right?!”

Li Fengyu: “Stop rambling and spit it out!”

Liang Chen: “Figure out the problem first, then feel guilty.”

Pi Xiu, sobbing: “President Tang asked me last night if Shen Ge was at the office. I didn’t think much and said he was. What if President Tang went to pick a fight and now Shen Ge’s at home recovering?! Shen Ge, I’m so sorry!”

Li Fengyu: “…”

Liang Chen: “…”

Fu Shen: “You should consider a career change.”

Pi Xiu: “Sob, Shen Ge, what do you mean? Are you okay?”

Liang Chen: “Shen Ge thinks it’s a shame you’re not a screenwriter. @Fu Shen, why didn’t you show up for work all of a sudden?”

Fu Shen: “I’m fine.”

He didn’t say another word after that.

The three of them didn’t ask any more questions.

Deep Blue’s operations were already pretty solid, so Fu Shen skipping a day of work wasn’t an issue at all.

Besides, Fu Shen had been completely focused on work for years, practically working non-stop year-round, so a sudden change wasn’t necessarily a bad thing.

**

When Tang Zhou’s eyes opened, he saw someone sitting by the bed. That handsome, striking face—he couldn’t even count how many times he’d kissed it.

His body felt heavy and hot, and his brain wasn’t quite catching up, so half-opening his eyes, he whined softly, “Fu Shen, I feel awful…”

Fu Shen had been sitting by the bed reading when he suddenly heard Tang Zhou’s soft, raspy voice. His heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively looked up. The usually proud and aloof man now had a flushed face and watery eyes, looking at him like he was the person he trusted the most in the world.

Fu Shen pushed down the odd feeling in his chest and said in a calm but subtly gentle tone, “You have a fever. The doctor’s giving you an IV.”

Tang Zhou let out an “oh” obediently then said, “I’m really thirsty.”

Fu Shen immediately got up to pour some water.

Tang Zhou, his mind fogged up from the fever, still grounded in reality, didn’t notice the unfamiliar furniture arrangement. He just stared blankly at the doorway where Fu Shen had disappeared, feeling deeply aggrieved.

Why was he suddenly being so cold? Before, even if he felt just a little unwell, Fu Shen would hug him, kiss him, and comfort him. But today, there wasn’t even the faintest trace of emotion on his face.

Fu Shen came back with a glass of water, thoughtfully adding a straw. But when he looked up and saw Tang Zhou’s pitiful, innocent expression, he didn’t even know what was going on before a wave of guilt hit him, like he’d done something wrong.

Keeping a neutral face, he held the straw up to Tang Zhou’s dry lips.

Tang Zhou took a few sips and let go. His parched throat felt much better after the water, and then he asked, “Do you not like me anymore?”

Fu Shen: ???

Not like him? Where was this accusation coming from?

And seeing that Fu Shen didn’t reply, Tang “Three-Year-Old” Zhou, whose brain was clearly overheating, felt his nose sting, his eyes turning red as he said, “You really hate me?”

Fu Shen pressed his lips together. Where was this coming from?

Tang “Three-Year-Old”, overwhelmed, suddenly had tears welling up in his eyes. He glared at Fu Shen and said, “If you want to break up, just say it.”

Fu Shen: “…”

The doctor, who’d only come to check on the patient: Holy crap, what a bombshell!

Fu Shen and Tang Zhou were both famous in Jiang City, so of course, the doctor recognized them.

Seeing Tang Zhou at Fu Shen’s house had already surprised him, but finding out they were that kind of relationship? He was completely floored!

However in the next second, he heard Fu “Suspected Scumbag” Shen spit a single line out coldly:

“President Tang, you’re talking nonsense from the fever.”
