Chapter 49.2

On their way back down the mountain, they occasionally ran into villagers. And the locals, who rarely saw such a handsome young man, chatted with Tang Zhou endlessly.
They either praised Fu Shen’s academic achievements or lamented the hardships he had endured over the years.
Fu Shen felt helpless, however Tang Zhou listened carefully.
These people were witnesses to Fu Shen’s past, and through their words, he could sketch an image of the young Fu Shen, struggling but determined.
By the time they returned home, it was nearly noon. They worked together to put up the spring couplets, then began preparing for New Year’s Eve dinner.
However since it was just the two of them, there was no need to make too much food. Dumplings and a few dishes would be enough.
Tang Zhou wanted to learn how to make dumplings from Fu Shen, but Fu Shen told him, “Your hands will get cold if you make dumplings.”
“But you said yesterday that we’d do it together.”
Fu Shen smiled, “I’ll make them, and you watch. That’s still together.”
Tang Zhou: “……” Alright, fine.
In past years, Fu Shen would just make something simple to eat, but this year he put in extra effort. And even though it was tiring, his heart was still filled with happiness.
He had even forgotten the hatred he had when he left Longtan Village.
Qiao Chengan, that person, hadn’t crossed his mind in a long time.
Tang Zhou looked at the beautiful dumplings Fu Shen had made and asked, “Is there a cinema in the county?”
“You want to see a movie?”
“En, Lu Ye said the movie’s releasing on New Year’s Day. Should we go together?”
Fu Shen suddenly looked up, his deep eyes soft with tenderness. “Baby, let’s go back to Jiang City tomorrow.”
“What’s wrong?”
Fu Shen said, “I want to go back. Besides, the cinemas in Jiang City have better equipment.”
He didn’t want Tang Zhou staying here with him, freezing. His sweet porridge belonged in a big, warm house, not in this cold, remote little village.
Tang Zhou nodded, “Okay.”

As night fell, the village was full of the New Year spirit. Every household was bustling, with people chatting, playing cards, and watching TV after dinner while kids ran around with sparklers, laughing and playing.
And standing in the courtyard, Tang Zhou watched the scenes in the distance, then thought about how he used to spend his New Years—it felt like a waste.
“Do you want to watch fireworks?” Fu Shen walked up behind him and wrapped his arms around him.
Tang Zhou turned his head, “Can we set them off?”
“En. I’ll go get them.”
The fireworks were big and heavy, so Fu Shen set them outside the courtyard, lit the fuse, then came back and took Tang Zhou’s hand.
“Whoosh—Boom—”
The first firework exploded in the vast night sky, its brilliant colors and grandeur making Tang Zhou’s eyes widen a little.
The ground beneath their feet trembled with the loud bangs, and his heart shook with it.
He looked up, not missing a single firework as they lit up the sky, his eyes sparkling as he said sincerely, “They’re beautiful.”
He was looking at the fireworks, while Fu Shen was looking at him.
Yes, really very beautiful.
“It’s cold outside, let’s go back in.” Fu Shen said softly.
Tang Zhou followed his steps obediently, unusually quiet.
And the moment they stepped inside, he heard the door creak shut. Then before he could say a word, Fu Shen suddenly hugged him from behind, kissing his cheek and earlobe.
The cold face, just touched by the winter wind, quickly felt the warmth of his kisses, and in an instant, it burned.
Tang Zhou turned around on his own, meeting Fu Shen’s lips in a kiss.
And as things got heated, Fu Shen picked him up, carrying him from the main room to the inner room, all the way to the kang bed.
Fu Shen only kissed him, his hands obediently staying at the back of Tang Zhou’s neck, but this time the kiss was long and deep, as if he was pouring all of his love out at once.
By the end, Tang Zhou’s lips and tongue were numb, and he could only follow Fu Shen’s lead passively, occasionally letting out a few soft whimpers.
“Stop kissing me, if you keep going, my lips will be swollen tomorrow.” Tang Zhou’s eyes were misty as he mumbled.
Chuckling, Fu Shen kissed him lightly a few more times, “It’s fine, wearing a mask in winter is normal.”
Tang Zhou: “…..”
Fu Shen didn’t want to tease him anymore, so he got up and said, “I’ll go get some hot water for you to wash up.”
“Okay.”
After washing up, the two of them snuggled into bed, holding each other close.
Tang Zhou wasn’t cold at all, only feeling a sense of peace.
The village outside was quiet and calm, with the occasional bark of a dog adding a bit of lively energy.
“Fu Shen, I heard from Qiao Yuan that Auntie Sheng has gathered quite a bit of dirt on Qiao Chengan. Maybe after the New Year, she’ll use legal means and the board of directors to kick him out.”
Fu Shen, breathing in the light fragrance of Tang Zhou’s hair, said nonchalantly, “That’s good.”
“What do you plan to do next?”
Fu Shen thought for a moment. “After the New Year, I’ll continue to push through the project. I want to finish it by April if possible and secure the distribution license.”
Tang Zhou couldn’t help but ask, “And what about Qiao Chengan?”
“What about him?”
Tang Zhou blinked but didn’t say anything.
Fu Shen didn’t tease him anymore and said seriously, “Baby, before I met you, I did have those kinds of thoughts. I even imagined that if I could one day bring him down, I’d drag him here and make him kneel at my mother and grandfather’s graves to repent.”
Tang Zhou’s fingers trembled slightly, “And now?”
“Now I’ve figured it out.” He kissed the tip of Tang Zhou’s nose, “He’s not worth it.”
His mother and grandfather wouldn’t want to see that scumbag again.
As for him, why should he waste his time on someone irrelevant now that he had the most wonderful person in the world by his side?
The hatred he once harbored had only been a driving force, pushing him to work hard and strive for success.
But now, he had something far more valuable to fight for.
And that was love.
